Shah Rukh Khan donates 500 Remdesivir injections for Covid-19 patients’ treatment

Showing a great humanitarian gesture, Shah Rukh Khan has donated 500 Remdesivir injections used in the covid-19 treatment for covid-19 patients to hospitals in Delhi.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain thanked SRk for his generous gesture and said that the help came “when it was needed the most”. Replying to him, the superstar said, “This crisis will be overcome only if we continue to maintain a united front. My team and I are available to help in the future as well. Thank you to your team for all their service.”

On Thursday, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain took to Twitter to thank Shah Rukh Khan. In his tweet, he wrote, “We are extremely thankful to Sh @iamsrk and @MeerFoundation for donating 500 Remdesivir injections at a time when it was needed the most. We are much obliged for the support extended by you during the time of crisis (sic).

Previously, Shah Rukh Khan had made numerous donations and gifted PPE kits to health workers amid the pandemic.

In November, Shah Rukh Khan had donated 20,000 N-95 masks to Kerala. State Health Minister KK Shailaja thanked SRK for his kind gesture.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Shah Rukh Khan has been away from Silver screen for quite some time now. Except for making a cameo in Karan Johar’s Netflix show ‘The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives,’ the actor hasn’t released an acting project in two years. However, recently, he was spotted shooting for his upcoming film Pathan. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film also features John Abrham and Deepika Padukone.

Indian domestic season to begin with Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy

The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) will begin its domestic season with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament, whose matches will be played from January 10 to 31 in 6 states, where a bio-safe environment will be created. The participating team will have to reach their respective bio-safe environment on January 2.

It is learned that BCCI Secretary Jai Shah has mailed to all the state units that the domestic season will start with the Mushtaq Ali Trophy, but there is no clarity on when the Ranji Trophy will start.

Notice issued against Serum Institute against use of the trademark COVISHIED

The civil court in Maharashtra has issued notice to the Serum Institute of India on the suit against the use of the name ‘COVISHIELD’ for the proposed vaccine.

The civil suit was filed by a Nanded-based pharmaceutical company “Cutis Biotech” which claimed to be the “lawful and prior user” of the tradename “COVISHIELD”

The plaintiff, Cutis Biotech claimed that they filed an application for registration of COVISHIELD’s trademark in its name on 29th of April this year.

According to the charges, the Serum Institute of India has filed an application for tradenames ‘COVISHIELD’ and ‘COVIDSHIELD’ in June, and in the month of July, Cutis Biotech raised an objection on the trademark.

Opposition hits Kerala CM on free vaccine announcement amid local body polls

After the Kerala government has announced that they will provide free vaccine to all in the state, the opposition has alleged that the Chief Minister that the announcement is just a move to influence voters in the local body polls.

The United Democratic Front convenor MM Hasan said they will lodge a complaint against Kerala Chief Minister over violation of the model code of conduct that is in force in the state in connection with the local body polls.

In reply to UDF’s statement LDF also targeted and made their stand clear by saying, “The UDF allegation is childish. The Covid-19 treatment in the state is being provided free of cost. The announcement of giving the vaccine also free of cost was part of the process of him explaining details of the treatment,” the LDF convener said.

Yesterday while addressing media, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, the government has no intention of levying a charge for the COVID vaccine.

Plea to K’taka govt to introduce Konkani as medium of education

Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy has urged Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to introduce Konkani as a medium of education in the state.

Konkani academy made the request in the context of the proposed national educational policy (NEP) that lays stress on education in the mother tongue.

The academy in a letter noted, that there were over 25 lakh Konkani-speaking people in the state. People belonging to three religions and 42 communities presently use the language.

The academy requested that Konkani be used as a medium of education up to Class V and offered as a subject for classes above.

The academy also urged the government to include Konkani as a subject for courses like B.Ed and M.Ed and appoint more Konkani educators.

Konkani in academic has already been added as a third language for interested students till Class X on an optional basis in both Kannada and Devanagari scripts.PTI MVG SS.

In the sixth phase of DDC polls, a total of 31 divisions gone for polling today, including 14 seats from the Kashmir division and 17 from the Jammu division.

While 334 Panch and 77 Sarpanch seats have also gone for voting across Jammu and Kashmir.

