‘Haryana Keeps Proving That…’ Netizens React After Mouni Roy Claims Elderly Men Touched Her Waist During Karnal Event

Mouni Roy Harassment Incident Haryana

Bollywood actress Mouni Roy has spoken about a disturbing incident she allegedly faced at a recent event in Karnal, Haryana. The actor shared her experience on Instagram Stories and said the incident left her shaken, HUMILIATED and worried about the safety of women performers in the industry.

Here’s What Mouni Roy Said!

Mouni said she attended the event as a guest performer. However, as she walked towards the stage, several male attendees, including elderly men from the host family, repeatedly touched her waist while trying to take photographs. When she asked them to remove their hands, she claimed they reacted angrily instead of respecting her request.

She further said the situation became worse once she reached the stage. Two men standing in the front row allegedly made vulgar comments and obscene hand gestures. They also called her names. Mouni shared that she first tried to handle the situation politely by signalling them to stop. Instead, the men reportedly began throwing roses at her.

During the performance, the harassment became so uncomfortable that the actor briefly walked towards the stage exit. Despite feeling distressed, she returned to the stage and completed her act professionally. She added that the inappropriate behaviour did not stop, and neither the family members nor the event organisers stepped in to control the situation or remove the men from the front.

Speaking about how the incident affected her, Mouni said it left her deeply disturbed. She also expressed concern for women who are just starting out in the industry. According to her, if an established actor like her has to face such behaviour, it is worrying to think about what newcomers might go through. She said she felt humiliated and traumatised and called on authorities to take action against such intolerable conduct.

The actor also stressed that artists attend such events only to earn an honest living through their work. Questioning the mindset of the men involved, she asked how they would feel if someone behaved the same way with their daughters, sisters, or other family members. She described the behaviour as shameful and unacceptable.

In another message, Mouni pointed out that the stage was elevated and some men were recording videos from inappropriate low angles. She claimed that when people around asked them to stop, they were verbally abused. The actor said she loves her country, its people and its traditions, but was shocked by the sense of entitlement shown during the incident. She added that she usually avoids sharing negative experiences publicly but felt compelled to speak up this time.

She concluded by saying there are no words strong enough to describe such behaviour. Mouni said actors attend weddings and celebrations as guests to add joy to the occasion, yet are harassed instead. She described the experience as deeply unpleasant and unacceptable.

Netizens REACT To Her Harassment Claims

Mouni Roy’s claims sparked strong reactions online. Read some user comments below:

“Haryana walo ki leli …..pyaar se.”

“Haryana keeps proving that you can build smart cities, but you can’t build basic manners into the DNA.”

“These people usually live in echo chambers where this kind of behaviour is celebrated as being alpha or desi style. They view women as property to be corrected rather than partners to be respected.”

“Sab log aese nhi hote, kuchh hi name kharab krte hai.”

“Soch bhi kese liya aapne ki haryana mai jana chahiye tha.”

On the work front, Mouni Roy was last seen in The Bhootnii alongside Sanjay Dutt and Sunny Singh last year. The film was a major box-office disaster. She was later seen in the espionage thriller Salakaar, which was released on an OTT platform.

Iran Protests: US-Iran Tensions Flare Up Again, Khamenei Hiding In Bunker, Would Help Come From Xi Jinping And Putin?

Iran Protests

Iran Protests: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, has reportedly gone into hiding amid growing fears of possible military strikes by Israel and the United States. In another development, the United States is all set to facilitate the deportation of at least 40 citizens of Iran living in its country.

According to media reports, Khamenei has reached an underground bunker after Donald Trump warned of ‘big forces’ moving in close proximity to Iran. A United States Navy Official commented that USS Abraham Lincoln, the aircraft carrier, and other warship are on its way to reach Tehran.

