Australia vs India: Do or Die situation for Virat & Co.

To save the series against Australia, Team India will have to do their best in the second ODI on Sunday. India lost by 66 runs in the first match. The way Australia took advantage of India’s weaknesses is a matter of concern for captain Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri. The second match to be played in Sydney will start at 9.10 AM IST.

In the first ODI, Hardik Pandya scored 90 runs in 76 balls, but like the 2017 Champions Trophy final, the match cannot be won by just one brilliant innings. Pandya himself has admitted that he is not in a position to bowl at the moment and will not be able to bowl before the T20 World Cup. This leaves Kohli with bowlers who cannot bat and no top-order batsman can bowl.

On the other hand, Australia captain Aaron Finch, Steve Smith and David Warner are in great form, which Jaspreet Bumrah and the rest of the bowlers did not prove to be effective. There is also no possibility of any change in the bowling combination of the Indian team unless both Yuzvendra Chahal and Navdeep Saini are declared unfit. Chahal and Saini both conceded 172 runs in 20 overs.

Indian team fined for slow over-rate against Australia

Team India lost the first match of the Australia tour and now the players have been fined. On Friday, players will have to pay a penalty of 20 per cent of their match fees for slow over-rate at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) against Australia.

India took 4 hours and 6 minutes to complete their 50 overs in the first ODI. The Virat Brigade threw an over short of the target in due time. Match referee David Boon of the International Cricket Council (ICC) fined it.

The ICC said in a statement issued on Saturday, “As per Article 2.22 of the ICC’s Code of Conduct of Minimum Over Speed Violations for Players and Support Staff, the players will be charged for their match fees from each over in the event of failure to bowl in the stipulated time. A 20 percent penalty is imposed.

“Captain Virat Kohli has accepted the violation and the proposed penalty, so there is no need for an official hearing,” the release said.

The violation was determined by on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Sam Nogajski, TV umpire Paul Reiffel and fourth umpire Gerrard Abode.

Even Steve Smith admitted after the match that this was the longest 50-over match in all the matches he played. The Indian team is trailing 0-1 in the three-match series and the second ODI will be played in Sydney on Sunday.
