SpaceX capsule and NASA crew make first splashdown in 45 years

Two NASA astronauts returned to Earth on Sunday, retro-style splashdown, their capsule parachuting into the Gulf of Mexico to close out an unprecedented test flight by Elon Musk’s SpaceX company.

Notably, it was the first splashdown by U.S. astronauts in last 45 years. Now with the first commercially built and operated spacecraft to carry people to and from orbit. The return clears the way for another SpaceX crew launch as early as next month and possible tourist flights next year.

“Welcome back to planet Earth, and thanks for flying SpaceX,” said Mission Control from SpaceX headquarters.

“It’s a little bit overwhelming to see everybody here considering the things that have gone on the last few months since we’ve been off planet,” Mr. Hurley said after arriving back home in Houston on Sunday evening, where they were greeted by a small masked-gathering of family and officials, including Mr. Musk.

“I’m not very religious, but I prayed for this one,” he said.

“We are entering a new era of human spaceflight where NASA is no longer the purchaser, owner and operator of all the hardware. We’re going to be a customer — one customer of many,” Mr. Bridenstine said from Johnson Space Center in Houston. “I would love to see a fleet of crew Dragons servicing not just the International Space Station but also commercial space stations.”

SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell called the mission a springboard to “doing even harder things,” like collaborating on astronaut flights to the moon and then Mars.

“There’s no question, it was an enormous relief after months of anxiety making sure we could bring Bob and Doug back home safely,” Ms. Shotwell said.

Meanwhile, the last time NASA astronauts returned from space to water was on July 24, 1975, in the Pacific, the scene of most splashdowns, to end a joint US-Soviet mission known as Apollo-Soyuz.

The Mercury and Gemini crews in the early to mid-1960s parachuted into the Atlantic, while most of the later Apollo capsules hit the Pacific.

Maharashtra Police Forced Bihar IPS to stay inQuarantine

Maharashtra and Bihar Police have come face to face in the investigation over Sushant Singh Rajput mysterious death. Patna’s SP Vinay Tiwari, who arrived in Mumbai on Sunday for investigation, was quarantined by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Putting a quarantine seal on his hand, he has been asked to stay in a house until further orders. Meaning that they will no longer be able to meet anyone for investigation.

The Bihar police chief, in late-night tweets, alleged that a senior IPS officer sent from Patna was “forcibly quarantined” by civic authorities in Mumbai.

“He was not provided accommodation in the IPS Mess despite request and was staying in a guest house in Goregaw (Goregaon),” the Bihar police chief said.

“There is no question of non-cooperation. We are legally examining whether they (Bihar Police) have jurisdiction or not in the Sushant Singh Rajput case. Still, if they’ve got jurisdiction, then they should prove it,” Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh said.

Vinod Mishra, a corporator and BJP leader in Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), said, “I condemn this incident. I would like to ask Maharashtra Chief Minister and Home Minister that the entire country wants to solve Sushant Singh Rajput’s death mystery. Bihar Police officials have been coming to Mumbai nowadays in connection with this case but you are not supporting them. You did not quarantine them but when an IPS officer came ahead to solve this case, he was forcibly quarantined.”

Farooq Abdullah : Revoking Article 370 didn’t usher in any development in J&K

Source- Daily Times

Farooq Abdullah, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said that the abrogation of the formerly state’s special status had neither accompany in development nor put an end to terrorism as being narrated by some vested interests in New Delhi.

Speaking at a webinar , Abdullah, a Lok Sabha member and president of the National Conference (NC), said that the government took the decision on the abrogation of the special status without consulting anyone from Jammu and Kashmir.

Source – Business Today

“It was passed in one day in Rajya Sabha and another day in Lok Sabha,” he said and added that the narrative sold by the government is that Kashmir would now become a part of India. “We were always part of India holding the tricolour,” Abdullah said.

Meanwhile BJP leader Priya Sethi and former MLC Surinder Ambardar countered Abdullah and said the abrogation of Article 370 provisions had become necessary to ensure all-round development.

“One year is little time to assess the benefits, give us some time and you will see for yourself,” Sethi said.

