IND vs NZ: Kiwis steal their first win of the tour ! Beat Men in Blue by 21 runs in Ranchi | Details here

IND vs NZ: After losing the ODI series to the hosts by a humiliating 3-0 margin, Kiwis have bounced back. In the first T20I against India today in Ranchi, New Zealand won by the margin of 21 runs. The Men in Blue won the toss and elected to bowl first, but they fell short from what they would have expected. New Zealand managed to reach 176 runs with loss of six wickets in their inning. Arshdeep Singh gave away 27 runs in the last over which resulted in a substantial total for them.

Kiwis pull off a remarkable victory

New Zealand’s bowlers were on top form, with Mitchell Santner, Duffy and Bracewell trembling India’s top order. At one point of time, India were 15-3 after the top order failed to fire. Skipper Hardik Pandya, who scored 21 off 20 balls, teamed up with Suryakumar Yadav (47 off 34) for creating a major partnership. However, both later got dismissed in the gap of four balls and India lost the track once again.

Washington Sundar scored valiant 50 runs from 28 balls, giving India hope to win the match, but wickets constantly fell from the other end. Ultimately, Kiwis won the match by 21 runs. For New Zealand, Bracewell, Santner, and Ferguson picked two wickets each. Fiery fifties from Conway (52 off 35) and Mitchell (59 off 30) resulted in the total.

This win gives India a 1-0 lead in the 5-match T20I series. The next match will be played on 29th January at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. Also, senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been rested for the T20I series. KL Rahul is out from the squad due to his marriage. Meanwhile, all the players are set to return for the Border-Gavaskar trophy, commencing from February 9.
