Delhi Air quality expected to improve by Monday

Delhi’s air quality was recorded in the ‘severe’ category on Saturday and ‘local generated pollutants’ are accumulating here due to slow wind speed. The meteorological department gave information about this. Officials of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that air quality is expected to improve by Monday as the wind speed may increase.

This air quality index was on the air quality index.

On Friday, the average air quality index was recorded at 382. The average index was 341 on Thursday. This figure was 373 on Wednesday, 367 on Tuesday, 318 on Monday and 268 on Sunday. The air quality index of neighboring cities Ghaziabad was recorded at 446, Greater Noida at 401, Noida at 406 which falls in the ‘severe’ category;

Officials of the Meteorological Department said that although the direction of the wind is northwest by Monday, the minimum temperature may be further reduced. West and northwest winds flow from the icy Himalayas to the plains. IMD said that partial to moderate fog is also likely to prevail over the next two days.

VK Soni, head of the Environmental Research Center of IMD, said that the wind speed is slow which helps in freezing of locally generated pollutants.

He said, “There is moisture in the east winds, which is also creating another level of pollutants. Due to all these factors, the air quality reached the ‘severe’ category. “However, Sony said that due to the increase in wind speed, by Monday the air quality can improve and reach the ‘severe’ category. The Meteorological Department said that the minimum temperature was recorded at 11 degree Celsius in Delhi on Saturday and the maximum temperature is likely to be around 28 degree Celsius.

Talking about Diljit, there was a sharp debate on Twitter between actor Diljit Dosanjh and actress Kangana Ranaut regarding the farmer movement. The case started with Kangana’s name of raising the name of Bilkis Bano, which became famous from the Shaheen Bagh movement, but now it has reached the ill-will between the two artists.

Rajinikants political party will fight on all 234 seats in 2021 TN Assembly elections

The massively debated political debut of superstar Rajinikanth in Tamil Nadu assembly polls 2021 has impacted Tamil Nadu politics. Superstar Rajinikanth’s political adviser Tamilaruvi Manian has stated that the superstar’s party will contest all 234 seats.

Earlier on Thursday, putting an end to all speculations, Rajnikanth had announced that he would launch his political party in January 2021, months ahead of the Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.

He said an official declaration regarding the same will be made on December 31.

He has made it clear that all the seats that will go for polls will be contested by Rajinikanth’s new political party for elections.

He also added that unlike the ‘politics of hate’ which was being practiced these days, Rajinikanth’s party would follow ‘spiritual politics.’

“We will contest on all 234 seats in next Assembly elections. Our politics will be spiritual politics unlike the politics of hatred, currently being practised. We will not slam anybody,” Manian told reporters.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing availability of vaccine in next few weeks the speculations on vaccine districution has been the centre of discussion.

In the first round around 250 million Indians are targeted for immunisation acording to the government but is it really possible?

About 250 million Indians will be targeted for immunisation in the first phase. India is one of the largest syringe makers in the world and will need to ramp up production. (Photo: AFP)

Storing a covid vaccine may require temperatures ranging from an extreme of -70 degrees centigrade to eight degrees centigrade. Presently India don’t have the capability of storing at -70 degrees and for that the country will need 7380 crore as the vaccine comes out.

Corey Anderson has decided not to play international cricket from New Zealand. He will now play international cricket for America.

The 29-year-old Anderson has the second fastest century in ODI cricket. He will start with Major League T20 cricket in America and will represent America in international cricket.

Anderson’s fiancée is from the United States and her name is Mary Shamburger and she spent most of the time in Texas amid the COVID-19 pandemic where his fiancé lives.

Nathon Lyon added to the Australian squad for the second T20I against T20I

Australian selectors have included Nathan Lyon in the squad for the last two matches of the three T20 series against India.

Cameron Green has been released from the national team to join the Australia-A team for the practice match played with India-A.

India vs Australia

Nathan Lyon’s inclusion in the T20 squad is a surprising decision, as he is not considered a T20 specialist. He has played only two matches in this format while he played his last T20 match in 2018.

Australia lost by 11 runs in the first T20 match played on Friday. Two leg-spinners Adam Zampa and Mitchell Swapson played in this match. The team is currently struggling with the fitness problems of the players.

India set for a series win against Australia after winning 1st T20I

In the first T20 match, India beat Australia and started the series with a 1-0 lead. Now the second match of the series will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Sunday. The first two matches of the ODI series were played at this ground and in both the matches, Australia had defeated India by scoring huge scores.

Once again the support for the batsmen can be seen on the SCG pitch and it is expected that the last two T20 matches to be held here will also see big scores on the scoreboard.

A one-day win for Australia may be a mental boost, but this team, worried by injuries, is also worried. David Warner is already out of the series. Captain Aaron Finch also suffered a hip injury in the first T20. The situation is not clear about them.

If Finch does not play, it will be a big blow to the host team and then the weight of the team’s batting will be on Steve Smith.

How Tamil Nadu politics is shaping for 2021 polls?

Tamil Nadu elections is all set for early 2021. The BJP-AIADMK government has seen a decline in trends of gaining support from the locals. The alliance has been weakened in the later half of the five year quota.

