Virat has to win the World Cup to prove his captaincy: Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar has said that if Virat Kohli has to prove himself, he will have to prove his captaincy. Since 2016 Virat emerged as the most successful captain and in this time he also became the most successful Test captain for the Indian team by overshadowing the legendary MS Dhoni. In a recent interview, Sunil Gavaskar believes that the Delhi-born cricketer must earn the World Cup to strengthen his legacy.

Virat Kohli entered his first 50-over World Cup as captain in the 2019 World Cup, his team also consists of many other big players of the Indian cricket; MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul. Team India topped the group stage on the basis of their performance, causing England the only a single loss. However, his team was eliminated from the tournament in the semi-finals, losing to New Zealand in a low-scoring game. The brilliant pair of Kohli and Rohit Sharma failed to something great in that semi-final.

Sunil Gavaskar admitted that a captain gets recognition from the World Championship/World Cup. He acknowledged that winning the Asia Cup is a great achievement; however, the leader needs to conquer the world and this is the way he evolves.

The 70-year-old said that “The top 3 batsmen of Team India are the best in the world, although many batsmen here have not got a chance to prove themselves in the middle order. Therefore, when the top three are shattered in a big match, we cannot blame the middle order.”

Gavaskar said that “You have a strong top three, but if the middle order is weak then you can fail on the big occasion as it happened in the World Cup, so we have to strengthen the middle with the top as well.”

Kohli has been a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) since the beginning of the IPL. He scored 246 runs in 16 matches at an average of 22.36 and a half-century in South Africa in 2009 and 105 from five matches in the UAE in 2014. In 9 innings he played in this tournament, he was successful in scoring 254 runs with the help of two half-centuries.

Rohit has 4,898 runs in 188 matches at an average of 31.60 in IPL, including a century and 36 half-centuries. He is third in the list of batsmen in the tournament after Kohli and Suresh Raina (5368). Rohit scored 446 of these runs on foreign soil.

Rohit was a part of Deccan Chargers in 2009 and then in South Africa, he scored 362 runs in 16 matches with the help of a half-century. Five years later, in the UAE, however, he was able to score 84 runs in five matches for Mumbai Indians. It also includes an innings of 50 runs played against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In this way, Rohit was able to score only 34 runs in the remaining four matches. Then in the second leg played at home, he improved his record by scoring 306 runs in ten matches.

Manish Sisodia :”Centre Playing With Students’ Lives”

As students wants to cancel the NEET medical entrance exam and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission into the IITs, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on urged centre to rethink the decision “make alternate arrangement”. As India’s coronavirus cases passed 30 lakh, Mr Sisodia tweeted that “centre is playing with students’ lives”.

“In the 21st century, we can’t find an alternative to an entrance exam. This is not possible. The government’s intent should be to think about the welfare of students… There can be a thousand safer alternatives to NEET-JEE,” Mr Sisodia wrote in Hindi.

In another post, he said: “The thought process that NEET-JEE is the only alternative is an impractical thought. Worldwide, education systems are adopting new methods… why can’t we do it in India? It’s not wise to put students’ lives at stake for an entrance test.”

“Centre is playing with the lives of lakhs of students in the name of NEET-JEE entrance. I appeal to the centre that the entrance exams should be scrapped across the country and make an alternate arrangement. At the time of unprecedented crisis, only an unprecedented move will be able to find a solution,” he added.

The two exams are scheduled to be conducted in September.

Admit cards for the JEE (Main) exam have already been issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and around 6.5 lakh students (of the nearly 8.6 lakh who had registered) have downloaded them, according to sources.

Trump Says: ‘We Don’t Have to do Business With China’

US President Donald Trump, in a Fox News interview raised the possibility of decoupling the U.S. economy from China, a major purchaser of US goods.

Trump initially told interviewer Steve Hilton “we don’t have to” do business with China, and then later said about decoupling: “Well it’s something that if they don’t treat us right I would certainly, I would certainly do that.”

However Trump entered into a high-stakes trade war with China before reaching a partial Phase 1 trade deal in January.

Kanye West strengthens his Presidential Campaign, files to appear on Louisiana ballot

After announcing his presidential bid on Independence Day in June, rapper Kanye West on Friday filed paperwork to appear on the Louisiana ballot in November election.

West, who filed the paperwork just ahead of the deadline, has announced himself as a candidate of ‘The Birthday Party’ along with declaring Michelle Tidball as his running mate.

Besides West, 10 more third-party or independent presidential candidates have filed to appear on the Louisiana ballot.

Kanye West have been proposing the idea of running for US President for years now, while many of the US citizens considered it merely a publicity stunt, the rapper on July 4 shocked one and all by announcing his bid in a tweet. His campaign submitted papers to the Federal Election Commission to run within two weeks of his announcement.

However, his campaign has failed to meet deadlines to make it on the presidential ballot in several other states, including Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, Louisiana officials have not reviewed filings yet. The state, unlike others, does not require independent candidates to collect thousands of signatures to file a nomination to appear on the ballot.

