Twitter takes action against Trump’s tweet for ‘misleading health claims’

Twitter on Sunday assigned a public interest notice to President Trump’s tweet for “making misleading health claims that could potentially dissuade people from participation in voting.”

Trump, in his tweet, had claimed that mail drop boxes are “voter security disaster” as they are not covid-sanitized.

“So now the democrats are using Mail Drop Boxes, which are a voter security disaster. Among other things, they make it possible for a person to vote multiple times. Also, who controls them, are they places in Republican or Democrat areas? They are not covid sanitized,” he had tweeted.

Hours after Trump tweeted, Twitter took action, stating, “We placed a public interest notice on this Tweet for violating our Civic Integrity Policy for making misleading health claims that could potentially dissuade people from participation in voting.”

After this action from Twitter, users won’t be able to like, reply or retweet the tweet.

Trump’s claim has been quashed by US scientists who said people are unlikely to catch the coronavirus from touching such a box. Moreover, to avoid any possibility, people can just sanitize their hands after touching the mail boxes.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that the main way to infect covid-19 is by coming in direct contact with the person positive for the virus. They also said while it is possible to catch the infection from a surface, this is still not the primary cause of spread.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Twitter and Facebook had blocked a video shared by the account linked to Trump for spreading misinformation regarding the coronavirus. The president then had said he was being unnecessarily targeted.

Kim Jong un in coma, his sister to take control; claims South Korean diplomat

The rumours of deteriorating health condition of North Korean leader Kim Jong un have once again intensified after a South Korean diplomat, Chang Song-Min, who was an assistant to late president Kim Dae-Jung, claimed that Kim is in Coma and that’s the reason his sister Kim Yo-jong has been assigned the authority.

“I assess him to be in a coma, but his life has not ended. A complete succession structure has not been formed, so Kim Yo-jong is being brought to the fore as the vacuum cannot be maintained for a prolonged period,” Chang said in an interview according to a report by South Korean media.

Earlier Chang has said that Kim Jong Un is bed-ridden and unable to rule. Reiterating his statement, he has claimed that as per information received from China, the photos that were released earlier by North Korean Media in recent months are fake.

South Korea’s intelligence agency had earlier claimed that Kim Jong Un’s sister Kim Yo-jong has been given the power and is serving as his “de facto second-in-command” but has not been designated his successor yet.

Another South Korean leader told reporters that Kim was helping to run the regime and manage the relations with the US and South Korea with due permission from her brother.

Speculations about Kim Jong-un’s health were rife after rumours suggesting his death due to a failed heart surgery made rounds.

The rumours were also linked with his less public appearances this year as the active North Korean leader was only spotted a handful of times.

The speculations were put to an end when state media in May released images of Kim cutting the ribbon at the opening of a fertiliser factory. However, Chang Song-Min’s sensational claims have once again fueled the rumours.

Nepal: Panel suggests complete five-year term for PM Oli amid intra-party rift

PM K P Oli will complete his five-year tenure amid intra-party rift as suggested by a six-member panel formed by the ruling Nepal Communist Party. Executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ will be allowed to exercise his full executive power, said a senior party leader on Sunday.

The Nepal Communist Party on August 14 formed a six-member task force to resolve the inta-party rift as Oli and Prachanda continued their talks after a week of interruption.

The task force led by General Secreatary Bishnu Poudel was made with the ain to sort out differences in the Party after Prachanda and senior leader asked PM Oli to resign.

The panel includes Standing Committee members Shankar Pokhrel, Janardan Sharma, Bhim Rawal, Surendra Pandey and Pampha Bhusal.

According to senior NCP leader and Standing Committee member Ganesh Shah, the panel has suggested that Prime Minister Oli should continue his full five-year term while Prachanda should exercise his full executive power over the party’s affairs whatsoever.

After Oli was elected prime minister in 2018, he and Prachanda had suggested a pact under which both of them would share the position turn-by-turn. However, the panel has suggested the top leaders to stick to one-man-one-post principle and sort out differences between them by promoting coordination and collaboration.

