Bhagwant Mann Government’s Free Power Scheme Brings Financial Relief to Punjab Households

Under the initiative, 600 units of electricity are being provided free of cost to households, offering significant monthly savings to families across the state. The move has brought direct relief to low- and middle-income groups, helping them manage rising household expenses more effectively.

Punjab government has stated that the policy reflects its core governance

The Punjab government has stated that the policy reflects its core governance approach—utilising public funds for the direct benefit of the public. By ensuring affordable access to essential services like electricity, the government aims to improve living standards and provide economic stability to ordinary citizens.

Officials say the free power scheme has also reduced dependence on informal borrowing for paying utility bills, particularly among economically weaker sections. The savings generated through this initiative are being redirected by families towards education, healthcare, and daily necessities.

The Mann government maintains that such welfare-driven measures are part of a broader effort to build a people-centric governance model in Punjab, where public resources are transparently invested to ease the everyday challenges faced by citizens.

The Punjab government has emphasized that the scheme is financially sustainable and supported by improved revenue management and reduced leakages in the power sector. Officials say better governance and efficient distribution have enabled the state to extend benefits without compromising on infrastructure or supply quality.

In rural areas, the initiative has brought relief to families dependent on seasonal incomes, ensuring uninterrupted access to electricity for domestic use. The government believes that reliable and affordable power at the household level contributes to overall social well-being and economic resilience.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday addressed a special press conference in Lucknow to share his views on the Union Budget 2026–27, calling it a visionary roadmap for India’s future with a strong and direct impact on Uttar Pradesh.

CM Yogi Adityanath Highlights Impact of Union Budget 2026

Welcoming the media, the Chief Minister said the press conference was focused on the Union Budget, the country’s economic direction, and how its provisions would benefit Uttar Pradesh. He expressed heartfelt appreciation for the Prime Minister and the Union Finance Minister, stating that the budget reflects the clear intent and long-term vision of the central leadership.

Uttar Pradesh and National Growth

CM Yogi noted that over the last 11 years, policies implemented under the guidance of the Prime Minister have delivered results at the grassroots level. He pointed out that nearly 25 crore people have been lifted above the poverty line, a transformation he attributed to the “nation first” approach and decisive governance. He added that India is steadily moving towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, driven by the right intent, reforms, and disciplined policymaking.

A key feature of the Union Budget 2026, according to the Chief Minister, is its emphasis on duties along with rights. He said that the Prime Minister’s focus on fundamental duties—also highlighted through the observance of Constitution Day on November 26—has found reflection in this budget. For the first time, the role and responsibility of every citizen towards nation-building has been clearly underlined in the budget framework.

CM Yogi further said that the budget strongly focuses on the future of the nation, especially the development of youth, the poor, women, and farmers. He stated that these four sections were kept at the center while framing the budget, ensuring inclusive and balanced growth across the country. He added that further details related to youth and national development would be discussed in Parliament.

Highlighting economic priorities, the Chief Minister said the budget lays strong emphasis on reforms, growth, and fiscal discipline, which are essential for building a strong future generation. He described the budget as one that encourages responsible citizenship while strengthening economic foundations.

On Uttar Pradesh’s gains, CM Yogi highlighted the ₹10,000 crore allocation for MSMEs, stating that Uttar Pradesh is well-positioned to benefit from this support. He cited the success of the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, noting that branding, design support, and market access have led to increased exports from the state. The new funding, he said, will further connect MSMEs with technology, research, and innovation, bringing direct economic benefits to Uttar Pradesh.

The Chief Minister also welcomed the ₹12.20 lakh crore allocation for infrastructure development, calling it a major boost for growth and employment. He said infrastructure expansion plays a crucial role in strengthening logistics, industry, and connectivity.

In the railway sector, CM Yogi said the announcement of seven new railway corridors, with two allocated to Uttar Pradesh, will significantly improve the state’s logistics network and ease of movement for goods and passengers.

He also highlighted the focus on inland waterways, stating that 20 waterways have been identified, with Uttar Pradesh playing a leading role in India’s inland water transport. Rivers such as the Rapti and Gomti, he said, hold strong potential for water-based transport and cargo movement. Encouraging cargo movement through waterways will reduce logistics costs and boost trade within the state.