In response to threats by Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, General Mohammad Pakpour who is the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), remarked Iran and IRGC stand firm with the Supreme Leader. Pakpour added that IRGC has its finger on the trigger and would not hesitate to execute the directives and orders of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran Protests-Number Of Casualties

In recent days, a series of videos have emerged showing thousands of dead bodies piled on top of each other from Behesht-e Zahra cemetery, warehouses, Kahrizak forensic halls and hospitals in several Iranian cities.

According to media reports, more than 20,000 protestors and others have been killed in nationwide massacre conducted by the Khamenei regime.

Iran’s ‘Thank You’ Note To India

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) recently voted to significantly increase scrutiny of Iran. India extended its solidarity toward Iran and objected to it. In reply, Ambassador Mohammad Fathali, the ambassador of Iran to India, issued a rare ‘Thank You’ for objecting to the politically motivated and unjust UNHRC resolution.

Twenty-five members of the UNHRC votes in favour of the resolution while 7 voted against it while 14 stayed absent from voting. The UNHRC urged Iran to urgently stop the arrests and killings of protestors. It also called on the Islamic Republic to prevent sexual and gender-based violence, enforced disappearance, other forms of arbitrary deprivation of life and extrajudicial killing.

Now comes the interesting question – would Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin come to the rescue of Khamenei? Is this the start to World War 3?

Dhurandhar Box Office Collection Day 51: 1st Time In 8 Weeks! Ranveer Singh’s Spy Actioner Denies Big Jump, Focus Firmly On Border 2

Dhurandhar Box Office Collection Day 51: Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar continued its long theatrical run into Day 51, but for the first time in eight weeks, the spy actioner saw a very low single-day box office collection over the weekend. The film could not register any big jump on Saturday, January 24, as the newly released Sunny Deol starrer Border 2 grabbed audience attention.

Dhurandhar Box Office Collection Day 51

According to Sacnilk, Dhurandhar box office collection on Day 51 was around Rs 0.75 crore net in India. This is very low compared to earlier weeks and shows how audience focus has shifted to Border 2. Despite the slowdown, Dhurandhar has had a remarkable run over seven weeks, though it is now nearing the end of its theatrical life and will soon exit completely.

When Dhurandhar released on December 5, 2025, it opened strong and quickly became one of the biggest Indian films in recent years. Sacnilk’s day-wise tracking shows that the film has crossed Rs 830 crore net in India, while its worldwide gross stands at around Rs 1289 crore.

These numbers put Dhurandhar among the highest-grossing Indian films of all time, alongside blockbusters like Dangal, Baahubali 2, RRR and Pushpa 2. The Rs 850 crore India net mark was a key milestone, which the film narrowly missed. Still, it outperformed all other Bollywood and South releases domestically, only trailing behind KGF 2, Baahubali 2 and Pushpa 2 The Rule.

About The Film

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar is a high-octane spy thriller inspired by real-life events, including the 1999 IC-814 hijacking and the 2001 Indian Parliament attack. Ranveer Singh stars as undercover agent Hamza Ali Mazari, while Akshaye Khanna plays the main antagonist Rehman Dakait. The ensemble cast also features Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan as the intelligence chief, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun.

Produced on a massive Rs 250–300 crore budget, the film features high-end action sequences shot in Thailand, Ladakh and Mumbai. With a 214-minute runtime, it heavily relied on VFX and post-production. Pre-release deals, including a Netflix streaming agreement worth over Rs 130 crore for the two-part franchise, helped support the financial scale.

Dhurandhar has been officially declared an All-Time BLOCKBUSTER, becoming the highest-grossing Hindi-language film in India. Fans are already looking forward to Dhurandhar 2, scheduled for release on March 19, 2026.

India EU FTA Deal: 5-Year Roadmap, Trade Deal And Defence Ties Near Finish Line, Washington Stutters, Ready To Waive Off 25 Percent Tariffs

EU India FTA Deal

EU India FTA Deal: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa have arrived in New Delhi to sign the “mother of all deals” and be the Chief Guests for the 77th Republic Day at Kartavya Path in New Delhi.

