Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated the Shahpur Kandi Dam project, constructed at a cost of ₹3394.49 crore, on the auspicious occasion of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Purab. The project is a major step towards strengthening Punjab’s water and power infrastructure, ensuring irrigation and electricity generation while also creating employment opportunities for the state’s youth.

The Shahpur Kandi Dam, once fully operational, will also help prevent wastage of river water flowing into Pakistan by utilizing it for domestic irrigation and power generation. Experts believe the project will play a pivotal role in improving regional water management and boosting Punjab’s agricultural economy.