Yesterday Union State Finance Minister Anurag Thakur addressed a gathering in Budgam, Kashmir while campaigning for Bhartiya Janata Party. He targetted the Gupkar alliance and section 370 will never come back in the Jammu and Kashmir. He also added that the huge voter turn-out in the first five phases concludes the democracy is winning in the Union territory.

“The era of darkness and divisiveness will end as the election results on December 22 will usher in an era of engagement, entrepreneurship and resurgence of enterprise in this heavenly region.”

Cheque payments rule changing from January 1: Here’s all you need to know

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) decided to introduce the ‘positive pay system’ for cheque a couple of months ago. Under the new rule re-confirmation of key details may be needed for payments beyond ₹50,000.

This new cheque payment rule will come into effect from 1 January 2021. The announcement by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das in August MPC came in order to keep consumer safety in focus and to lower the cases of fraud and abuse with respect to cheque payment.

Key things to know about the ‘Positive Pay’ rule:

– Under this rule, after a cheque is issued by an account holder to anyone, they will share the cheque details with the bank.

-An account holder shares the details of the issued cheque like Cheque Number, Cheque date, Payee name, Account number, Amount, etc with the bank along with an image of the front and reverse side of the cheque, before giving the cheque to the beneficiary.

– Before making payment against the cheque, the details awill be matched by the banks with the details provided to the bank through Positive Pay and if the details match then only the cheque will be honoured.

– The ‘Positive Pay’ system involves reconfirmation of key details of large value cheques.

-Banks shall enable it for all account holders issuing cheques for amounts of Rs 50,000 and above. While availing of this facility is at the discretion of the account holder, banks may consider making it mandatory in case of cheques for amounts of Rs 5,00,000 and above.

PM Modi pays tribute to security personnel who laid down their lives in Parliament terror attack

India will never forget the cowardly attack on its Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday as he paid tributes to security personnel who laid down their lives in the terror attack on this day in 2001.

Taking to Twitter on the 19th anniversary of the dastardly attack, PM Modi said, “We will never forget the cowardly attack on our Parliament on this day in 2001. We recall the valour and sacrifice of those who lost their lives protecting our Parliament. India will always be thankful to them.”

Nine persons, including eight security personnel, died in the attack by terrorists belonging to Pakistan-based outfits. All five terrorists were killed by security forces.

Although all five terrorists involved in the attack were killed during the gunfire with security personnel on December 13 itself, four persons were arrested and charged as masterminds within days.

The case against the four – Mohammed Afzal Guru, Shaukat Hussain, Afsan Guru and SAR Geelani – went on for about a decade, with the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court eventually acquitting two, and upholding the death sentence of one.

The incident led to a high level of tension between India and Pakistan and a massive upgrade in the security of the Parliament.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also tweeted paying tribute to the martyrs.

Mahatma Gandhi statue defaced in Washington by Khalistan supporters

The statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Washington DC’s Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Plaza in front of the Indian embassy was defaced by Khalistani elements on Saturday, December 12 in protest against the farm laws passed by the Centre.

Hundreds of Sikhs from in and around Greater Washington DC area, Maryland and Virginia, along with many from other states like New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio and North Carolina, on Saturday carried out a car rally to the Indian Embassy in downtown Washington DC, where they gathered to express solidarity with the protesting farmers.

The Embassy has sought a timely investigation and action against the culprits under the relevant law and has also taken up this matter with the US State Department, as per its official statement.

The Indian Embassy, in an official statement, said: “The Embassy strongly condemns this mischievous act by hooligans masquerading as protestors against the universally respected icon of peace and justice.”

However, the peaceful protest was soon hijacked by “separatist Sikhs” carrying “Khalistani flags” with anti-India posters and banners that said they represent “The Republic of Khalistan”, PTI reported.

The Dirty Picture actress Arya Banerjee found dead 


The daughter of sitar maestro late Pandit Nikhil Bandyopadhyay, Arya Banerjee alias Debdatta Banerjee (35), was mysteriously found dead in her posh south Kolkata residence, the police said on Saturday.

The mystery over the death of the actor-model intensified as the police have not found anything homicidal in nature from the place of the incident, which took place on Friday.

According to the police, her domestic help got suspicious after Arya did not respond to door bells and phone calls in the morning. She then informed the neighbours who called the police. The police broke open the door to her apartment and found the body lying in the bedroom.

The police said that the body was sent for a forensic examination and a forensic team collected samples from her room.