The relations between the European Union (EU) and India have been built around a series of initiatives across many years. This includes the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), the Global Gateway and the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) to name a few, reflecting deepening institutional alignment.

EU India FTA Deal-Beyond the Republic Day Celebrations

Costa and Von der Leyen would be representing the EU at the 16th EU-India Summit that would take place on January 27. The duo would meet the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expand cooperation in vital areas and deepen their strategic partnership.

In a statement, it was said that defence, security and trade along with a smooth transition and people-to-people cooperation would be the top things to be discussed.

It is likely that the EU and India would sign the historic FTA deal that would significantly minimize dependence of both EU and India on limited supply chains while improving their access to markets.

The EU-India summit would also discuss a 5-year roadmap covering technology, sustainability, economic ties and shared global challenges. Both EU and India are keen to boost economic resilience, strengthen security cooperation and work more closely at global forums.

Washington Stutters, Softens

Owning to the historic EU-India FTA deal, the United States has now softened its stance. Recently, US treasury secretary Scott Bessent remarked that the 25 percent tariffs on India could be removed as Russian oil purchased by India have “collapsed”.

Bessent went on to blast Europe for not imposing any kind of tariffs on India. He accused the European allies of prioritizing trade interests over the enforcement of sanctions.

Republic Day 2026: The Republic Day 2026 Parade would see many firsts to delight every proud Indian watching it from the stands of Kartavya Path or live on the television.

The Republic Day Parade would witness the ‘Phased Battle Array’, S-400 defence system that broke hell on Pakistan, two majestic double-humped Bactrian camels, Bhairav Battalion, Suryastra system and women leaders CRPF Commander Simran Bala and Lieutenant Mehak Bhati leading the way.

Republic Day 2026 Parade-Debut For Phased Battle Array

The 77th Republic Day of India would mark debut of the Phased Battle Array that would integrate with the indigenous Suryastra system, which is a game-changing rocket artillery platform designed for precision strikes.

Developed by the eminent Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), Suryastra boasts of state-of-the-art, advanced phased array radar for real-time targeting. It would be capable of delivering devastating salvos over 10 kilometres.

Republic Day spectators would witness High Mobility Reconnaissance Vehicles (HMRV), advanced battlefield surveillance radars, Dhruv helicopters, Arjun Main Battle Tank, T-90 Bhishma tanks, Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System, the ‘Shaktiban’ artillery regiment and more.

Lieutenant Mehak Bhati, the poised commander of the elite Suryastra rocket contingent, would be leading the all-women unit with unyielding resolve. The steely gaze and crisp salutes of Lieutenant Bhati would inspire millions of girls and women of the country, showcasing that the defence future of the country is in capable hands.

S-400 Glory

S-400, the Russian-origin mobile surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, which has integrated into the arsenal of India, would be showcased during the Republic Day 2026 parade. The SAM system made headlines by “breaking hell on Pakistan” during Operation Sindoor. Its long-range missiles can neutralize enemy aircrafts and drones with surgical precision, safeguarding Indian skies.

Rare Camels March: Majestic Bactrian Beasts

The Republic Day 2026 Parade would witness a rare camels’ march with two double-humped Bactrian camels. Sourced from Ladakh’s rugged terrains, these resilient giants symbolize the Border Security Force’s (BSF) unyielding vigilance along icy frontiers.

Bhairav Battalion: The Fierce Guardians of the Nation

A newly raised Special Forces unit named after the fiercest form of Lord Shiva, the Bhairav Battalion is trained for high-altitude warfare and counter-terror ops. The debut of the battalion would underscore the evolving threat landscape of the country, from proxy wars to cyber incursions.

Frontline Women Warriors: Simran Bala and Mehak Bhati

In a historic nod to Nari Shakti, CRPF Commander Simran Bala from Jammu & Kashmir spearheads an all-male contingent. Complementing her is Lieutenant Mehak Bhati, at the helm of the Suryastra contingent.