According to Shah, the report hasn’t been approved in the Standing Committee yet, which is likely to be summoned this week.

A bitter internal rift has taken place inside the ruling NCP party after its top leader, including Prachanda, demanded PM Oli’s resignation, stating his recent remarks against India were “neither politically correct nor diplomatically appropriate.” However, Oli refused to give up his post as the prime minister as well as a co-chairman of NCP.

Military option on the table if talks fail: Rawat on LAC dispute

Amid the India-China border dispute, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat has made a big statement. According to news agency ANI, Rawat clearly said, “If the dispute is not resolved by talks with China, then the military option is also open.” However, efforts are being made to find a solution in peace. “

The talks between the two sides have been going on for the last three months including five Lieutenant General-level talks but have failed to yield any results so far.

According to news agency ANI, General Rawat said, “Transgressions along the LAC occur due to differing perceptions about its alignments. The defence services are tasked to monitor such operations and prevent infiltration.

A governmental approach is adopted to calmly resolve any such activity and prevent infiltration. Defence services are always ready for military options, no attempt to restore the status quo on LAC should be successful”.

The CDS, however, refused to discuss in detail the military options that India could exercise to push back the transgressions by the Chinese Army in Ladakh sector.

The CDS, who was army chief during the 73-day military standoff in Doklam against the PLA in 2017, also dispelled the notion that there is a lack of coordination among the principal intelligence agencies. He said that India has a vast front-line along the northern and western borders along with the Indian Ocean Region, all of which require constant monitoring.

Meanwhile, China has formulated that if the Indian Army steps back from the Finger 4 area of Pangong lake, then the Chinese troops will also step back the same distance.

Champions League: Bayern Munich defeated PSG winner, capture title after 7 years

German club Bayern Munich won the UEFA Champions League 2020 title with the continuation of their excellent performance. Bayern beat Paris Saint Germain (PSG) 1–0 in the finals which held in Lisbon on Sunday. The dream of winning the first title for PSG gets veined. PSG also played their first-ever final in the club history.

With this, Bayern Munich captured the title for the sixth time (1974, 1975, 1976, 2001, 2013, 2020). Lat time they had won this title in 2013.

Kingsley Coman scored the only goal of the title in the 59th minute. The Paris-born Koman scored a header against his former club, he also became the fifth Frenchman to score a goal in the Champions League final.

Bayern Munich beat Lions 3–0 to enter the finals, while in the quarter-finals they beat Spanish club Barcelona 8–2, which was the shame for the Barcelona’s side and the future of veteran Lionel Messi, who is the star player for Barcelona and the Spanish club was questioned.

Neymar, the world’s most expensive footballer, got a big chance to prove himself in the Champions League final, but he could not make his team Paris Saint Germain (PSG) to win in the title. Donald Trump to launch fast-tracking covid-19 vaccine ahead of the US Elections

The Trump Administration is eyeing to launch a fast-tracking covid vaccine before the November 3 elections, the Financial Times reported.

The vaccine developed by AstraZeneca with Oxford University is to be pitched for the use in the US ahead of the elections. Before the launching the vaccine for the public use, Trump would have to seek permission from the US Food and Drug Administration(FDA) for “emergency use autorisation” (EUA) in October. That authorization would be based on the U.K. study that, even if successful, would not meet the requirements for the approval of a vaccine.

Earlier, top administration official in a meeting had told congressional leaders that they were likely to award approval for a vaccine candidate before it conducts phase 3 clinical trials in the United States. The administration officials said that the AstraZeneca vaccine developed with Oxford University was the most likely candidate to get approval, reported FT.

The AstraZeneca has enrolled 10,000 volunteers to study the results of the vaccine. However, the US government’s specific agencies have said that a vaccine should at least be studied among 30,000 people to pass the approval. AstraZeneca will also be conducting a larger trial, but that would be experimented after the results of smaller trial.

