128 Dead, several Injured as 6.4 magnitude earthquake jolts Nepal at midnight; rescue operations underway

Nepal Earthquake: An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 slammed a remote area of Nepal late on Friday, killing at least 128 people. Authorities in Nepal report that over 140 people have been injured, and further deaths are anticipated. Locals were seen on camera combing the debris of toppled houses and buildings for survivors as they dug through it in the dead of night.

The sound of emergency sirens surrounded the terrified survivors as several homes collapsed or suffered damage. Even more than 500 kilometers distant, New Delhi felt the vibrations of the earthquake and other parts of North India also felt the tremors for more than 20 seconds.

36 People died in Rukum West

Hari Prasad Pant, the Chief District Officer of Rukum West said to reporters, " At least 36 people have been confirmed dead in Rukum West, and the toll is expected to rise further This is the update we have been able to get till 5 am."

Nepal PM paid condolences to the deaths

Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the prime minister of Nepal, expressed his sympathies for the horrific death toll and the significant infrastructure damage brought on by the earthquake.

The PMO of Nepal posted on their Twitter (now known as X) account in Nepali to share the message of the Prime Minister in Nepali Language which translates into " Honorable Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" has expressed his deep sorrow over the human and physical damage caused by the earthquake that occurred at 11:47 PM at Ramidanda in Jajarkot and has mobilized all 3 security agencies for the immediate rescue and relief of the injured."
