India Pakistan Cricket: “Tournaments keep coming” Foreign Minister S Jaishankar clears doubt on ties

India Pakistan Cricket: S. Jaishankar, India’s minister of external affairs, has sent a clear message to cross-border terrorism by denying any cricketing relations between India and Pakistan. Recently, the BCCI announced that India would not be visiting Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup. All of this caused the BCCI and PCB to have a major argument.

What did EAM Jaishankar say on India Pakistan Cricket?

EAM S Jaishankar in an event said, “Tournaments keep coming and you are aware of the government’s stand. Let’s see what happens. It is a complicated issue. Will you talk to me if I put a gun on your head? If your neighbour aids terrorism out in the open and there is no mystery about who the leaders are, where the camps are. We should never think that cross-border terrorism is normal. Give me another example where one neighbour is sponsoring terrorism against another. There is no such example. In a way, this is not even abnormal, but exceptional.”

Ramiz Raja, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), had stated that Pakistan may think about boycotting the Asia Cup 2023 if their hosting rights are revoked as a result of the Indian team’s refusal to visit them.

Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023 in doubts

The Asia Cup would be conducted at a neutral location, according to BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who had earlier in October utterly refuted rumours that Team India would travel there for the competition. Since way back in 2012, these two teams haven’t played a bilateral series.

Continuing further, S Jaishankar said “You know our stand on cricket. We should never accept that a country has the right to sponsor terror. Unless we don’t delegitimize this, it will continue. So, there should be global pressure on Pakistan. The pressure won’t come unless the victims of terror don’t voice themselves. India should, in a way, lead the way because our blood is spilled.”

Ramiz Raja also threatened to cancel Pakistan’s visit to India to compete in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 if India decided to withdraw from the Asia Cup.

The BCCI and the Indian government are on the same page, as is evident from all of these remarks. Consequently, it is quite doubtful that they will send the Indian cricket team to Pakistan to compete in the Asia Cup in 2023.
