ICC ODI World Cup 2023: Pakistan is definitely the most weird cricket team in history. There is always something happening at the helm of their squad or the management. It is a team where something is always happening.
They went into the Asia Cup 2023 as the strongest team in the competition. They came out of the continental tournament with lots of questions and worries. Worries that will haunt them for a while now.
They are worried about their Fakhar Zaman being out of form, Shadab Khan being out of form and now they must be worried about playing the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 without Naseem Shah.
Pakistan just revealed the latest 15-men squad for the World Cup and the name Naseem Shah was missing from it. There were other changes but none of them will hurt more than Naseem’s absence.
Naseem Shah On Lenghty Layoff
Pakistan will be without the fearsome pace trio of Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Shaheen Shah Afridi. This is because Naseem Shah suffered a major blow during the Asia Cup 2023 and will be out for a long period of time.
Hasan Ali has been brought in to replace Naseem Shah while Usama Mir has also been roped in as an extra leg spinner. Mohammad Wasim will be the third pacer of the squad. It is surprising that Usama Mir was selected for the World Cup as he was not in the Asia Cup squad. Mohammad Haris is in reserves while Faheem Ashraf misses out on the squad.
Unfortunate For The ICC ODI World Cup 2023
Inzamam Ul Haq stated during the squad announcement that “Naseem was injured, he was our main bowler and it was unfortunate. Hasnain has an ankle injury and is out injured and so is Ihsanullah.”
“If you see how Hasan Ali performed in the LPL, he has performed better than most. He is an experienced bowler who has played big mega events for Pakistan and performed well in them. And when Naseem was ruled out, we needed someone who could bowl with the new ball. He bowls well with both old and new ball and is a team man. His presence lends energy to the team.”