As per a report of The Advocate, West in his filing listed a post box office in Cody, Wyoming, as his campaign’s address. His running mate, Tidball, who is a self-described “biblical life coach” resides in Wyoming, moreover, West also owns a mansion in the state.

West, who is a dedicated Trump supporter, said in an interview earlier this month he’s “not denying” that his campaign seeks to hurt Biden’s presidential bid.

Thousands gather for pool party in Wuhan, the former epicentre of covid-19 pandemic

Wuhan, the former epicentre of novel coronavirus, now seems to have completely gotten over the Covid-19 pandemic. While the world continues to maintain social distancing as a mean to combat the virus, thousands were able to gather for a pool party without any precautionary measures whatsoever in Wuhan.

In a very unconventional 2020 way, Wuhan hosted HOHA Water Electrical Musical Festival over the weekend and images from the event clearly show that it was one of a kind cheerful weekend.

While thousands of people wearing swimsuits crammed into the Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park, others were spotted hanging out at the bar. The massive pool party, completed with a DJ on turntables, had people dancing to the toe in colourful attires.

As per the reports, the visitors were given temperature and security checks on arrival.

In Wuhan, life has gradually gone back to normal after 76- day strict lockdown in early April. In mid-May, the city had recorded six new cases in a residential community and rolled out a quick contact tracing program. And not to much surprise, they clearly succeeded in their technique as the city hasn’t registered any new case since then. They tested more than 6.5 million people in just nine days. That’s a huge number if we compare it to the number of samples tested in India, which is now the third-worst hit country by the pandemic.

However, Sanjaya Senanayake, associate professor in infectious diseases at the Australian National University, cautions that even though most of Wuhan’s citizens have been tested, the risk of transmission is still alive. “The problem is we haven’t eradicated Covid-19, and what that means is that as long as its not eradicated, there’s still the risk of having it introduced, whether from overseas or elsewhere,” he told the BBC.

Wuhan’s lockdown began to ease in March and was officially lifted on April 8. There have been over 89,400 cases of coronavirus reported in China with 4,703 casualties.

India Rejects Reference To Jammu And Kashmir In China-Pak Statement

India has rejected the reference to the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir in the joint press release of the China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue issued on Friday and reiterated its concerns on the projects in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor that fall in Pak-occupied-Kashmir.

“The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India and we expect the parties concerned to not to interfere in matters that are internal affairs of India,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said.

A joint statement issued after the Wang-Qureshi talks said the Pakistani side briefed the Chinese delegation on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, including its concerns, position and current urgent issues.

“The Chinese side reiterated that the Kashmir issue is a dispute left over from history between India and Pakistan, which is an objective fact, and that the dispute should be resolved peacefully and properly through the U.N. Charter, relevant Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreements. China opposes any unilateral actions that complicate the situation,” according to the joint statement.

Mr Srivastava in response said, “India has repeatedly conveyed its concerns to both China and Pakistan on the projects in so-called China Pakistan Economic Corridor, which are in the territory of India that has been illegally occupied by Pakistan.”

The Pakistan foreign minister went to China after receiving little comfort from Saudi Arabia and OIC regarding taking up the Kashmir issue at the international level.

Beijing had adopted issued a similar position immediately after New Delhi scrapped Kashmir’s special status in August last year. Since then, China has also sought to raise the Kashmir issue at the UN Security Council on Pakistan’s behalf several times, but without much success.

Rahul Gandhi launches fresh attack on government over Rafale deal; BJP hits back

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has repeatedly accused the Centre of corruption in the Rafale jet deal on Saturday made a fresh attack on the government over the Rafale fighter aircraft deal, prompting Union Minister Piyush Goyal to hit back saying he is welcome to fight the 2024 general elections on the issue.

Gandhi quoted a source-based news report which claimed that the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has submitted its performance audit on defence offset contracts to the government with no mention of any offset deals related to the purchase of Rafale aircraft.

“Money was stolen from the Indian exchequer in Rafale,” Gandhi alleged in his tweet without elaborating.

In a sharp retort, Goyal, who is Railway Minister and a senior BJP leader, claimed that many in the Congress have confided that Gandhi’s obsession with Rafale is damaging the party.

“Many of Rahul Gandhi’s Congress colleagues confide in private that Rahul’s obsession with Rafale to wash off his father’s sins is damaging the party. But if someone is wanting to self-destruct, who are we to complain? We invite him to fight the 2024 elections on Rafale,” Goyal tweeted.

Reacting to the controversy, Sitharaman said the CAG report on Defence Offset Performance will be tabled in the forthcoming session of Parliament.

As per the report, the Defence Ministry told the CAG that Dassault would be sharing details related to offset contracts only after three years of the deal. Notably, Reliance Defence of Anil Ambani group had bagged an offset contract as part of the Rafale fighter jets deal.

India last month received its first batch of new multi-role fighter aircraft in two decades with the arrival of five Rafale jets.

The Rafale is a twin-jet fighter aircraft able to operate from both an aircraft carrier and a shore base. The fully versatile Rafale is able to carry out all combat aviation missions

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi asked Centre three questions on Rafale after first batch of fighter jets lands in India, he repeated the questions that he had asked the government ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