Trump’s approach to launch the vaccine ahead of the presidential elections could be his claim to win over the US citizens who have brutally suffered amid the pandemic. However, if the Trump administration rushes to launch the vaccine irrespective of its approval from the FDA, it could dent the already enraged public over safety issues.

The United States remains worst-hit country hit by the coronavirus pandemic with more than 170,000 Americans dead.

Attorney General’s No To Contempt Plea Against Actor Swara Bhasker

Attorney General K K Venugopal has refused give his consent to initiate criminal contempt of court proceedings against actor Swara Bhasker for her alleged “derogatory and scandalous” comments against the Supreme Court over the Ayodhya verdict.

Under the Contempt of Court Act, 1971, consent of the AG or the solicitor general is needed to initiate contempt proceedings against anyone. Venugopal told TOI: “I declined consent as there is no attack on the Supreme Court. It is mere innuendo. Initiating contempt proceedings would mean giving more credence to her statement, which is not needed.”

“In my opinion, this statement does not constitute criminal contempt,” the Attorney General said.

Lawyer Anuj Saxena, on behalf of petitioner Usha Shetty, had sought consent of the Attorney General for initiating contempt action against the actor.

Venugopal, in a two-page letter to Saxena on August 21, said the actor’s “statement in the first part appears to be a factual one, and is a perception of the speaker”.

The plea has alleged that Bhaskar made the statements at a panel discussion on February 1, 2020 organised by ‘Mumbai Collective’.

The statement, was written out in the Attorney General’s letter: “We are living in a country where the Supreme Court states that the demolition of the Babri Masjid was unlawful and, in the same judgment, rewards the same people who brought down the mosque”.

Congress divided over leadership issue ahead of the CWC meeting today

Congress President Sonia Gandhi is once again targeted by her own party as twenty-senior leaders of the congress have written to her, stating the erosion of “drift” and “uncertainty” in the party.

The letter, which was signed by former Chief Ministers and Member of Parliaments including Kapil Sibal, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Shashi Tharoor, Bhupinder Hooda, Milind Deora, Manish Tewari, and PJ Kurein, has sought the complete rehaul of the organisation.

The letter has acknowledged that the youth of the India have undoubtedly chosen Narendra Modi over congress leaders and said that party has lost support base.

Now, in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting today, the party leaders are likely to discuss the leadership as more than 20 leaders in the letter to Sonia Gandhi have demanded sweeping changes, from top to Bottom.

According to a report of Hindustan Times, Sonia Gandhi looks set to announce her decision to step down as the Congress president at CWC.

She responded to the letter a few days ago and said that Congress leaders should get together and find a new face for the party because she herself does not want to carry the responsibility further, the report said.

Now, Congress seems to be divided over the leadership issue as many of the party’s leaders have asked the 73-year-old to hold her position as the interim president.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday slammed the letter sent to Sonia Gandhi and said he wants Mrs Gandhi to continue her position as the chief. However, he also added that if she has already made up her mind to quit, her son Rahul Gandhi must come forward to take the charge.

Ahead of the meeting today, Mahrashtra Congress has also urged Sonia Gandhi to not quit her position and said in case she refuses the request, Rahul Gandhi should must take over.

The senior Congress leaders of Maharashtra have hereby unanimously resolved that Sonia Gandhi should continue as Congress president as it is only because of her leadership our party came in power. She has made several sacrifices to rebuild the party and is still very actively involved in all the decisions pertaining to the party,” reads the statement proposed Balasaheb Thorat, President, Maharashtra PCC and seconded by Ashok Chavan, Maharashtra’ Public Works Department.

Sonia Gandhi became interim president of the Indian National Congress after Rahul Gandhi quit the position in May 2019 following party’s consecutive defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.

As she completes one year as the interim chief, congress has been divided over the issue of leadership with one section urging Rahul Gandhi to take charge while the other demanding major changes in the party.