Concluding his address, CM Yogi Adityanath said the Union Budget 2026–27 lays a strong foundation for sustainable growth, responsible citizenship, and inclusive development, while offering Uttar Pradesh significant opportunities in infrastructure, MSMEs, logistics, and trade.

Rahul Gandhi: ‘What Does it Contain….’ Speaker Objects to Reading From Unpublished Work of Naravane, Uproar Erupts in Lok Sabha

Rahul Gandhi
Google

The Lok Sabha experienced severe disturbances and political clashes throughout the Budget Session after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi used information from an unpublished work about General Manoj Naravane which he attributed to the former Army Chief.

What Triggered the Controversy?

During his speech at the President’s Address debate Rahul Gandhi discussed both national security issues and India’s border security problems. He presented parts of General Naravane’s memoir which he claimed to have found during his speech. The reference to the book created doubt because its content has not reached formal publication status which raised questions about its validity and actual value.

Government Raises Objections

Government representatives from the treasury benches expressed strong opposition because they believed Parliament should not accept unpublished works as valid sources. They challenged the trustworthiness of the materials while pointing out that their acceptance would create dangerous standards for future reference.

Speaker’s Intervention

As the uproar grew louder, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla intervened to restore order. He reminded members that Parliamentary rules do not permit quoting from unpublished or unverifiable sources. The Speaker instructed Rahul Gandhi to refrain from using those references and to focus on the approved discussion topic.

Uproar in the House

The disagreement soon escalated into a full-scale uproar, forcing interruptions in the session. Members from both sides exchanged accusations, highlighting the deep political divide over issues of national security, freedom of speech, and parliamentary discipline.

Rahul Gandhi’s Response

Rahul Gandhi defended himself by saying the content was already in circulation through other formats and was relevant to the national interest. The ruling benches rejected his explanation because the House continued to be filled with disruptions which included both slogans and counter-arguments.

Anurag Dhanda: Haryana Employment Crisis: Over 4.25 Lakh Government Vacancies Leave Youth Waiting for Jobs

Anurag-Dhanda
Google

Haryana is grappling with a serious employment challenge as lakhs of government posts remain vacant, raising concerns over the state’s recruitment system and youth unemployment. Despite repeated assurances of job creation, the ground reality reflects persistent delays and administrative inefficiencies.

Anurag Dhanda: Haryana Employment Crisis

According to data available on the National Career Service (NCS) portal, around 4.25 lakh government vacancies were pending in Haryana as of July 10, 2025. The figures underline the scale of the problem and highlight the urgent need for streamlined recruitment and timely examinations.

Over 4.25 Lakh Government Vacancies Leave Youth Waiting for Jobs

Young aspirants across the state have been waiting for years as recruitment processes move at a slow pace. Several examinations have faced delays, rescheduling, or lack of clarity, further adding to frustration among unemployed youth. Many candidates allege that the absence of a fixed recruitment calendar has created uncertainty and eroded trust in the system.

The issue has broader social and economic implications. With limited private sector opportunities, government jobs remain a key source of stable employment for Haryana’s youth, particularly those from rural and middle-class backgrounds. Prolonged vacancies not only affect livelihoods but also weaken essential public services that depend on adequate staffing.

Experts and youth groups argue that addressing unemployment requires more than announcements. Filling vacant posts, ensuring transparent and time-bound recruitment, and restoring confidence in examination processes are being seen as immediate priorities for the state.

As Haryana projects itself as a growing and aspirational state, the employment crisis poses a critical test. Without concrete action to resolve long-pending vacancies, the promise of development risks falling short of expectations, especially for a generation waiting for fair and timely job opportunities.

He reiterated that the service and safety of the people of Uttar Pradesh remain the government’s top priority and that negligence in addressing public issues will not be tolerated.

Issues Directions for Swift Redressal

During the interaction, matters related to revenue, policing, housing, health, education, and social welfare were prominently discussed. The Chief Minister asked officials to closely monitor each case and ensure that genuine beneficiaries receive timely relief.

The Janata Darshan initiative is being viewed as a strong instrument of good governance and direct public outreach, providing citizens an opportunity to directly convey their concerns to the Chief Minister. Yogi Adityanath reaffirmed that his government is firmly committed to the welfare, security, and dignity of the state’s 25 crore people, working continuously with a people-centric approach.

