“We fully trust the farmers of India, they are peace-loving & they are our ‘annadatas’. We respect them & we have the confidence that they will not allow Maoist and Naxal forces to influence the people across the country”- Union minister Piyush Goyal

Meanwhile, farmer leaders on Saturday said they have decided to intensify their agitation against the controversial agriculture laws and that their union leaders will sit on a hunger strike on December 14.

“If the government wants to hold talks, we are ready, but our main demand will remain the scrapping of the three laws. We will move onto our other demands only after that,” farmer leader Kanwalpreet Singh Pannu told reporters at Singhu border. He also announced that thousands of farmers will start their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march from Rajasthan’s Shahjahanpur through the Jaipur-Delhi Highway at 11 am on Sunday.

Police deployed in large numbers stopped groups of hundreds of farmers from blocking the main highways from Delhi to Agra and Jaipur.

Some farmers were detained on the expressway to Agra while other groups took over at least two toll booths and let cars and trucks pass without paying.

Maharashtra government imposes dress code for government employees

Setting a dress code in government offices, Maharashtra has now banned jeans, t-shirts and slippers for employees.

As per the order, the workers are to refrain from wearing clothes “with deep colours and strange embroidery patterns or pictures”. Women should wear sari, salwar, churidar-kurta or trousers with a kurta or a shirt and a dupatta if required. Men should wear trousers and shirts. Employees have been advised to wear khadi once a week.

Also, all government employees must wear khadi clothes at least on Fridays to encourage the use of handspun, a circular issued on December 8 stated. “It has been observed that several officials/staff (mainly contractual staff and advisers engaged for government work) do not wear attire suitable for government employees. Hence, the image of government staff gets sullied among people,” it said.

The circular also said that people expect “good behaviour and personality” from all government officials and employees, reports news agency PTI.

“….if the attire of officials and employees is unsuitable and unclean, it also has an indirect impact on their work,” the circular added.

Earlier this week Monday, the general administration department of the state government issued a resolution putting in place a strict dress code for all its employees, saying they are representatives of the State and an inappropriate dress code can malign the image of the government in the minds of the people.

Gold worth Rs 45cr goes ‘missing’ from CBI custody in Tamil Nadu

In a rather unusual revelation, 103 kg gold worth Rs 45,00,00,000 (45 crore) has gone “missing” from the “safe” custody of India’s premier investigating agency-the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The CBI had reportedly seized the gold from a Chennai-based importer in 2012.

In a major embarrassment to the CBI, the Madras High Court Friday ordered the Tamil Nadu Police to probe the disappearance of gold from the agency’s custody, rejecting its plea that “the prestige of the CBI would come down if investigation is done by the local police”.
Asking the CB-CID to register an FIR, the court said: “It may be an agni pariksha (trial by fire) for the CBI, but that cannot be helped. If their hands are clean, like Sita, they may come out brighter. If not, they would have to face the music.”

The central agency said it had handed over the 72 keys of the safes and vaults to the Chennai principal special court for CBI cases. The CBI claimed that during the seizure, the gold bars were weighed all-together but while handing over to the liquidator, appointed for a settlement of debts between Surana and the SBI, it was weighed individually and that was the reason for the discrepancy.

After exiting from China, Samsung will establish their unit in India

Samsung, one of the world’s leading electronics companies, will now manufacture mobile display products in Uttar Pradesh. This Samsung unit was earlier established in China. With the establishment of this new manufacturing unit of Samsung going to be set up in Noida, an investment of about Rs 4825 crore will be made in the state. Not only this, India will also become the third country in the world to manufacture mobile displays manufactured with OLED technology.

This will be Samsung’s third unit in Noida after Vietnam and South Korea. After shutting down its display unit in China, Samsung has decided to bring it to India. India is eyeing around one thousand companies planning to exit China. Of this, around 300 companies are seriously preparing to come to India.

For this project, the state government will give exemption in capital subsidy, stamp duty under the electronics manufacturing policy. It is the first unit in the country to be displaced from China. Samsung will invest 4,825 crore in this project. With this project in Noida, 1,510 people will get direct employment. At the same time, a large number of people will get indirect employment. Upon completion of this project, UP will get a different identity in the world. A major reason behind this is that Samsung makes up 70% of the display used in TVs, mobile phones, tablets, watches in the world. In such a situation, products made in UP will be exported all over the world. Samsung is currently the largest exporter of UP.

Meanwhile, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has also decided to provide additional incentive to the Samsung Display Noida Pvt Ltd for setting up the manufacturing unit in Noida, which is one of the major industrial hubs of the state. A decision to give incentives was taken in a meeting of the state Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday.

“The unit intends to invest Rs 4,825 crore. It could be made possible by the sustained efforts of the UP government to create an eco-system in NCR in sync with the intent of the Centre to make an export hub in view of the ever-increasing demand of mobile and other gadgets in the country and abroad,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson of the UP government also said that the new facility will be the first high-technique project of the Samsung in India and it will also become the third such unit in the whole world.

As per an order issued today, only Udhampur and Ganderbal districts will have no high-speed restrictions, whereas the rest of 18 districts in J&K will have restrictions on high-speed internet services.

Home Department, Shaleen Kabra, said: “In view of credible inputs, and as a matter of abundant caution, the access to the internet had to be restricted on the day of poll in the areas going for polling. There has been a continuous attempt to radicalise the youth using social media which rely on high-speed internet.”

Initially Internet services were cut off in J & K last year on August 5, just hours before the Centre revoked Article 370 of the Constitution.

2G internet service was allowed to use on January 25.

Pranab Mukherjee’s book accuses Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh For 2014 Congress defeat

The problems for Congress continue to mount as along wit inner party confrontation, a new revelations by former President Pranab Mukherjee has invited new criticism. In the book, which will be releasing soon, late Mr. Mukherjee has held former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi for the party’s 2014 defeat.

The former President, who died in August this year, said in the book that some people in the party believed that had he been the Prime Minister, Congress would not had faced defeat in 2014 elections.

“Some members of the Congress have theorized that, had I become the PM in 2004, the party might have averted the 2014 Lok Sabha drubbing. Though I don’t subscribe to this view, I do believe that the party’s leadership lost political focus after my elevation as president. While Sonia Gandhi was unable to handle the affairs of the party, Dr (Manmohan) Singh’s prolonged absence from the House put an end to any personal contact with other MPs,” Mr Mukherjee writes.

The memoir  titled “The Presidential Years” will be released in January 2011.

”While Dr Singh was preoccupied with saving the coalition, which took a toll on governance, Modi seemed to have employed a rather autocratic style of governance during his first term, as seen by the bitter relationship among the government, the legislature and the judiciary,” Mukherjee further adds in the book.

While comparing current Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Mr. Mukherjee elaborates difference in their styles of working.

“I believe that the moral authority to govern vests with the PM. The overall state of the nation is reflective of the functioning of the PM and his administration. While Dr Singh was preoccupied with saving the coalition, which took a toll on governance, Modi seemed to have employed a rather autocratic style of governance during his first term, as seen by the bitter relationship among the government, the legislature and the judiciary. Only time will tell if there is a better understanding on such matters in the second term of this government,” he writes.

The memoir will recount Mr Mukherjee’s journey from growing up in a remote village in Bengal to becoming India’s first citizen.

Meanwhile, in a video posted on Twitter, Donald Trump hailed the decision and said that it is one of the greatest scientific accomplishments in history.

“The United States is the first nation in the world to produce a verifiably safe and effective vaccine. Today’s achievement is a reminder of America’s unlimited potential,” Trump said in the video on Friday.
