Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli: Former Captain Virat Kohli has attained significant milestones in his international cricket career. The esteemed Indian player recently marked his 15th anniversary in the top echelons of the sport. However, he is also known for his disputes with other cricketers, remarkably one of them is with Sourav Ganguly when the latter was at the charge of BCCI. Despite the issues between the two, it seems like times have changed as Ganguly recently gave a shutting reply to Shoaib Akhtar when the Pakistani bowler commented on Virat’s retirement.

Shoaib Akhtar speaks on Virat Kohli’s retirement

Varied viewpoints surround Kohli and his current performance. Former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar offered an unexpected piece of advice to Kohli. During a recent interview, the Rawalpindi Express suggested that Kohli should consider retiring from One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup in 2023, while continuing to participate in Test cricket.

Shoaib said, “I don’t think he should play more 50-overs matches after this World Cup. Also, if you see him in T20s, it takes a lot out of him. I think he should play for at least six more years and break the 100 hundreds record of Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli has it in him to break the record. He should focus on Test cricket after this World Cup, and break this record.”

In the meantime, the former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has responded to this comments. Ganguly was present at an event in Kolkata when he was asked about Shoaib Akhtar’s recommendation. Replying to the question, Sourav said, “Why? Virat Kohli should play whatever cricket he wants to play. Because he performs.”

Kohli stands among the senior Indian players who have refrained from participating in India’s T20I contests, given that 2023 is a year marked for the ODI World Cup. Similar to Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, Kohli’s most recent outing in a 20-over game took place during the T20 World Cup in Australia. It’s worth noting that Kohli emerged as the highest run-scorer in the tournament, amassing an impressive 296 runs from a mere six innings.