The Batman trailer: Robert Pattinson is the new caped crusader

The much-anticipated trailer for The Batman was released at Saturday’s DC Fandome event by director Matt Reeves. The titular role in this new DC addition is being played by Twilight star Robert Pattinson who in the trailer seems to have a dark, gritty and violent take on the character.

The trailer of the film has Nirvana’s “Something in the Way” playing in the background. Talking about Batman’s character, Reeves told fans, “it’s about the early days of him being Batman and he’s very far from being perfect. He’s trying to figure out what he can do to change this place. He’s seeing he’s not having any of the effect he wants to have.”

“He’s not a symbol of hope yet. One of the things he has to deal with is how he’s perceived … What was exciting for me was not doing the origin [story] but to meet him in the middle and to see him make mistakes and grow and fail and be heroic in a way that felt very human and very flawed,” he added.

Watch the trailer here:

The Batman is the reiteration of the Caped Crusader and also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.

The film was scheduled to be released on June 21, 2021 but has been postponed in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. The film will now be released on October 1, 2021 in cinemas worldwide.

Before Robert Pattinson, the Batman cape has been donned by the likes of Christian Bale, George Clooney, Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck and Val Kilmer.

Sushant Singh Rajput case: CBI records actor’s flatmate, cook’s statement

The mysterious Sushant Singh Rajput death case has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) now. On Sunday, the CBI began recording statements of Sushant’s housemate Siddharth Pithani, house staff member Dipesh Sawant and cook Neerja Singh in Mumbai’s Santacruz.

As per the report of Times now, the three were called in for another round of investigation at the DRDO guest house as CBI team found differences in their previous statements.

Pithani and Singh are the main witnesses who were present in the house at the time of actor’s death.

“Both Pithani and Singh were inside the house and only they can reveal the entire sequence of events necessary to find out what happened between June 13 and June 14 when Sushant was found dead,” Hindustan Times quoted a person familiar with the probe as saying.

Pithani and Singh’s questioning comes a day after a team of CBI officials and forensic experts visited Sushant’s Bandra home and reenacted the sequence of events before he was found dead.

According to various media reports, Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty, who were among six accused in KK Singh’s FIR in Bihar, will also be quizzed bu the CBI soon.

BJP MLA Neeraj Kumar Singh Babu, the cousin of Sushant Singh Rajput, on Saturday said the investigation by the CBI is going in the right direction while adding Pithani and actor’s friend Sandeep should be arrested by the CBI.

“CBI investigation is going in the right direction. We are hopeful that the guilty will be caught. Siddharth Pithani should definitely be arrested. When we went for the last rites of Sushant, we saw there was no sadness apparent on Pithani’s face. I am suspicious of his activities. He used to be a colleague of Sushant,” Bablu said.

Meanwhile, Sushant’s cook Neeraj Singh, in his statement to Mumbai Police, allegedly said that a couple of days before the actor’s death, he had rolled some marijuana cigarettes for the actor. When Neeraj checked the box on June 14, after the actor’s death, he said that he found it empty.

He said, “In April 2019 I worked as part of housekeeping staff. I came to work from reference from another known person of Sushant Singh Sir. I got the job here. I fell ill and then I left work. Then again, I joined back after few days. In May 2019 itself, Sushant’s manager, Samuel Miranda, contacted me and called me back to work.

He had also mentioned that sometimes he would hear strange noises in the house even when no one was around and Sushant was asleep.

“Sushant sir would party once or twice every week with Anandi, Rhea, and Ayush at home. He would consume liquor and Marijuana cigarettes during those parties. Samuel Jacob would roll the joints for Sushant sir. Sometimes I would roll the joints for him. Before Sushant sir committed suicide, I rolled the marijuana cigarettes for him for three days which were kept in a cigarette case in a cupboard near staircase. After Sushant sir’s suicide, I saw that the marijuana cigarettes box was empty.”

“Sir was not keeping well since past five to six months. I feel that was the reason that he committed suicide,” he added.
