AFG VS NED ICC ODI World Cup 2023: While it was a small target to chase, the Afghan innings faltered slightly at the beginning. The team lost their first two wickets quickly and it looked like Netherlands might pull something off.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadram were back in the pavillion by the end of teh 11th over. Afghanistan needed something strong from that moment to stabilize the innings and guide them towards the victory.
That is when Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi came in. Both of them put up a 74-runs partnership which was enough for them to see the finish line. Both of these batsmen scored brilliant half centuries.
Rahmat Shah To The Rescue
The innings were faltering down and that is when Rahmat Shah was like a wall in front of the Holland bowlers. Him alongside the skipper did not let any bowler pass and completed their half centuries.
Rahmat was playing agressively and departed after making 52 runs in just 54 deliveries. His innings included 8 boundaries. On the other hand, Shahidi was playing steadily and remained not out on 56 runs in 64 deliveries.
Azmatullah Omarzai came after Rahmat and started scoring runs fast. He remained not out on 31 runs in just 28 deliveries. His innings included 3 boundaries and he made sure the team finish quickly for a slight better run rate.
Knockout In Sights
With this victory, Afghanistan is in fifth position now with the same points as New Zealand and Australia. The best thing is that the Afghan players have the opportunity to decide their fate themselves.
Their next two fixtures are tough as they will face Australia and South Africa. But if they can defeat the Aussies they will take their place in the points table. Considering how well they have played, they can easily do so and qualify for the knockouts of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