The Republic Day 2026 Parade would be a vivid portrait of a rising India: innovative, indomitable and inclusive.

Another Minneapolis Shooting Raises Eyebrows, Family Argues Official Story Conflicts With Bystander Video, Where Has Human Rights Reached Under Donald Trump?

Minneapolis-Shooting

Minneapolis Shooting: A Minneapolis nurse, Alex Pretti, was shot and killed by federal immigration agents. His family says he had only a cellphone, not a weapon. Videos from bystanders show a different story, raising concerns about human rights and calls for a proper investigation.

Shooting Incident in Minneapolis

On January 24, 2026 scientists found a 37-year-old man who died from a gunshot wound that federal immigration agents had fired in Minneapolis. The incident caused public anger which led to a renewed discussion about immigration enforcement practices.

Who Was the Victim?

Alex Jeffrey Pretti worked as an ICU Nurse at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs hospital. His family and colleagues described him as a compassionate person who dedicated his life to helping others.

Family Rejects Official Account

Pretti’s family has called the government’s version “sickening lies.” The family claims that he only held a cellphone while trying to help a woman who had been pepper-sprayed.

Bystander Videos Contradict Claims

The videos show Pretti recording the agents while raising his hands to show he did not pose any threat, according to federal authorities.

Where Has Human Rights Reached Under Donald Trump?

Under Donald Trump, many critics say human rights protections were weakened, especially in areas like immigration enforcement, law and order, and treatment of minorities. Incidents like the Minneapolis shooting raise questions about accountability and the balance between security and citizens’ rights.

Border 2 Box Office Collection Day 2: Sunny Deol Starrer Sees 22% Jump On Saturday, Lags Behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan By Huge Margin, Check

Border 2 Box Office Collection Day 2 - Sunny Deol Starrer Lags Behind Pathaan

Border 2 Box Office Collection Day 2: Border 2, the year’s first major Bollywood release, has shown steady growth at the box office. The Sunny Deol-led war drama picked up pace on Saturday and registered a noticeable jump on Day 2. However, despite the rise, the film still remains far behind Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster Pathaan when it comes to daily collections.

The patriotic film benefited from the Republic Day weekend, but trade experts say expectations were higher, especially for a big sequel release.

Border 2 Box Office Collection Day 2

As per trade tracker Sacnilk, Border 2 earned Rs 36.7 crore net on Day 2 (Saturday). This was a clear improvement over its Rs 30 crore net opening day, marking a 22% jump in collections. With this, the film’s two-day total now stands at around Rs 66.7 crore net.

The film also saw better occupancy on Saturday. Overall theatre occupancy rose to nearly 43%, compared to lower numbers on Friday. This growth suggests that word of mouth and the long holiday weekend helped bring more audiences to cinemas.

Trade analysts believe the film gained from its patriotic theme and sequel value. Advance bookings were solid, especially in mass belts. With Sunday and the Republic Day holiday following, exhibitors remain hopeful that Border 2 could inch closer to the Rs 100 crore mark by the end of the extended weekend.

That said, many feel the collections are decent but not extraordinary for a film of this scale.

While Border 2 showed growth on Day 2, the comparison with Pathaan highlights a huge gap. Shah Rukh Khan’s spy thriller (released during Republic Day 2023) collected around Rs 70.5 crore net on Day 2 in India alone. That figure is almost double of what Border 2 managed on Saturday.

Pathaan went on to become a historic blockbuster, crossing Rs 1,000 crore worldwide during its theatrical run. Its Day 2 collection still ranks among the highest single-day totals for a Hindi film.

In contrast, Border 2’s Rs 36.7 crore Saturday figure (while respectable) has fallen short of expectations. The film has also failed to beat Sunny Deol’s own Gadar 2, despite being a multi-starrer, a sequel and releasing during a festive weekend. Trade circles feel the opening numbers should have been stronger given the scale and budget.

