Duleep Trophy 2023: It has finally happened and all the questions might have been answered now. In a thrilling contest, South Zone defeated West Zone in Duleep Trophy final on the back of Hanuma Vihari and Vidhwath Kaverappa.
On one hand where West Zone was filled with stars like Cheteshwar Pujara, Sarfaraz Khan, Priyank Panchal, Suryakumar Yadav, and Prithvi Shaw. It was underrated stars like Hanuma Vihari, Tilak Verma, Washington Sundar, Mayank Agarwal, and Vidhwath Kaverappa who shone the brightest.
Vihari and Kaverappa Storm
In the first inning where wickets were falling at a constant rate, Hanuma Vihar stood his ground. In a true captain’s knock, he scored 63 runs in 130 deliveries. This allowed the South Zone to reach a respectable total in the first inning.
And then Vidwath Kavrappa bowled like a man possessed and took 7 wickets in the first inning. He completely annihilated West Zone in the first inning as they were only able to make 146 runs.
Second Inning Excitement
South Zone showed a better-combined batting performance in the second inning and scored 230 runs. Giving South Zone a massive target of 298 to chase on the last day. Hanuma Vihari once again scored 42 runs on a tough pitch.
Priyank Panchal played like a lone soldier while chasing and made 95 runs in 211 deliveries. Sarfaraz Khan was the only one that build a decent partnership with the captain but he was bowled out on 48 runs.
West Zone got all out on 222 runs on the final day. The result was in favor of South Zone who won the match by 75 runs.
