The suspension, which will take effect from 11:00 AM on August 19 till 11:00 AM on August 21, 2025, will minimize the misinformation that is being circulated through social media as people engage in protests over the brutal killing of a 19-year-old teacher, Manisha.

Internet Suspension Ordered

Mobile internet, bulk SMS, and dongle services will be suspended in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts by the Haryana government. The prohibition is effective at 11 AM on August 19 and is extended until 11 AM on August 21, 2025. Broadband and voice calls are operational. They did so to limit the circulation of misinformation and prevent unrest.

The Incident Behind the Tensions

On August 11, 19-year-old teacher Manisha, who taught at a playschool, had vanished as she went to check out a college admission. Her body, throat slit, was discovered in a field outside the village of Singhani two days later. The senseless murder elicited overwhelming indignation in the state.

Public Outrage and Protests

In Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Hisar, Jind, and Rohtak, people gheraoed roads and shouted slogans demanding justice. There were candle marches and dharnas that demanded that the culprits be thoroughly punished, and many wanted the death penalty. Her family declined to accept the body unless arrests were made.

Government and Police reaction

To calm tensions, the government took action:

  • Bhiwani SP Manbir Singh was transferred.
  • Five police officials, including an SHO and an ASI, were suspended for negligence.
  • A murder case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing. Political leaders from all major parties have also demanded strict justice.
