Big B to become first bollywood voice of Alexa

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan will be the first Indian celebrity to lend his voice to Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant starting next year, as the Silicon Valley giant expands its presence in the massive market.

Talking about the collaboration, Amitabh Bachchan said in a statement, “Technology has always given me an opportunity to adapt to new forms. Be it in movies, TV shows, podcasts and now, I am excited to create this voice experience in partnership with Amazon and Alexa. With voice technology, we are building something to engage more effectively with my audience and well-wishers.”

India is a key growth market for Amazon outside the US, as the e-commerce platform is most popular in Germany and other European countries at the moment. But India’s strong smartphone adoption and the growing purchasing power of its large population make it integral to Amazon’s worldwide expansion over the next decade, particularly around voice interfaces for shopping and web navigation.

Amazon Alexa team is said to be working closely with Bachchan to capture his voice to deliver a unique experience to customers. It will include popular offerings like jokes, weather, poetry, motivational quotes, advice and more.

Amazon users in India will be able to access Bachchan’s voice on Alexa by purchasing the ‘Amitabh Bachchan voice experience’. The details of the package are yet to be revealed by Amazon.

Amazon India’s Alexa experiences leader Puneesh Kumar added: “Mr Bachchan’s voice is truly memorable for any Indian who has grown-up with Bollywood. This combination delivers a perfect pitch to further delight and simplifies the lives of our customers. We are excited to see how our customers will respond when they use Alexa and hear his voice.”

Shenzen-based company monitoring over 10,000 Indians

In a shocking revelation, it has come to light that a Shenzen-based company named Zhenhua Data Information Technology Co. Limited is monitoring over 10,000 Indian individuals and organisations.

The range of targets in India identified and monitored in real time by Zhenhua Data Information Technology Co. Limited is sweeping — in both breadth and depth.

PM Modi, the Chinese company is also keeping an eye on President Ram Nath Kovind, Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi and their families; Chief Ministers Mamata Banerjee, Ashok Gehlot and Amarinder Singh, Uddhav Thackeray, Naveen Patnaik and Shivraj Singh Chouhan; Cabinet Ministers Rajnath Singh and Ravi Shankar Prasad to Nirmala Sitharaman, Smriti Irani, and Piyush Goyal; Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Singh Rawat to at least 15 former Chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force; Chief Justice of India Sharad Bobde and brother judge AM Khanwilkar to Lokpal Justice P C Ghose and Comptroller and Auditor General G C Murmu; start-up tech entrepreneurs like Nipun Mehra, founder of Bharat Pe (an Indian payment app), and Ajay Trehan of AuthBridge, an authentication technology firm, to top industrialists Ratan Tata and Gautam Adani.

Besides the ministers, it has also been learnt that the Chinese firm is monitoring bureaucrats in key positions, judges, scientists and academicians; journalists, actors and sportspersons, religious figures and activists, said the report.

The daily stated that it investigated meta data from Zhenhua’s operations using big-data tools to extract Indian entities from the massive pile of log files that constituted the company’s Overseas Key Information Database (OKIDB). This database uses advanced language, targeting and classification tools to include hundreds of entries without any explicit markers.

India says China laying cables to bolster communications amid border tension

Indian officials said Chinese troops were laying a network of optical fibre cables at a western Himalayan flashpoint with India, suggesting they were digging in for the long haul despite high-level talks aimed at resolving a standoff there.

Such cables, which would provide forward troops with secure lines of communication to bases in the rear, have recently been spotted to the south of Pangong Tso Lake in the Himalayan region of Ladakh, a senior government official said.

“They have been laying optical fibre cables on the southern bank at breakneck speed,” an official was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the parliament on the India-China border row and has said that China does not “recognise the current boundary. We have been following the customary line that was agreed upon in the 1960s. But China does not agree to this now and says that both sides have different perspectives of this line.”

In June, China and India were engaged in a violent face-off in Galwan Valley. Chinese troops killed 20 Indian soldiers in a premeditated move and the clash was the first deadly confrontation between the two countries in 45 years.

While the Chinese side is thought to have suffered 43 casualties in the Galwan face-off, the number could exceed 60, according to Paskal.

Delhi Model for treatment of covid-19 is being discussed across the world: Arvind Kejriwal

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday appreciated the Delhi Model to contain the covid-19 for its fight against the novel virus, while mentioning that the national capital has performed most number of tests to detect the infection in comparison to the every city in the world. 3057 tests are conducted per million population in Delhi, the Chief Minister said.