Border 2 Box Office Collection Day 2

DayIndia Net Collection
Day 1 (Friday)Rs 30 cr
Day 2 (Saturday)Rs 36.7 cr
Total (2 days)Rs 66.7 cr nett

About The Film

Released on January 23, Border 2 is a standalone sequel to the 1997 classic. The film is set during the 1971 India–Pakistan War and focuses on “Operation Chengiz Khan.” Directed by Anurag Singh, the story highlights the combined efforts of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.

Sunny Deol returns as Lt. Col. Fateh Singh Kaler, joined by Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty in key roles. The film also features Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, and Medha Rana, with cameo appearances by Suniel Shetty and Akshaye Khanna. Made on a reported budget of Rs 250–300 crore, the film was shot across large military locations.

Despite a solid opening, criticism has emerged around its lengthy runtime, uneven pacing, and dated VFX. While the patriotic emotion connects, many critics feel it lacks the raw impact of the original Border.

For now, Border 2 holds steady at the box office, but matching the legacy of Pathaan remains a distant goal.

T20 World Cup 2026: ICC Warns Pakistan of Misadventure, Here’s What Happens If PCB Plans To Pull Out

T20 World Cup 2026

T20 World Cup 2026: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has warned Pakistan of unprecedented sanctions if it continues to defy international cricket standards and relations.

The ICC said Pakistan could face total cricketing isolation including exclusion from the Asia Cup, a potential suspension of all bilateral series and a coordinated no no-objection certificates’ policy among member boards. This would mean foreign stars would not be able to participate in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

These sanctions could cripple the primary revenue streams of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). They would also have a massive impact on the commercial value of the domestic cricket in the terror state of Pakistan, leaving the Pakistani team with no international matches outside of major events conducted by ICC.

T20 World Cup 2026-Reasons For Tough Stance

The PCB threatened to boycott the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 that would be held in India and Sri Lanka. This was after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) refused to travel to India to play its group C matches.

The PCB initially supported BCB but then softened its stance before Mohsin Naqvi, the Interior Minister of Pakistan, blamed the ICC of double standards.

Naqvi seems to have angered the ICC by publicly challenging its authority and suggesting Pakistan has options to still withdraw from the T20 World Cup 2026.

Naqvi remarked that a final decision on the participation of Pakistan would be made by Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan. He also urged other cricket board to extend their solidarity to BCB the way Pakistan did.

BCB Director And Game Development Committee Chairman Resigns

Ishtiaque Sadeque, the BCB director and Game Development Committee chairman, resigned after the ICC replaced Bangladesh with Scotland. Sadeque offered family and personal commitments as the reasons for stepping down and claimed that his resignation is nothing due to any kind of internal board misunderstandings, disputes or grievances.

Shah Rukh Khan has once again taken over the internet. His upcoming film King locked its release date on Saturday, and the announcement quickly became the biggest Bollywood talking point of the day.

Set for a grand Christmas release, King will arrive in theatres on December 24, 2026. The makers dropped a one-minute release date teaser, and it instantly grabbed attention from fans and industry insiders alike.

The teaser shows Shah Rukh Khan in a fierce and intense avatar, hinting at a stylish action-packed film. Soon after it went live, social media was flooded with reactions. Shah Rukh’s son Aryan Khan shared the video on Instagram Stories and wrote, “Baap.”

Suhana Khan, who stars alongside her father in King, also reshared the teaser. The film marks her second big-screen outing after The Archies and her biggest project so far.

King Release Date Teaser Gets Massive Industry Support

The release date announcement received strong backing from across the film industry. Social media personality Orry commented, “Most excited for Suhana Khan.” Shanaya Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor and Navya Naveli Nanda reacted with heart emojis.

Navya Naveli Nanda also cheered for her uncle Abhishek Bachchan, who plays the antagonist in the film. She reshared the teaser and wrote, “Yayyy.”

