US election 2020: Health expert slams Trump’s ‘covid-19 vaccine available before election day’ claim

With just one day left for the presidential election, US health experts have slammed Donald Trump over his ‘covid-19 vaccine would be available before November 3’ jibe.

Over the last few months, Trump and other White House advisors have repeatedly emphasised that hundreds of millions of covid-19 vaccine doses would be ready for public use by Election Day.

However, US top health authorities including director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, has said that promising vaccine was nothing but just another false campaign promise.

Even on October 22, during the final presidential debate, US President had said that a covid-19 vaccine will be announced within weeks to combat the covid-19 disease.

“This has been a worldwide problem, but I’ve been congratulated by many countries on what we’ve been able to do,” he had said. ‘We have a vaccine that’s coming, it’s ready. It’s going to be announced within weeks and it’s going to be delivered,” he had said.

Meanwhile, his democratic rival, Joe Biden has said that Trump has no plan.

“He always says people are learning to live with it. People are learning to die with it,” he said. “I will take care of this. I will make sure we have a plan,” the former vice president said.

As of now, more than 91 million registered voters have already cast their votes while Joe Biden and Donald Trump continue their campaigns to woo last few voters.

Meanwhile, US is currently grappling with covid-19 peak as it continues to record over 90,000 cases in a single day. In a recent study, researchers have cited that by Feb 2021, the US would have over 4 lakh people dead owing to covid-19 infection. As of now, 236, 473 people have died due to the novel virus in the country.

Baba ka Dhaba owner files case against YouTuber for misappropriation of funds

Baba Ka Dhaba, owned by an elderly couple, rose to fame after a YouTuber, Gaurav Wasan, shared a tearful video of how the covid-19 lockdown has affected their business.
The video became an instant hit among netizens and the couple received nationwide love along with financial help.

Kanta Prasad, 80, has now filed a complaint against Wasan for misappropriation of funds, police said on Sunday.

In his complaint to police, Prasad said that Wasan shot his video and posted it online and convinced the public to visit his eatery. He further alleged that Wasan “intentionally and deliberately shared only his and his family/friends bank details and mobile numbers with the donors and collected a huge amount of donation through different modes of payments i.e bank account/wallets without providing any information to the complainant”.

The owner of the food joint also alleged that the YouTuber did not provide details of any financial transactions to him.

“We received the complaint yesterday at the Malviya Nagar Police Station and the matter is being probed. No FIR has been registered yet in the case,” Atul Kumar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said.

Wasan has denied the allegations and said he transferred all the money into Prasad’s account: “When I shot the video, I didn’t know it would become this big. I didn’t want people to harass Baba (Prasad) so I shared my bank details…”

Wasan has also shared three receipts of the transactions, all dated October 27 — two cheques of Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 2,33,000 and one receipt of bank payment of Rs 45,000.

He further said that he has also put up a bank statement on Facebook wherein he shared the total collection in the three days.

Meanwhile, few YouTubers have also alleged that Wasan received 20-25 lakh while he has only submitted around Rs 3-5 lakh to the couple’s account.

Wasan has warned legal allegations against the YouTubers.

EC postpones Council Poll Counting in Karnataka

The counting of votes for four legislative council seats in Karnataka that went to polls last week has been postponed to November 10.

In exercise of the powers vested under Article 324 of the Constitution read with section 153 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the EC made the amendment in its previous notification about conducting the biennial elections.

The counting of votes was due to be held on November 2, according to the previous notification. The MLC elections had seen a decent voter turnout of 71.1% on Wednesday during the elections to four legislative council seats.

The polling percentage in the North East Teachers (Kalaburagi) was 73.32%, Bangalore Teachers (Bangalore) was 66%, South East Graduate (Bangalore) was 75% and West Graduate (Belgaum) was 70.11%.

EC directed the chief electoral commission of Karnataka to bring the change in dates to the notice of all returning officers, observers, candidates and all concerned, and wide publicity be given about the changes.

The notification stated that the Congress submitted a memorandum on Saturday to the Commission, requesting for the postponement of counting of votes to a date after November 3 in view of the polling for by-elections to Sira and Rajarajeshwarinagar Assembly Constituencies that will be held on that day.

Covid-19 update: India reports 45,231 cases, 470 fatalities in last 24-hour

India reported 45,231 new cases of covid-19 and 470 fatalities in the last 24-hour, as per the latest update by the Union health ministry. Total active cases in the country currently stand at 5,70,458 while recoveries have reached 74,91,513.

With the fresh new additions, India’s total cases surge to 82,29,313 while death toll has mounted to 1,22,607.

Total 11,07,43,103 samples tested for Covid-19 up to 1st November. Of these, 8,55,800 samples were tested yesterday: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

*Britain’s Prince William had contracted covid-19 infection in April. According to The Sun newspaper, an unidentified palace source said William kepy his telephone and video engagements while covid-19 rampant in his body as he didn’t want anyone to worry.

*Brazil registered 190 deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total fatality toll to 160,074, the Ministry of Health said Sunday.

*Mainland China reports 24 new Covid-19 cases, same as day earlier while the fatality toll remain unchanges, said health authotities.

*The one-month lockdown for England announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson this weekend could be extended as the country struggles in maintianing the second wave of covid-19 infections.

*Delhi’s total tally reached over 3.92 lakh as it recorded 5,664 new cases of covid-19.

*3,652 new Covid-19 cases and 24 deaths reported in Karnataka, taking the tally to 8,27,064, reports PTI.

*Maharashtra records 5,369 new Covid-19 cases, tally rises to 16,83,775, reports PTI.

*The COVID-19 tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 4,340 on Monday as eight more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said.

*World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus informed on Sunday that he had been in contact of someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Therefore, he will be under quarantine for next 14-days.

