Omar Abdullah: I will not contest Assembly Election in J&K until full statehood is restored

Having been a member of the most empowered Assembly in the land and that, too, as leader of that Assembly for six years, I simply cannot and will not be a member of a House that has been disempowered the way ours has: Vice president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference breaks his silence.

However, Omar, a former union minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, made it clear he would keep on to work for his party National Conference (NC) and people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Last year on August 5, in an unforgettable move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre abolished Article 370 of the Constitution to strip Jammu and Kashmir of its special status. The state was also separated into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Strongly critical of the dilution of Article 370 of the Constitution, Abdullah said many reasons had been given to justify the abrogation of the provision that granted special status and claimed that none of those stand any scrutiny.

“It is not a threat or blackmail, it’s not a display of me sulking. It’s just a simple acknowledgement that I won’t fight an election to lead the Union Territory assembly which is such a disempowered assembly,” mentioned Omar Abdullah.

The abolition of Article 370 was assumed to end terrorism but the government had been telling the Supreme Court that violence in Jammu and Kashmir was increasing, he said.

Omar was released after 234 days in detention under the Public Safety Act, on past March 24. He was put under house arrest on the intervening night of August 4-5, along with all top leaders of the state.

Doctor accuses Chinese officials of coronavirus outbreak cover-up in Wuhan market

There has been several allegations against the Chinese government for trying to cover up the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan. In the latest, a doctor from China, who was involved in the diagnosis of the early covid cases in the country, has revealed that local authorities in Wuhan destroyed the initial evidence of the virus.

According to PTI, Professor Kwok-Young Yuen, a microbiologist, physician and surgeon in Hong Kong, who diagnosed Covid-19 cases in Wuhan, has said that physical evidence at the Huanan wildlife market was destroyed to cover up the outbreak.

“When we went to the Huanan supermarket, of course, there was nothing to see because the market was clean already. So, you may say that the crime scene is already disturbed because the supermarket was cleared. We cannot identify any host which is giving the virus to humans,” BBC quoted Professor Yuen as saying.

He further said, “I do suspect that they have been doing some cover-up locally at Wuhan. The local officials who are supposed to immediately relay the information have not allowed this to be done as readily as it should.”

Coronavirus pandemic is said to be originated from the Huanan wildlife market in the central Chinese city, Wuhan, last year in December.

As per Johns Hopkins data, China has reported 86,570 covid-19 cases and 4,652 deaths.

However, many countries, including the US, have criticised China for not sharing the severity of the disease. Beijing had denied the accusations.

The US president, Donald Trump, had even called the virus, ‘Chinese Flu’, holding China responsible for it.

China has also been accused of reprimanding Dr Li Wenliang who tried to warn the medics about the severity of the deadly virus from the very beginning. He was the first to report about the virus in December last year.

Unfortunately, Li contracted the disease and died in February.

Till now, the pandemic has globally infected over 16 million people while more than 648,000 people have lost their lives to it.

Google is reportedly planning to implement work from home for its employees until July 2021 in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. According to a report of The Wall Street Journal, Google and its parent company, Alphabet, have decided to extend their remote work arrangement into next summer.

In an email to employees, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, on Monday wrote: ‘To give employees the ability to plan ahead, we are extending our global voulnatry work from home option through June 30, 2021 for roles that don’t need to be in the office.”

Prevoiusly, the company had announced that workers would return to offices by January 2021.

The arrangement will impact roughly 200,000 full-time and contract employees, the report said. The plan has been accomodated for the safety of employees with families, particularly those with young children that may need homeschooling.

As per the report of the War Street Journal, Pichai has come to the conslusion after discussing plans with an internal group of top executives.

However, the company has already reopened 42 offices around the world, including smaller offices in countries less effected by the pandemic such as Australia, Greece and Thailand, CNN reported.

Google was one of the first large companies to reccomend work from home in early March to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, back in May, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, made headlines for announcing work from home “forever” while mentioning that this option is not suitable for everyone. Dorsey said that he’s leaving the decision in the hands of its employees. “When we do decide to open offices, it also won’t be a snap back to the way it was before. It will be careful, intentional, office by office and gradual,” he had said.

Other major companies including Amazon and Apple have asked their workers to continue work from home until January 2021.

IndiGo implements up to 35 % pay cut for senior staff

One of the largest private airlines, IndiGo, has deepened its pay cuts up to 35 per cent for its senior employees and pilots. This move has come a week after the company released a statement which said that it will lay off a tenth of its staff to reduce the cash flow amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to PTI, Indigo CEO Ronojoy Dutta told employees, “I will increase my personal pay cut percentage to 35 per cent. I am asking all senior vice presidents and above to take a 30 per cent pay cut, all pilots will see their pay cut percentages increased to 28 per cent, all vice presidents will take a 25 per cent pay cut and associate vice presidents will take a 15 per cent pay cut.”

Earlier, the company has reported a net loss of Rs 871 crore for the quarter ended in March, amid a nearly 76 per cent surge in repair and maintenance expenses.

The domestic airline industry is expected to have incurred losses of $3.0 billion-$3.6 billion in the June quarter, with the aviation industry hit the hardest amid the coronavirus pandemic.

group stage spots for next season's UCL that come from domestic leagues have been finalized.

With the Premier League wrapping up on Sunday and both Manchester United and Chelsea qualifying for the Champions League, all group stage spots for next season’s UCL that come from domestic leagues have been finalized. 24 of the 32 group stage spots are clinched while the final eight will come from the playoff route after round of qualifying. Let’s take a look at what we know so far.

Two more spots in the group stage will go to the winner of this season’s Champions League, which you can see in August on CBS, as well as the winner of the Europa League.

In the event that the teams that win the tournaments are already qualified, we will see something similar to last season, when the third-place team in France was given direct qualification and others entered qualifying to occupy spots.

Man United started with it’s usual line up, Bruno Fernandes and Pogba manning the midfield with Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo reduced to a bench role once again. Kelechi Iheanacho started alongside Jamie Vardy for Leicester City as they aimed to pressure United’s fragile defence, and Leicester City sure looked the most assured out of both teams at the start of the match.

The first half was filled with nervy moments but still ended 0-0 with both coaches wary that all it could take to miss out on next season’s competition could be just a silly mistake.

The Reds finished a tight first half on top and Rashford comes close with a side-footed shot that went over the crossbar, after a spinning ball by Pogba deceived James Justin.

What is the reason behind the organization of IPL in UAE?

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to begin from September 19th in UAE, the tournament will end on November 8th. This time the things are different, the stage is different and most importantly players will be kept under bio-secure protocol amid coronavirus pandemic.

The window of IPL is available after the cancellation of World T20I which was supposed to start in the month of November. The cancellation of World T20I was one of the biggest steps taken by ICC and the decision was taken only for the security of players. Almost 60% of the expected players who could have made in their respective international teams for the flight of World T20I are also part of the upcoming Indian Premier League. So, the move made by ICC on the World T20I is now just a room for the organization of IPL.

On Sunday a BCCI made an official statement that they are not worried about the money and the audience, as of now they just want to conduct a safe IPL for the television spectators. Currently, UAE has almost 7000 active COVID-19 cases with 90% of recovery rate UAE is leading the tally in fastest recovering countries. BCCI also had the opportunity of hosting the IPL in New Zealand, New Zealand is the only cricketing nation where coronavirus is been ripped off.

At one point BCCI pitched for the safe conduct of IPL and also intended to replicate the money-minded allegations by the various cricketing boards but on the other hand, looking onto the current scenario UAE is the biggest sports marketing nation in the entire world. The media marketing and commercialization technique of BCCI in UAE is the talking point as well.
