Narendra Shah: Dehradun police have pressed charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Narendra Shah, a former office bearer of the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand and coach of international cricketer Sneh Rana. This action follows the emergence of an audio clip in which the accused can be heard engaging in an obscene conversation with a girl cricketer.
Narendra Shah tried committing suicide
Following the widespread circulation of the audio clip, it has been reported that Narendra Shah attempted to take his own life at his residence in Nehru Colony on Friday. He is currently receiving medical treatment at the Doon Medical College and Hospital in Dehradun.
On Saturday, Shah was removed from his position as co-convenor of women’s cricket in the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand. Nevertheless, he remains in the role of secretary for the Chamoli district cricket association. As per reports, the young female cricketer is believed to be a minor hailing from the Chamoli district. She is currently undergoing both academic education as she is in Class 10th and doing cricket training in Dehradun.
CAU’ stand on Narendra Shah
Vijay Pratap Malla, spokesperson, the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand spokesperson stated, “Taking cognisance of the media reports about the viral audio clip, the apex body of the state’s cricket association on Saturday convened a virtual meeting and decided to remove Narendra Shah from the post of co-convenor of the women’s cricket.”
Continuing further he stated, “Shah also holds the post of secretary of Chamoli district cricket association. We have taken action at our level and removed him from the CAU post. His removal from the post of Chamoli district association is to be decided at their level. We are yet to receive any complaint from the girl cricketer or her family against Shah. If we receive any such complaint, further action will be taken against him after an inquiry.”
