Scrapping of Article 370 gets mention in NCERT textbook of Class 12

The historic decision of invalidating the provisions of Article 370 has found a brief mention in the revised Class XII political science book of National Council for Educational Research and Training(NCERT) for the academic session 2020-21.

The revised textbook, Politics of India since Independence, has addressed the withdrawal of Article 370 in the chapter, ‘Regional Aspirations’.

The chapter says “Jammu and Kashmir had a special status under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. However, in spite of it, the region witnessed violence, cross-border terrorism and political instability with internal and external ramifications”.

“The Article resulted in the loss of many lives, including that of innocent civilians, security personnel and militants. Besides, there was also a large scale displacement of Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir valley,” it read.

Highlighting the landmark decision, a sentence of the chapter reads: ‘On 5 August 2019, Article 370 was abolished by the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act 2019 and the state was constituted into two Union Territories, viz, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.”

The revised chapter talks about the development in the state that took place from 2002 onward. It also deals with the internal problems and the roots of problem that existed in the state during insurgency period.

The book also talks about the President’s Rule imposed in the state in June 2018.The Governor’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir was imposed on June 20, 2018 and the State Assembly was kept suspended after the state faced a political crisis when BJP withdrew support to Mehbooba Mufti-led government.

The chapter also features two front-page newspaper stories — ‘Kashmir Accedes to India’ and ‘Sheikh Abdullah Arrested.”

Earlier this month, CBSE announced a reduction of 30 percent syllabus for class 9 to 12 due to the Covid-19 situation in the country. The decision received much flak as opposition alleged centre of dropping many important topics including ‘Democracy’ to propagate their ideology.

Covid Impact: IndiGo to cut off 10 percent of its staff

The covid-19 pandemic has brought many unprecedented changes in our lives but economic turbulence remains the first and foremost. With flights being suspended in the wake of the pandemic, aviation industry has suffered major bankruptcy that has led many airlines to cut their staffs.

In the latest, India’s biggest private airline IndiGo has decided to lay off 10 percent of its workforce.

According to IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta, the company after precisely assessing and reviewing all possible situations, has come to the conclusion that it needs to bid “a painful adieu” to 10 percent of its staff. IndiGo currently has around 23,531 strong work force.

“It is for the first time in the history of IndiGo that we have undertaken such a painful measure. This is indeed a very unfortunate turn of events from the optimistic growth trajectory we had carved out for ourselves just six months ago; but this pandemic has forced us to re-evaluate our best laid plans.
To help the impacted employees’ tide over the uncertainties emanating from this decision, IndiGo has created a ‘6E Care package’,” Dutta said.

“Even now, IndiGo is flying only a small percentage of its full fleet of 250 airplanes. This has been one of the toughest decisions that we have had to take and we are ensuring that the transition process for the impacted employees is carried out seamlessly, professionally and with the utmost respect and compassion,” he further added.

“Right at the start of this crisis, IndiGo understood the gravity of the situation. For us, it was critical to minimise the impact of the pandemic on our employees, and in fact IndiGo was one of the few airlines globally which paid full salaries for the month of March and April, despite the disruption in business,” Dutta said.

“And from where things stand currently, it is impossible for our company to fly through this economic storm without making some sacrifices, in order to sustain our business operations,” he culminated.

Airlines in the country resumed domestic operation on May 25 after a gap of two months, as the government allowed flights on domestic routes only. However, only one-third capacity of passenger load was allowed, leaving no options of profitability for the civil aviation sector.

US Election 2020: Kanye West launches his first campaign after announcing presidential bid

Rapper Kanye West, on Sunday, held his first presidential campaign since announcing his bid for the US election scheduled for November.

At the event, West covered a various range of topics, including abortion, god, international trade, license deals and taxes. While addressing the said topics, he even broke down in tears at one point before a crowd in North Charleston, South Carolina.

West, 43, a former supporter of President Donald Trump, missed the deadline to qualify for the ballot in several states. He has only been able to qualify to appear on Okalhoma’s presidential ballot so far.

At the event, the singer appeared with 2020 shaved into the back of his head and donning a protective security vest. Neitehr West, nor the audience had microphones, leading him to repeat his statements at the event.

While talking about the abortion law in the state, Kanye revealed that his parents wanted to abort him. There would have been no Kanye West, because my dad was too busy,” he said.

“I almost killed my daughter… even if my wife [Kim Kardashian West] were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world, even when I didn’t want to,” he added.

“The only thing that can free us is by obeying the rules that were given to us for a promised land,” he said. “Abortion should be legal because guess what? The law is not by God anyway, so what is legality?”West mentioned.

West announced his candidacy earlier this month on July 4. Some has called this his publicly stunt for his upcoming album, others have even roasted the entertainer online.

Rajasthan: Shekhawat questions audio tape authenticity after

Rajastha:Union Jal Shakti Minister and Jodhpur MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has alleged that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was framing him for the defeat of the latter’s son, according to a report by The Times of India.

Shekhawat said that “a fabricated audio clip released last week by the Rajasthan Congress was engineered by chief minister Ashok Gehlot to avenge the defeat of his son in 2019”.

The Jodhpur MP had defeated Gehlot’s son and Congress candidate Vaibhav by about 2.7 lakh votes in the Lok Sabha polls 2019.

The minister, told the publication that the contents of the tape were “malicious and defamatory”.

File photo

“Neither the voice (in the recording) is mine, nor the accent. I have heard the entire conversation in the three audio clips. The person who is being referred to as ‘Gajendra’ has the accent of a man from the Sri Ganganagar region while I speak with a heavy Jodhpur Marwari accent. Second, it’s laughable that content in the clip is being seen as seditious in nature.”

Responding to the name ‘Gajendra Singh’ figuring in the FIR, the Union minister said, “The source of the recording is unverifiable. The case is being built against me only to bully and instill fear in the minds of Congress MLAs held at the Fairmont hotel in Jaipur by Gehlot to thwart a potential rebellion. There is no probe by the Rajasthan government regarding how and where that audio originated on social media or who recorded it. Instead of verifying the clip’s veracity, authenticity or even its source, CM Gehlot has chosen to send his state cops to record my statement and collect my voice sample out of vendetta for 2019. He wants to send a message to his MLAs that if he can frame a Union minister, he can frame them too.”

The Congress few days back released three audio clips that had conversations revolving about the proposed overthrow of the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan. Shekhawat was alleged to have been one of the three men doing that conservation, the other two being Congress MLA Bhanwarlal Sharma and one Sanjay Jain. Later two FIRs were filed in this matter.