Filmmaker Karan Johar shared his excitement with a loud reaction. He wrote on his IG story, “OMGGGGG! The internet just broke! Bhaiii, you have killed it.” He had earlier described King as a “juggernaut” during the title reveal.

Deepika Padukone amplified the announcement by resharing the teaser. Bipasha Basu praised the visuals as “fab” and called the film a BLOCKBUSTER in the making. Sussanne Khan reacted to Shah Rukh Khan’s look, calling him a “Gorgeoussssssss man.” Mrunal Thakur, Hansika Motwani and more shared supportive reactions.

Shah Rukh Khan Overshadows Battle Of Galwan Buzz

The excitement around King ended up overshadowing another major release that arrived around the same time. Just hours earlier, Salman Khan had unveiled the first song “Maatrubhumi” from his upcoming war drama Battle of Galwan.

The patriotic track was released ahead of Republic Day and aimed to honour the bravery of Indian soldiers. While the song did receive appreciation, it did not get the same level of industry shoutouts.

Most reactions came from people directly linked to the project, including Himesh Reshammiya, Chitrangada Singh, Apoorva Lakhia and Salman Khan’s rumoured GF Lulia Vantur. In contrast, entertainment headlines and online discussions remained focused on Shah Rukh Khan’s King release date teaser, leaving Battle of Galwan’s song drop feeling overshadowed.

Directed by Siddharth Anand, King is a high-octane action thriller produced by Red Chillies Entertainment. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukerji, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. Shah Rukh plays a deadly assassin who trains his daughter’s character, played by Suhana Khan.

Meanwhile, Battle of Galwan, directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salman Khan Films, is scheduled for an Eid release on April 17, 2026. The film is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash and stars Salman Khan as martyred army officer Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu.

Delhi Pollution: Delhiites Breathe Fresh! AQI Drops to Moderate Levels as Friday Rain Brings Cleanest Air in Three Months, Here’s What Lies Ahead

Delhi-Pollution

Delhi Pollution: After weeks of choking smog, Delhi finally witnessed a breath of fresh air. Friday’s rainfall brought much-needed relief as the city’s Air Quality Index dropped to the moderate category, marking the cleanest air Delhi has recorded in nearly three months.

Rain Brings Temporary Relief to the Capital

Light to moderate rainfall across Delhi and the NCR helped settle dust particles and wash pollutants from the atmosphere. As a result, visibility improved, skies looked clearer, and air quality declined noticeably compared to previous weeks.

Delhi Pollution: AQI Levels Improve After Long Struggle

The AQI slipping into the moderate range is a significant change for Delhiites who have been living under poor and very poor air conditions. While the air is now safer for the general public, people with respiratory problems are still advised to remain cautious.

Why Does This Improvement Matter?

The presence of cleaner air for any duration lessens lung strain in people and provides health benefits to children and elderly people and individuals who suffer from asthma or allergies. The study demonstrates that weather patterns are the primary factor determining the pollution levels affecting the city.

Delhi Pollution: What Lies Ahead for Delhi’s Air Quality?

Experts predict that this temporary relief will soon end. Poor pollution levels will return when wind speed decreases and temperatures begin to rise again. Sustainable solutions and long-term pollution control measures remain essential.

Chanchal Chandra Bhoumik

Chanchal Chandra Bhoumik: A 23-year-old Hindu man from Bangladesh was burnt mercilessly by radical Islamists in the Narsingdi district.

Chanchal Chandra Bhoumik, the victim, had been working at a vehicle garage for the last many years. Chanchal was the sole breadwinner of his family who originally hail from Lakshmipur Village in Cumilla district.

Chanchal Chandra Bhoumik-The Tragic Incident

The tragic killing of Chanchal Chandra Bhoumik happened near the Mosque Market area that is adjacent to the Police Lines. On Friday night, the attack happened when Chanchal was sleeping peacefully inside the garage.

