The state now makes a majority share of India’s mobile phones, and its leaders say this is just the beginning.
A New Electronics Powerhouse
Nine years ago, Uttar Pradesh barely featured on India’s electronics manufacturing map. Today, the numbers tell a different story: the state produces roughly 55 to 65 percent of all mobile phones made in India, along with a large share of electronic components. Global names like Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, LG, Haier, and Panasonic all run manufacturing units here, most of them clustered around Noida and Greater Noida.
From Almost Nothing to Billions in Exports
What makes this growth remarkable is how fast it happened. Back in 2015, UP’s electronics exports were close to zero. By 2022-23, they had climbed past $2.5 billion. Two years later, smartphone exports alone touched $17.5 billion. A jump like that doesn’t happen by accident it reflects years of steady policy work, new industrial parks, and better infrastructure.
Noida and Greater Noida Lead the Charge
Much of this success traces back to the Noida-Greater Noida belt, now home to one of Asia’s largest mobile manufacturing plants. Good roads, expressways, reliable power, and a skilled workforce have made the region attractive to Indian and global manufacturers alike. Investment figures back this up too: more than Rs 28,000 crore has poured in from over 75 companies under the state’s electronics manufacturing policies.
Semiconductors: The Next Chapter
The state isn’t stopping at assembling phones. Yogi Adityanath has repeatedly pointed to Uttar Pradesh’s push into semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and Industry 4.0 technology. Under the UP Semiconductor Policy, the state has already secured semiconductor investment commitments worth over Rs 32,000 crore, including a major display driver chip plant planned near Jewar.
Why This Matters for Everyday People
Beyond the big numbers, this growth translates into real jobs on factory floors, in logistics, and across supply chains and it means more “Made in India” phones reaching shelves around the world. With over 24 crore smartphone users already in the state and a fast-growing startup culture, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself not just as a manufacturing hub, but as a genuine technology powerhouse in the years ahead.