Addressing a special one-day session of the Delhi Assembly, Mr Kejriwal said that 2 crore people of Delhi have shown the way to the whole world in many aspects and mentioned that it was Delhi who was introduced the ideo of home quarantine.

The CM recalled the initial days of virus, after the first case of the coronavirus infection was reported on March 2. He said that Delhi was one of the worst hit cities in the country as 32,000 people landed in the capital from other countries.

“And you can perceive, most of these people must have already been infected. There were 5,000 to 6000 cases in Delhi when the pandemic started,” he said.

Mr Kejriwal said that the aggressive and effective testing in the national capital has worked along with its model of “test, treat, track and isolate”.

“Today, the maximum number of tests, across the world, is conducted by Delhi. Around 60,000 tests are conducted daily, which is 3,000 tests per million people…while the national average is 819,” the chief minister said.

Expressing gratitude towards the Centre for their considerable contribution in Delhi’s fight against coronavirus, the CM said that Delhi could not have handled it alone.

“I want to thank the Centre for helping us whenever we needed them. They gave us PPE kits, oxygen cylinders and testing kits. No government can handle it alone. The society came forward to help us, the two crore people of Delhi, many social organizations, many doctors’ associations helped us. An NGO StepOne helped us, religious organizations such as Radhaswami Satsang and Jain Dharamshala helped us,” he said.

Kejriwal compared Delhi with other countries and asserted that no other state or city in the world has tested 10% of its total population. “We have tested around 2.1 million people in Delhi until now, which is 11% of Delhi’s two crore population,” he said.

“We have treated around 115254 people in home isolation until now, out of which 16568 people are still in home isolation and 96288 people have recovered. Only 30 people have died out of 1.25 lakh people in home isolation, which is 0.03% and is most probably the least in the world. Many countries have praised the home isolation model of Delhi, even the ambassador of Korea is studying the home isolation model of Delhi,” he added.

The Chief Minister then thanked Corona warriors for their ruthless fight against the coronavirus and said that if anything happens to them, the state government will provide every possible help to their families.

“We have given confidence to Corona warriors that the whole country and the government is with you. We salute your hard work. If anything unfortunate happens with you, we will give an honorary compensation of Rs 1 crore to your family. When we announced this, the doctors and nurses gained confidence that the government is with us. I do not think no state or nation is doing this,” he mentioned.

Talking about the introduction of plasma therapy, which has turned out to be a blessing for critically ill covid patients, n Delhi, the CM said they picked up the idea from China.

“In April or May, we conducted plasma therapy trials. We read that it was happening in China, we asked for permission from the Centre and we got the permissions for Phase 1, 2, and 3. I am happy that the world’s first plasma bank was set up in ILBS hospital in Delhi. The work that we started in April and May, the President of the USA Donald Trump allowed that on August 19, 2020. Around 1965 people were given plasma in Delhi. I am happy that the people of Delhi are getting a chance to serve the people of the nation,” Mr Kejriwal said.

Happy Birthday Subramanian Swamy

The man who has got enough guts, courage and knowledge to challenge and change the system; to speak up the truth irrespective of the party line, Dr.Subramanian Swamy turns 81 today.

The leader of the Opposition also admits the logical ability of Subramanian Swamy, who played an important role in the Ram temple construction case in Ayodhya.

In a TV program, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Awaisi had said that his own party members are also afraid of Swami Saheb because they do not know when he should speak against his own party.

Swamy was born in Mylapore, Chennai,  Tamil Nadu, India, to a family which hailed originally from Madurai in Tamil Nadu. He identifies him as a Brahmin. His father, Sitarama Subramanian, was a bureaucrat and his mother, Padmavathi, was a homemaker.

Swamy is an Indian politician, economist and statistician. Before joining politics, he was a professor of Mathematical Economics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

On Tuesday, Swamy shared a letter sent to him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday.

Swamy posted the letter on his Twitter handle and said that it was nice of the Prime Minister to greet him using appropriate Sanskrit saying. In the letter, PM Modi had extended his heartiest greetings to Dr Swamy, adding that he hopes Swamy continues to use his ‘rich and diverse’ experience in public life towards the efforts of ‘nation-building.’

The Prime Minister had written a Sanskrit saying, “prarthayamahe bhava shatayushi ishvaras-sada tvam cha rakshatu“, which roughly translates to “May you live 100 years and May God protect you”.  Subramanian Swamy turned 81 on September 15, Tuesday.