*Russia registered a record daily increase of 18,665 COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the country’s COVID-19 response center said.

Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 46.4 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 1,199,500, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Monday morning, the total caseload and death toll stood at 46,420,940 and 1,199,501.

Top commander known as ‘Doctor of terror’ of Hizbul Mujahedeen is killed by security forces

The top commander of the terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen Saifullah Mir was shot dead during an encounter in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. After the joint operation of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF, this success has been achieved.

Saifullah Mir alias Ghazi Haider aka Doctor Saheb joined Hizbul Mujahideen in October 2014 and hailed from Malangpora in Pulwama. He was recruited by Riyaz Naiku and named Ghazi Hyder. He took over the leadership of Hizbul Mujahideen after Riyaz Naiku was killed in an encounter in May this year.

Saifullah topped the list of Kashmir’s top 10 wanted terrorists. This list was recently prepared by security agencies. He was also wanted in several cases of terrorist attacks.

Hindu Sena defaces India Islamic Cultural Centre signboard

Fringe right-wing group Hindu Sena defaced the signboard of the India Islamic Cultural Centre in Delhi, by plastering “Jihadi Terrorist Islamic Centre” posters on it.

Police said the posters, declaring “Jihadi Terrorist Islamic Centre”, were removed immediately and an FIR registered against unknown persons at the Tughlak Road station after the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) reported the matter.

“We have registered a case under Section 3 of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act against unknown people. We are scanning CCTV cameras installed in and around the vicinity but have not found any relevant footage,” a senior police officer said.

Hindu Sena representative Bam Bam Thakur told that some members of the group gathered outside the centre, located in Lodhi Colony of Central Delhi, at 9.30 am and vandalised the signboard. “We do not know who took it off, but we definitely went there and put it up today,” Thakur said. “The image has not been photoshopped or anything.”

Gupta claimed that the “Islamic Cultural Centre is not Indian culture”.

“Our Hindu Sena workers did this. They felt angry about how so many in India are openly supporting terror attacks. People here are coming out on the streets in thousands and defending those jihadis,” Vishnu Gupta, president of the Hindu Sena, told ThePrint.

Gupta added that he referred to the protests that took place in Bhopal and Mumbai, last week, against French President Emmanuel Macron’s comments defending the right to publish cartoons of Prophet Muhammad.

India on Sunday opposed Pakistan’s move to grant provisional provincial status to Gilgit-Baltistan, saying the government firmly rejected Islamabad’s attempts to bring material changes to a part of Indian territory, “under its illegal and forcible occupation”.

The statment comes after the Imran Khan government announced the provisional provincial status for Gilgit-Baltistan.

India said Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh, including Gilgit-Baltistan, are an integral part of India by virtue of the legal, complete and irrevocable accession of Jammu and Kashmir to the Union of India in 1947.

In a press conference the MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, “Pakistan has no locus standi on territories illegally and forcibly occupied by it.”

“Such attempts by Pakistan, intended to camouflage its illegal occupation, cannot hide the grave human rights violations, exploitation and denial of freedom for over seven decades to the people residing in these Pakistan occupied territories,” Srivastava said.

“Instead of seeking to alter the status of these Indian territories, we call upon Pakistan to immediately vacate all areas under its illegal occupation, he said.

The Allahabad High Court has said that conversion to marriage only is not valid. Dismissing the plea of the couple of opposite religion, the court has allowed the petitioners to appear before the concerned magistrate and record their statement. The petitioner had demanded the High Court to ban the family members from interfering in their peaceful marital life. The court has refused to intervene on this petition. This order has been given by Justice MC Tripathi on the petition of Priyanshi alias Samreen and others.

The court has said that one of the petitioners is a Muslim and the other is a Hindu. The girl accepted Hinduism on 29 June 2020 and got married a month later on 31 July. The court said that it is clear from the record that conversion has been done to get married. The court cited the decision of the Nur Jahan Begum case in which the court said that it is not acceptable to change religion for marriage. In this case, the Hindu girl changed her religion and married a Muslim boy.

In Noor Jahan Begum’s case, the Allahabad High Court dismissed the plea seeking protection for the married couple because the girl was a Hindu in this case and she married after converting to Islam. In that case, the court asked, “Is it lawful for a Hindu girl to convert only for the purpose of marriage at the behest of a Muslim boy without knowledge of Islam or faith and belief in it?” The court had answered no at that time.

On this, the court, citing the 2014 Nur Jahan case, said that changing the religion for mere marriage is not acceptable.

James Bond actor Sir Sean Connery dies at the age of 90

Legendary actor Sir Sean Connery has passed away at the age of 90, official James Bond account on Twitter informed. The news of his death was also shared by his family without citing the cause of the death.

Connery is popularly known as for his iconic character, James Bond. The Scottish actor had an active career of five decades in Hollywood.

He rose to fame with James Bond in 1963 and went on to work in “From Russia With Love” (1963), “Goldfinger” (1964), “Thunderball” (1965), “You Only Live Twice” (1967), “Diamonds Are Forever” (1971) and “Never Say Never Again” (1983).

Born on August 25, 1930, Connery’s family wasn’t well off. His mother worked as cleaning lady and father plugged away in a factory. After leaving his studies at the age of 14, Connery took number of jobs including truck driver to milkman.

Even after his breakthrough in Hollywood, Connery’s physical presence was charismatic. His magnetism did not die even at the age of 59 when People magazine declared him the “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1989.

For his role of Jimmy Malone in Brian De Palma’s “The Untouchables”, Sean Connery won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor. He also begged two Bafta awards and three Golden Globes in his career.

First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon paid her tribute on social media, saying that Scotland was in pain.
