The Maha Kumbh 2025 stampede in Prayagraj on January 29 remains a significant topic of discussion. Now, a statement by Dhirendra Shastri has sparked fresh debate. Speaking to TV9 Bharatvarsh, the Bageshwar Dham priest made bold remarks, directing his statement towards the Yogi Government. He suggested that if the entire Maha Kumbh 2025 had been handed over to the army, it could have been better organised.
A user named Mamta Tripathi posted a video clip from Dhirendra Krishna Shastri’s interview on X (formerly Twitter), which quickly gained traction. In the video, the Bageshwar Dham priest can be seen talking about the Maha Kumbh 2025 stampede and criticising the administrative lapses.

महाकुंभ को सेना के हवाले कर देना चाहिए था तब ये अव्यवस्थाएँ कंट्रोल की जा सकती थीं…

Dhirendra Shastri said, “The crowd was much larger than expected. The government had made arrangements according to their plans, but the number of devotees doubled beyond estimation. We can say that some officials were careless, and the incident that happened was extremely painful. It was truly heartbreaking. I believe that if the entire Maha Kumbh 2025 was managed by the army, it could have been much better organised.”
Further emphasising his point, Dhirendra Shastri stated that Sanatanis from all over the country were invited to attend Maha Kumbh 2025, and the overwhelming response should have been anticipated. He said, “We invited everyone to Maha Kumbh 2025. Every Sanatani should visit, as this opportunity will not come again. But all Hindus became aware and rushed towards Maha Kumbh. The government should have been more alert in making arrangements for such a large crowd. Things could have been managed better.”
Referring to a popular saying, he added, “Whatever happens is according to Lord Ram’s will, so why argue over it?”