A group of Islamic radicalists allegedly poured petrol on shutter of the shop from outside before setting it on fire. Local residents immediately informed the fire services after being alerted. The charred body of Chanchal was found inside the garage. According to eyewitnesses, Chanchal remained trapped in the fire for long and lost his life painfully.

The family of Chanchal Chandra Bhoumik has demanded an immediate arrest of those responsible for the death of their son. The killing has renewed fears about minority safety and security in Bangladesh.

Police are presently examining the CCTV footage and a case would then be registered.

The brutal killing was condemned by local Hindu community leaders.

Past Incidents Against Minorities

On December 18, a garment factory worker named Dipu Chandra Das was falsely accused of committing blasphemy. He was then lynched by an angry mob before being set on fire. A few days later, Amrit Mondal was beaten on charges of extortion by a mob in Bangladesh’s Rajbari district.

Last week, Liton Chandra Das was killed in an angry mob assault in Kaliganj. In another case, Ripon Saha was crushed to death when he tried stopping a vehicle from fleeing the petrol pump where he was working unless they pay for the fuel.

Would the February 12 elections make life any different and secure for the Bangladeshi minorities? The answer is probably and sadly a no!

Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman recently landed in controversy after comments he made in an interview with BBC Asian Network. His remarks about changes in Bollywood’s power structure and a possible communal angle behind his reduced work sparked strong reactions online and across the film industry.

Rahman spoke about the slowdown in his Hindi film projects over the past eight years. During the interview, he said that people who are not creative now control key decisions in the industry. He also suggested that the shift might be a “communal” thing. His statement quickly became the centre of debate.

Actor and politician Arun Govil has now responded to Rahman’s remarks. He rejected the idea that communal bias exists in Indian cinema.

Arun Govil REACTS To AR Rahman’s Comments

Arun Govil (who became a household name for playing Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan) shared his views. He was attending an event organised by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees and the Cine Artiste Welfare Trust. Govil is also part of Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming film Ramayana.

Rejecting Rahman’s claims, Govil said the film industry has always been inclusive. He told PTI, “In our industry, it has never happened where people have not got work due to communal bias. There are examples of this in our industry. In our industry, people of every religion have worked. Even today, there is no such thing. In fact, the film industry is the only industry where there is no communal bias.”

Govil also pointed to some of Bollywood’s biggest stars to support his view. He added, “Earlier, we’ve had actors like Dilip Kumar. He was the king of the industry in his time. Even today, Shah Rukh, Salman, Aamir, they are all stars. If there were communal bias, how would they have become stars?”

Others Who Disagreed With AR Rahman

Rahman had explained that his comments were based on indirect information. He said the idea of communal bias reached him through “Chinese whispers” about projects he was first signed for but later lost. Still, the suggestion drew sharp criticism.

Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar disagreed with Rahman’s view. He said Rahman’s success and stature may make producers hesitant, as they feel “awe and fear” when approaching him. Singer Shaan also dismissed the communal angle and said the industry rewards talent over everything else.

The controversy grew with stronger reactions. Anup Jalota made a controversial remark suggesting Rahman “consider becoming a Hindu again.” Actor Kangana Ranaut accused the composer of being “prejudiced and hateful.” Union Minister G Kishan Reddy called the claims “absolutely false,” while the Vishwa Hindu Parishad accused Rahman of “defaming the country.” Lyricist Manoj Muntashir also advised Rahman to be more careful with his words.

After the backlash, Rahman released an emotional video on January 18. He said his remarks were misunderstood and stressed his love for the country. Rahman added that India remains his inspiration, teacher and home.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann bows in reverence at Nanded Sahib; says his govt will raise demand for granting holy city status to Nanded with Maharashtra Govt

Bhagwant Mann

Bowing in reverence at Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday said his government would raise the demand for granting holy city status to Nanded Sahib with the Maharashtra Government, underscoring that the sacred town holds immense spiritual significance for Sikhs and humanity at large. Recalling that the Punjab Government has already declared Sri Amritsar Sahib, Sri Anandpur Sahib and Talwandi Sabo as holy cities, the Punjab CM asserted that his government remains fully committed to the Guru Sahiban.