With Sasikala in jail the AIADMK has gone with their current Chief Minister candidate as a leading option for 2021 polls. The opposition DMK and the other Dravidian parties are constant with their retaliation on the right winger BJP role on Tamil Nadu politics. BJP alliance is the supreme reason for the dravidian parties on their unsupportive move to AIADMK.

Just days before superstar Rajnikanth announced his commencement in the politics with the launch of his own party in January. Erlier there were speculations that he may join BJP and that was ended with Rajni’s remarking decision. Still it may possible that BJP may form an alliance with the Rajni’s party as they showed a positive approach towards his announcement.

Rajnikanth has also announced that is party will fight in all 234 seats in 2021 polls. It may possible that the superstar can surge the polls single handedly without any support.

Recently the entire row of Vetrivel has shown that if AIADMK got the majority with help of other Dravidian parties then they will throw out the BJP from their picture of contention.

‘Mumbai Mirror’ and ‘Pune Mirror’ to stop publication, announces Times Group

The Times of India Group on Saturday announced that it will stop the publication of Mumbai Mirror and Pune Mirror due to the coronavirus-induced economic crisis.

However, Mumbai Mirror will be relaunched as a weekly, and continue to have a strong digital presence, the group said in a statement.

“Following months of discussions and deliberations, we have made this extremely difficult and painful decision to recalibrate our portfolio of publications,” the statement said. “We truly value the contribution of our journalists and other staff towards building such a strong brand in a relatively short time, and thank them for their hard work and great effort.”

It was in May 2005 when the first edition of Mumbai Mirror was published and soon led to the launch of sister siblings in Pune, Ahmedabad, and Bangalore.

Here is the official note:

Fifteen years ago, the ‘city that never sleeps’ had a new and good reason for staying awake – and for waking up, when it did manage to get some sleep: Mumbai Mirror. Feisty and fearless, energetic and enthusiastic, playful yet punchy, it lived up to its name from the day it was born, mirroring Mumbai in all its myriad moods.

It was as local as Mumbai’s locals – the lifeblood that keeps the city on track and moving. The paper became such an integral part of the reader’s life, driving the narrative of the city, that it was decided to extend the experience to Bengaluru, Pune and Ahmedabad.

Sadly, just as the pandemic, lockdown and unprecedented economic crisis have laid low many great ideas and initiatives before they could fully take root, they came as a body blow for the still-young brand.

Not only has the newspaper industry been among the hardest-hit in terms of revenues, it has been weighed down by an import duty that has added to newsprint costs. With the long-held hope of a stimulus not materializing and the Indian economy now officially in recession, it is with a heavy heart that the group has decided to cease publication of Mirror in Pune and relaunch Mumbai Mirror as a weekly. They will, however, continue to have a strong digital presence.

India, biggest buyer of Covid-19 vaccine

India is the largest buyer of COVID-19 vaccines in the world with 1.6 billion doses, according to a global analysis, a number some scientists say could cover 800 million people, or 60 per cent of its population, and will be enough to develop ‘herd immunity’.

As of now, India has purchased 500 million doses of the Oxford University-AstraZeneca vaccine candidate, one billion from the US company Novavax and 100 million doses of the Sputnik V candidate from Russia’s Gamaleya Research Institute, according to the US-based Duke University Global Health Innovation Center.

The European Union is the second-largest buyer of COVID-19 vaccines with 1.58 billion doses followed by the US that has purchased a little over one billion doses.

While India has purchased three COVID-19 vaccines as of November 30, the US and EU have purchased six vaccine candidates as per the Launch and Scale Speedometer analysis.

As countries strategise to secure more shots to protect their populations against the novel coronavirus infection, Duke University has released a new global assessment of purchasing agreements for COVID-19 vaccines, even before any candidates are in the market.

“Countries with manufacturing capacity, such as India and Brazil, have been successful in negotiating large advance market commitments with leading vaccine candidates as part of the manufacturing agreements,” the Duke researchers noted in their analysis.

36 UK MPs support farmers agitation

Thirty-six British MPs from across political parties, but mainly Labour, have fired off a letter to UK foreign secretary Dominic Raab calling for an an urgent meeting to “discuss the deteriorating situation in the Punjab and its relationship with the Centre”.

Referring to the new farm laws as a “death warrant” for “India’s bread basket”, the letter calls on Raab to make representations to his Indian counterparts about the impact of the laws on British Sikhs and Punjabis. The letter states the protests “are of particular concern to Sikhs in the UK” as many have family members and ancestral land in Punjab.

‘There are widespread farmer protests across the country over the failure of the Indian government to protect farmers from exploitation and ensure a fair price for their produce in the three new agricultural laws introduced despite the Coronavirus.

This is of particular concern to Sikhs in Britain and those associated with Punjab. Many British Sikhs and Punjabis have taken up the matter with their MPs, because they are directly influenced by family members and their ancestral land in Punjab,’ the letter read.

The development comes as farmers have continued their protests at the Delhi-Haryana and Delhi-Uttar Pradesh borders.

The agitated farmers are demanding the repeal of the three farm laws passed by Parliament earlier this year and have expressed apprehension that they would pave the way for the dismantling of the minimum support price system, leaving them at the mercy of big corporate houses.

The government has maintained that the new laws will provide farmers with better opportunities. It has also accused the opposition parties of misleading farmers.