Here, are some moments of Subramanian Swamy;

US upgrades travel advisory; China safe to travel

The United States on Monday said that it has revised advisory for Americans considering travel to China, upgrading its advice from a blanket warning not to go to the country.

However, the country has still urged people to reconsider their travel as it fears arbitrary arrest in China following enforcement of the new security law.

The US, while easing the traveling advisory, acknowledged that China has made considerable progress against the Covid-19 virus despite being the epicenter of it.

The People’s Republic of China “has resumed most business operations (including day cares and schools),” the State Department said.

“Other improved conditions have been reported within the PRC,” it said.

The revised travel advisory comes a day after Chinese President Xi Jinping honoured the medical professional for their agile fight against the novel virus, mentioning country has definitely defeated the virus.

The Chinese government on Monday informed that it is compiling a database of technologies that can be used to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, the relationship between China and US continue to remain sour with both the countries dissenting each other. The Trump administration, which has been receiving worldwide flak for its management of the pandemic, has accused China of starting the pandemic.

Hong Kong virologist Dr Li Meng-Yan claims coronavirus was created in a lab in Wuhan

A Chinese virologist Dr Li Meng-Yan in the channel’s ‘Loose Women’ segment, claims that the new coronavirus was created in a lab in Wuhan.

‘Loose Women’ is a weekly chat show where women from different fields are called to discuss their work.

On September 11, she participated in an interview from a secret location and talked about her research on the coronavirus disease and the challenges she has been facing.

She has vowed to publish proof that backs up her allegations. Dr Li Meng-Yan, a researcher at the Hong Kong School of Public Health, had previously accused Beijing of covering up the outbreak in Wuhan.

She claimed that during her investigation on Pneumonia in Wuhan, she got to know about coronavirus and found that there was no response from the World Health Organisation when coronavirus was reported. The Chinese officials ignored her warnings despite being aware of the danger the world was about to face.

She further alleged that China knew that the coronavirus was capable of human-to-human transmission and SARS CoV-2 is a high mutant virus that will take the face of a pandemic if left uncontrolled.

Li had fled to the US from Hong Kong earlier this year and also alleged that China tried to suppress her voice.

Asked whether she was worried about her safety after fleeing Hong Kong, the doctor remarked she wanted to deliver the message as soon as possible to the world.

“It was very scary at that time. But I had to do it because I am a doctor and I cannot see it happen. If I do not tell the truth to the world, I will be regretful. So, this foundation which is based in New York, helped me to secretly leave Hong Kong. They help people who are against the Chinese government,” she added.

The virologist said she is working on a scientific report since January, along with few top scientists and will soon publish the outcomes. “We are going to publish it. There are two reports, the first one will come in several days and it will tell people about the scientific evidence,” she said.

Talking about the unpublished research, she said, “The genome sequence is like our human fingerprint. So, based on this you can recognise and identify this thing. So, I used the evidence existing in the genome sequence of Sars-CoV-2 to tell people why this came from China, why they are the only one who made it.”

She also explained that anyone, even those without any knowledge of biology, can read it. “You can check, identify and verify it by yourself. It is a critical thing for us to know the origins of the virus. If not, it will be life-threatening for everyone,” she added.

There were rumors of the outrage between Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik, since last season of the Indian Premier League. Last year during a press conference Andre Russell pointed a few things which went wrong from the skipper’s side.

Later on Dinesh Karthik’s also assured that the things are now normal between them and they want to help KKR side for their growth in the tournament.

The team mentor David Hussey also stated that there is no such rift between the two senior players of KKR and both of them want to work for the betterment of the team.

“There is no rift or anything there. Actually, I think there is a bit of bromance there, and they are pretty close, which is fantastic for the group. Karthik is a straightforward person who backs his teammates to get the job done. It’s a good sign of leadership. He is high maintenance at times because he loves the game of cricket. There is no malice… he only cares about winning the game,” said David Hussey as quoted on Indian Express.

This time KKR has roped in England’s World Cup captain Eoin Morgan in their side who may get chance to bat at Number 3.

“Morgan is a classy-middle order player. Along with DK, I am sure it will be a fantastic partnership on the field. DK from behind the stumps and Morgan can be sort of the vice-captain and help the bowlers out in certain situations. He will fit in perfectly,” Hussey concluded.

The 13th edition of IPL will start on September 19 and Kolkata Knight Riders will surge the field to register their 3rd IPL win.
