Graeme Smith: South African players felt secure in IPL Bio-Bubble

Graeme Smith, director of South Africa cricket, says that players of his country felt safe in the bio-bubble created for the IPL of the Cricket Board of India. Graeme Smith said that he had talked to the South African players and they all felt safe. The IPL was held in India amidst growing cases of corona virus, but recently the tournament was postponed earlier this week after corona cases were reported in some teams.

“Sometimes you can do whatever you want but the BSE – as we’ve said to everyone – is never foolproof. When COVID is raging in your country there’s always a risk. Unfortunately, once it gets inside it’s very difficult to predict what’s going to happen, “he said.

“You see some of those players sitting there at the IPL and not making any noise. Having had an experience of things here you do see some things differently, and (you see) a version of double standards. It’s disappointing,” the former South Africa men’s captain said.

“I think CSA has put on 15 or 16 BSEs this season, and I don’t think enough has been made of the success that we’ve had,” Smith said.

Smith praised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for helping the players to be sending back to their homes after the tournament was postponed. Smith said, “The way the BCCI has done its part to send everyone home is very good. It has been good for our players because our borders were not closed.”

Graeme Smith played 117 Tests and 197 ODIs for South Africa. The left-handed batsman scored 9265 runs in Test cricket, he scored 6989 runs in the ODI format.
