Sunil Gavaskar: Veteran cricketer names THIS player to be next captain; Says that a few players will now retire

Sunil Gavaskar: The veteran Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar made a dramatic prediction after Team India was eliminated from the 2022 T20 World Cup. The former captain of India thinks Hardik Pandya would lead the Indian T20I team in the future. A small number of players may also retire from T20Is, according to the ICC Hall of Famer.

Gavaskar stated in an interview that Pandya has previously won an IPL season to support his claim. The Gujarat Titans won the IPL 2022 championship in Pandya’s first season as coach.

Sunil Gavaskar’s bold prediction

“Having won the Indian Premier League on his first assignment as the captain, they would have marked Hardik Pandya out as the next captain. Hardik Pandya will definitely take over the team in the future and there will be some retirements, you never know. Players will be giving it a lot of thought. There are several players in their mid-30s who will be reconsidering their position in the Indian T20I team,” Gavaskar said.

Hardik was included in the leadership group as a result of his IPL performance, and he supported Rishabh Pant in the home series against South Africa. In the end, he beat Rishabh to the role of backup vice-captain after leading Team India on their tour of Ireland.

Hardik Pandya to lead in the New Zealand tour

The T20I team against New Zealand will be captained by Pandya, with Rishabh being his deputy. The wicketkeeper-batsman will be vice captain in ODIs as well. Shikhar Dhawan will lead in one-day international matches. Pandya will not play in the ODI series against Bangladesh and New Zealand.

A few T20I cricket players may decide to retire. A few seniors who were benched for the New Zealand T20Is may be replaced, according to the selection committee’s hints. Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli have taken a break before the New Zealand tour.

England and Pakistan will square off in the T20 World Cup final. The game will take place at Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 13.