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann also paid obeisance at the holy shrine of Kalgi Dhar Patshah Ji, met the shrine management and witnessed a strong turnout of devotees and local residents, underscoring the deep connect between the Panth, its historic institutions and the people who continue to draw inspiration from them.

Addressing the gathering, Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Nanded Sahib is a sacred place not only for Sikhs but for entire humanity, as the Tenth Sikh Guru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji spent a considerable part of his life on this holy land.”

The Punjab CM asserted that the Punjab Government would impress upon the Maharashtra Government to accord holy city status to Nanded Sahib as a befitting tribute to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The Chief Minister added, “The 350th Shaheedi Diwas (Martyrdom Day) of the Ninth Guru, Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, who laid down his life for religious freedom and human rights, has been commemorated by the state government with deep devotion and reverence.”

Recalling an important decision taken last year, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “In November, on the Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, the Punjab Government designated three Takht towns as holy cities.” He said the official notification granting holy city status to the walled city area of Amritsar, Talwandi Sabo and Sri Anandpur Sahib had already been issued, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the sangat across the world. “On similar lines, an announcement for Nanded Sahib should also be made by the Maharashtra Government, for which the Punjab Government will make all possible efforts,” he said.

The Chief Minister also announced a complete facelift of the Punjab Bhawan in Nanded Sahib. “The Punjab Bhawan constructed by the Punjab government will be upgraded with ultra-modern facilities to facilitate devotees,” Bhagwant Singh Mann said, adding that the supply of Verka milk products in Nanded would also be further streamlined for the benefit of pilgrims. He asserted, “No stone will be left unturned to ensure every possible facility for the devotees visiting this sacred place.”

Highlighting the contribution of Punjabis to the nation, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Punjabis have played a stellar role in the freedom struggle, in making the country self-reliant in food production, and in safeguarding the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India.”

He said Punjabis are always at the forefront when it comes to defending the borders and are ever ready to make sacrifices. “It is a matter of immense pride that in times of any mishap, Punjabis often reach the spot even before organisations like the Red Cross to serve the needy,” he said.

The Chief Minister said, “The Punjab government is duty bound to perpetuate the glorious legacy of the great Guru Sahibans among the younger generations. We are following the footsteps of the great Guru Sahibans, who taught humanity to stand against tyranny and injustice while ensuring the welfare of all.”

He added that as part of this commitment, the Punjab Government recently commemorated the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji at Sri Anandpur Sahib. “Our sole aim is to keep the younger generations connected with the life, philosophy and supreme sacrifices of the Guru Sahibans for mankind,” he said.

Meanwhile, at Takht Sri Hazur Sahib, the Chief Minister prayed for the progress and development of the state and the prosperity of its people. He said, “Takht Sri Hazur Sahib is one of the five highest seats of religious authority in Sikhism, providing spiritual, temporal and moral strength to the community.” He listed the other four Takhts as Sri Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar, Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib in Sri Anandpur Sahib, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo and Takht Sri Patna Sahib in Bihar.

Paying tributes to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Dashmesh Pitaah Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji made unparalleled contributions to uphold the traditions of secularism, safeguard human rights and ensure religious freedom, even sacrificing his entire family for these ideals.” He said the Guru Sahib spent a significant part of his life on the sacred land of Nanded Sahib.

The Chief Minister said he felt blessed to have the opportunity to pay reverence at the holy shrine. “I seek the blessings of the Almighty to give me the strength to serve the people of Punjab with humility and dedication,” Bhagwant Singh Mann said. After offering prayers at the Gurdwara Sahib, he reiterated the firm commitment of his government to serve people of all castes, colours, creeds and religions and to work towards building a harmonious society.