“Article 370 was a continuation of the two-nation theory which gave rise to Pakistan in 1947,” Ambardar said.

“What changed which forced them (to take such a decision)? This was the agenda of the BJP to abrogate it and so it projected it that development will be pouring in from the top, industrialists will come in and the whole map will change. UTs become states but states never become UTs,” Abdullah said.

India, China Holds Fifth Round Of Commander

Indian and Chinese military commanders on Sunday met in eastern Ladakh to discuss the next stage of disengagement. About Line of Actual Control (LAC), near Pangong Tso. Also Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s reluctance to evacuate positions held by it in what India claims to be Indian territory.

The Finger Area — a set of eight cliffs jutting out of the Sirijap range overlooking the Pangong Lake — has emerged as the hardest part of the disengagement process with little hope of immediate resolution, said one of the officials cited above.

This fifth round talks about negotiations between corps commander-ranked officers.

Notably, this round of military negotiations came just three days after Chinese ambassador Sun Weidong said his country’s traditional boundary line on the northern bank of the Pangong Lake was in accordance with the LAC and there was no case of Beijing expanding its territorial claim.

”The ambassador’s contention was a clear indication of the Chinese hard line on its claims in the Finger Area”, said a second official. Before the PLA grabbed positions on Finger Four overlooking Indian deployments, the Indian Army would patrol right up to Finger Eight that New Delhi considers within Indian territory. The new positions held by the PLA have curtailed the scope of Indian patrols. Fingers Four and Eight are eight kilometres apart.

“It is becoming increasingly evident that breaking the Finger Area deadlock may require diplomatic intervention,” said the second official.

Meanwhile Indian claim line in this sector extends to Finger Eight, while the Chinese claim is up to Finger Four where the PLA has set up permanent bunkers, pillboxes, observation posts and tented camps over the last three months.

“The new constructions by the PLA in the Finger Area and its deployments there show there is an element of permanence in their claims to the area. That coupled with the Chinese ambassador’s statement is an indication that the PLA is inclined to hold its positions on the north bank of Pangong Tso,” said former Northern Army commander Lieutenant General (retd) DS Hooda.

India-China: India puts up a condition in front of China for the further round of talks

Fifth round of Corps Commanders level talks between India and China held at Moldo
Fifth round of Corps Commanders level talks between India and China held at Moldo

The fifth round of Corps Commanders level talks between India and China held at Moldo, China on Sunday and now India has decided to discuss only on the Chinese disengagement in the finger areas of Pangong Tso.

“During the meetings, we are focusing on the disengagement by Chinese in Finger area along the Pangong Tso lake in Ladakh. Yes, they have to honor their commitment given during previous talks,” government sources as saying by India Today.

China continuously refused their standoff in the Pangong Tso region but they are still present over there according to the claim by the Indian side. The presence of Chinese troops in Finger 5 and the ridgeline near Finger 4 is still the matter of concern for India.

The main motto for the previous meeting was to take forward the process of disengagement on Line of Actual Control (LAC). The meeting was started at 11 A.M on Sunday.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs told about the de-escalation process which is still incomplete but the Chinese claimed the disengagement is completed from them.

Until June 6 there were five various rounds of talks held so far on June 6, June 22, June 30, July 14 and August 2 for the same topic on de-escalation in Galwan Valley, Gogra-Hot Springs and the Fingers of Pangong Tso in Eastern Ladakh. There is still no update on the de-escalation in Depsang plains.

India has urged for the resettlement of boundary line in LAC. China continuously increased the number of troops since April-May and occupied various positions in the Indian part of LAC in Eastern sectors of newly formed Union Territory. On July 14, the talk went for 15 hours but it couldn’t helped in the process of disengagement. The restraining situation for de-escalation is a concern for Indian government.

The process of disengagement was done only in the Galwan Valley and Patrolling Point in the Gogra-Hot spring region but the process isn’t begun in the Pangong Tso region. The Chinese troops stepped backward from the Finger 4 base, the mountain spur, Finger 5 but they are still on the ridgelines of Finger 4.

