India needs a proper structure to create top Tennis players

Indian Tennis star Sumit Nagal who has been awarded a wild card for next week’s Australian Open has targetted the Indian Badminton Federation and said that the country needs a proper structure to create top tennis players.

“We have a long way to go. We need a structure, first. I think you must have heard a lot of people say that we don’t have a structure in India right now where we can create players who can perform at a high level,” said Nagal when asked about when India would produce players who could break into the world’s top 10 in singles, in a virtual interaction with the media.

Nagal is confident of making into the top 10 of the Australian Open, starting February 8.

“I was talking about this with my coach last [Monday] night and I have a feeling that I will play a top-10 player. It’s my gut feeling. Let’s see what happens,” he said.

Sumit Nagal faced Dominic Thiem, the world No.3 from Austrian and Swiss star Roger Federer in his last two outings at the US Open.

Archer: Body management is important ahead of upcoming Test calender

England pacer Jofra Archer has retreated his focus on fitness and said that it will be a long year for the English cricket team and managing the body alignment is important.

“I looked at the schedule today and realised that it is going to be a very long year. Few series coming up. Body management will be essential if you are going to play everything or most of everything. Managing the body will be important if you have to play a lot,” said Archer while speaking to the media on Tuesday.

In this calendar year, England will play 17 Test matches besides the T20 World Cup. Archer also included IPL 2021 in his schedule for the year.

“Anyone who has criticised it never spent a week let alone months in the bubble. We have been here for almost a year now. At the end of the day, human beings are social people. Sometimes it becomes hard because if you are not having a great game or if you are not feeling good with your cricket, there is no escape. I think ECB has done great, given people like myself time. I have had six weeks away. I think Jos (Buttler) will have some time after the first Test. So they are making a priority that everyone gets time away and come back refreshed and ready to go,” added Archer.

“I don’t mind the bubble because I know I will get my time away. If it gets too overbearing, there is no shame in saying that. Right now, I am good to go at least till July. I have been training in my time off, playing cricket,” he said.

The 25-year-old said that his IPL experience won’t matter a lot to him when it comes to representing the national team in the Test format.

The meeting has specifically been called to discuss the recent developments that took place following the Republic Day violence. The meeting will be conducted at Punjab Bhawan at 11 am.

The chief minister had called for the meeting on Sunday, urging all the leaders of the different political outfits to keep their distances aside and come under the same umbrella to find a solution for Punjab farmers who are allegedly being harassed by Delhi police.

Singh also took to Twitter on Monday to inform that the Punjab Government has arranged 70 lawyers in Delhi to ensure quick legal recourse to farmers who have been booked by the Delhi police for their alleged connection to violence that took place on January 26 in the National Capital.

“Punjab Government has already arranged a team of 70 lawyers in Delhi to ensure quick legal recourse to farmers booked by the Delhi police. I will personally take up the issue of missing farmers with MHA & ensure these persons reach home safely. For assistance call 112,” Singh said on Twitter.

“Our hearts are with those fighting for their rights at the Delhi borders,” said the Chief Minister, appealing to the people of Punjab to immediately dial 112 to report any case of a person missing during the tractor rally.

He further added, “We will do everything possible to locate those who are missing. We are trying to get details and will ensure that they return to their homes”.

“Farmers are out on the streets putting their lives at stake. Lakhs of farmers have lost their lives and the Centre is not talking about it, not doing justice.