UN secretary general urges the world to declare “climate emergency”

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday urged all the countries across the globe to declare a “climate emergency” as yesterday marked the 5th anniversary of of the Paris climate accord.

At the online Climate Ambition Summit, co-hosted by the UN, the UK and France, Guterres said, “Can anybody still deny that we are facing a dramatic emergency?” Guterres said “I urge all others to follow.”

“This is unacceptable. The trillions of dollars needed for Covid recovery is money that we are borrowing from future generations. This is a moral test. We cannot use these resources to lock in policies that burden future generations with a mountain of debt on a broken planet,” he added.

More than 70 world leaders, civil society activists, business chiefs and city mayors were in attendance at the Climate Ambition Summit.

“It is the melting of permafrost; forest fires that hit closer to the home of the climate crisis deniers; droughts that ransack living beings of their resources; floods that reminded many of us that we have no escape,” Selina Neirok Leem, a campaigner from the Marshall Islands, told the summit.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged the world to collectively fight against the pollution while we combat the covid-19.

“And at the same time, we can create hundreds of thousands of jobs, millions of jobs, across the planet as we collectively recover from coronavirus,” Johnson said.

“We call on companies and governments around the world to do all we can to make 2021 the year we turn the corner for good,” Apple Inc Chief Executive Tim Cook told the summit.

United States to roll out Pfizer covid-19 vaccine from Monday

The Unites States will start vaccination drive from Monday as it has granted regulatory emergency approval to Pfizer and BionTech’s covid-19 vaccine, the official in charge of the distribution operation said Saturday.

General Gus Perna in a media briefing said that the first doses of the vaccine will be shipped on Sunday and the vaccination process will start from Monday morning, “We are operationally 100% confident that we will get the vaccines to the American people.”

“Expect 145 sites across all the states to receive vaccine on Monday, another 425 sites on Tuesday. And the final 66 sites on Wednesday, which will complete the initial delivery of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine,” he added.

In the first phase, frontline workers, police personnel and essential workers are expected to be vaccinated.

The approval of a vaccine would raise hope in the otherwise mundane situation in the United States as the nation continues to witness the worst surge of the virus.

The The country reported its highest daily cases, more than 232,700, on Friday, according to a Reuters report. In the last 7-day, the United States is reporting 2,411 deaths per day, the highest 7-day average since the onset of pandemic.

It also reported more than 3,000 deaths in a single day on Friday, becoming the first and only country to do so.

Meanwhile, the US have become the sixth country to green light the Pfizer vaccine on Friday night. Previously, Canada, UK and Bahrain among other countries have granted permission to the vaccine.

Covid-19 update: India adds 30,254 cases in last 24-hour

India’s covid-19 tally has reached 98.57 lakh with 30,254 new infections detected in the last 24-hour. With 391 more people dying due to the virus, the overall fatality has reached 1,43,019, the Ministry of health and welfare said in its 8:00 am update.

A total of 33,136 people have recovered in the last 24 hours taking the total recovered tally to 93,57,464. Currently, there are 3,56,546 active cases in the country. While the recovery rate stands at 94.93 per cent, the fatality rate is 1.45 as per cent.

A total of 15,37,11,833 samples have been tested for Covid-19 till now. Of these, 10,14,434 samples were tested on Friday, said Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Here’s some more updates:

*Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana account for 72 per cent of overall cases in the country.

*Telangana recorded 573 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths, taking the tally to 2,77,724 and the count to 1,493, the health officials reported.

*Jharkhand’s COVID-19 tally rose to 1,11,366 as 189 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said on Sunday.

* Pfizer, which was approved by the United States on Monday for emergency use, will start rolling their vaccine for covid-19 in the country from Monday morning, said General Gustave Perna, head of the Donald Trump-led administration’s Operation Warp Speed, on Saturday.

*Assam registered no COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, while 152 new cases pushed the tally to 2,14,584, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

* Andhra Pradesh recorded 510 new Covid positive cases, increasing the state’s tally to 8.75 lakh, even as 665 more patients recovered from the virus to outnumber infections on Saturday.

*The covid-19 cases in the United States have topped the grim milestone of 16 million on Saturday.

*Another 21,502 people in Britain have tested positive for Covid-19, pushing the tally in the country to 1,830,956, according to official figures released.

Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 71.6 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 1.60 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