The internal clash between the nations led the cancelation of Border Personnel Meeting

The ceremonial Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) meeting is canceled amid the ongoing tensions at LAC. This meeting was usually held at Chushul for the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Day. The meeting was supposed to take place on August 1 but it didn’t happen.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters remember late brother on Rakshabandhan; share throwback pictures, emotional notes

Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters, Neetu Singh and Shweta Singh Kirti, remembered their loving brother on the auspicious occasion of Rakshabandhan.

Shweta Singh Kirti shared some fond memories of their childhood celebrations of Raksha Bandhan with Sushant. Along with the pictures, Shweta also shared a heart-warming note. “Happy Raksha Bandhan mera sweet sa baby. Bahut pyaar karte hain hum aapko jaan aur hamesha karte rahenge (We love you a lot will love you always). You were, you are and you will always be our pride,”she wrote.

Sushant’s eldest sister Neetu Singh, whom he called Rani di, penned a heartbreaking note for her late brother who passed away in June this year. The note, written in Hindi, was shared by Times Now and reads: “Aaj tumhara din hai. Aaj hamara din hai. Aaj rakhi hai. 35 saal ke baad yeh pehla afsar hai ki aaj puja ki thal saji hai, arti ka diya bhi jal raha hai, as woh chehra nahi hai jiski aarti utar sakun. Woh kalai nahi jispar rakhi baand sakun. Woh muh nahi jisko meetha kar sakun. Woh maatha nahi jise chum sakun. Woh bhai nahi jise gale laga sakun. Varshon pehle jab tum jab aaye they toh jeewan jagmag ho utha tha. Jab they toh ujala hi ujala tha. Ab jab tum nahi ho toh mujhe samajh nahi aata ki kya karun. Tumhari bagair mujhe jeena nahi aata. Kabhi socha nahi tha ki aisa bhi hoga. Yeh din hoga par tum nahi hoge. Dher saari cheezein humne saath saath seekhin. Tumhare bina rehna main akele kaise seekhun? Tumhi kaho. Hamesha tumhari, Rani di.”

The letter translates to, “Today is your day. Today is our day. Today is rakhi. It is the first time in 35 years that the puja thal is decorated, the diya is lit, but I cannot perform aarti for you. I cannot tie the rakhi on your wrist. I cannot feed you sweets. I cannot kiss your forehead. I cannot hug you. When you were born life became brighter. You spread joy in your lifetime. But now that you aren’t here, I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to live without you. I never thought I’d see this day — a day without you in it. We learned so much together. But how am I supposed to learn to live without you? You tell me. Forever yours, Rani di.”

Earlier, Sushant’s sister Shweta had said that she expects justice to prevail in the ongoing investigation in her brother’s death case.

Donald Trump agrees on Microsoft-TikTok deal, gives 45 days to agree sale

The U.S. President Donald Trump has alterted his opinion on banning the popular video sharing app TikTok in the country.

On Sunday, sources close to the matter told Reutres that Trump has also agreed to to give TikTok’s Chinese parent 45 days to negotiate its sale to U.S. tech giant Microsoft.

Popular video sharing app has been heavily criticized for its link with China. Owned by Chinese company Bytedance, TikTok was also reported to shift its headquarters to UK in the same light.

US Officials have said TikTok with its Chinese roots poses a national risk to security of users as it was alleged to breach privacy.

Trump on Saturday said “as far as TikTok is concerned, we are banning it.” He also dismissed of any possible spin-off deal with Microsoft buying TikTok to avoid the bar in the country.

But following a discussion between Trump and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, the company said in a statement that it would continue negotiations to buy the app and that it aimed to reach a deal by Sept. 15.

It has not been clear what made the US president to switch course, however, reuters reported that several prominent Republican lawmakers have urged him to back selling TikTok to Microsoft.

Moreover, banning TikTok from the country would enrage youth who uses the social media app quite frequently, alienating their votes to Trump ahead of the U.S. presidential elections in November.

ByteDance had earlier proposed to keep a minority stake in the business, however, the White House had rejected the deal.

Now, under the new deal, Microsoft has promised that all private data belonging to TikTok’s American users is transferred to and remains in the United States.