Officials present during the Janata Darshan were instructed to coordinate closely with district administrations and submit regular progress reports on the complaints received. Special attention was given to issues concerning women, senior citizens, farmers, and economically weaker sections. Yogi Adityanath underlined that public trust in the administration depends on transparency, responsiveness, and ground-level action, and urged officers to treat every grievance with empathy and seriousness.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of leveraging technology to track grievance disposal and ensure follow-ups until final resolution. He said such interactions strengthen the bridge between the government and citizens, making governance more inclusive and responsive.

Through regular Janata Darshan programmes, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to institutionalize direct communication with the public, reinforcing its commitment to good governance, law and order, and welfare-driven administration.

Gold and Silver Prices: Freefall Continues, Sahi Time to Buy ? Check Expert Opinion

Gold and Silver Prices
Google

Gold and silver prices have sharply corrected in India after hitting record highs, worrying many investors. Heavy profit booking, a strong US dollar, and higher trading margins on exchanges triggered the fall.

As of February 2, 2026, MCX gold is trading between ₹1.47–1.65 lakh per 10 grams, while silver has dropped to ₹2.65–3.12 lakh per kg. Globally, spot gold is at $4,645 per ounce, down over 2%, and silver trades near $78 per ounce, down 0.5%.

Reasons Behind the Sharp Fall

The correction follows an extremely fast rally. Gold had reached $5,626 per ounce and silver $121 per ounce in recent weeks. Such rapid gains led to profit-taking by traders and investors.

Additional triggers include:

  • CME margin hikes: Gold margin up to 8%, silver 15%
  • Stronger US dollar, putting pressure on commodity prices
  • Post-Budget 2026 selling, which amplified the fall in India

Silver was the most volatile, dropping as much as 33% in two sessions and even hitting lower circuits on exchanges. Despite the dip, January gains remain strong, with gold up nearly 20% and silver up 30% for the month.

Expert Opinions for Indian Investors

Analysts say this is a healthy market correction, not a reversal. Experts from JM Financial and Enrich Money recommend staggered buying on dips rather than investing all at once.

Medium-term targets:

  • Gold: $6,000–$8,000 per ounce
  • Silver: Caution advised due to high volatility

Support levels to watch on MCX:

  • Gold: around ₹1.44 lakh per 10 grams
  • Silver: around ₹2.65 lakh per kg

Should You Buy Now?

For long-term investors, phased buying of gold is still recommended, as it remains a reliable hedge against inflation and geopolitical uncertainty. Silver is riskier in the short term due to sharp swings. Conservative or short-term investors should wait for prices to stabilise.

Balochistan News: Violent clashes in Pakistan’s Balochistan province have escalated over the past weekend, leaving over 190 people dead and hundreds more affected. Pakistani forces reportedly killed 145 militants amid coordinated attacks claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), highlighting the region’s ongoing separatist unrest.

Militant Attacks Across 14 Cities

Balochistan News: The BLA targeted banks, jails, police stations, and military installations in cities including Gwadar, Quetta, and Panjgur. The group claimed responsibility for sophisticated operations, underscoring grievances tied to resource exploitation and alleged human rights abuses. Analysts say this marks one of the deadliest phases of the Baloch insurgency, demonstrating an evolution in tactics with significant threats to civilian and strategic infrastructure.

Pakistan’s Response

Pakistani security forces launched extensive counter-operations, killing 92 militants while losing 15 soldiers in the clashes. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi accused India of backing the violence, framing the unrest as foreign-supported terrorism. Pakistani authorities continue to hunt remaining militants and bolster security across the province, with military operations focused on urban and border regions.

India’s Reaction

India’s Ministry of External Affairs dismissed Pakistan’s allegations as “baseless” and “frivolous.” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal urged Islamabad to focus on resolving long-standing Baloch grievances instead of attributing internal unrest to foreign powers. India pointed to Pakistan’s heavy-handed policies in Balochistan as a root cause of local alienation, warning that blaming external actors deflects attention from domestic challenges.

Broader Context

The Baloch insurgency has intensified since early 2025, with attacks increasingly targeting infrastructure projects such as those linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Analysts highlight the clashes as evidence of persistent security gaps and the need for political solutions alongside military measures.
