World Cup 2023: BCCI Vice-President Replies To Punjab Sports Minister; Gives THIS Reason For Mohali Omission

World Cup 2023: The controversies behind the upcoming World Cup 2023 tournament are not simmering. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla came out and answered the criticism by the Punjab Sports Minister about politics being involved in the omission of Mohali.

After the schedule for the tournament was announced, Punjab Sports Minister recorded a video of himself stating that Mohali was given any matches in the World Cup due to politics. He further stated that he would put his problems in front of BCCI.

Amidst the allegations, Shukla came out and gave clarification as to why Mohali was excluded. BCCI Vice President also stated how there are more venues than ever in this World Cup.

Mohali Not Ready For World Cup 2023

The Vice President came forward and stated that politics had nothing to do with the commission. He stated that the current level of Mohali does not meet the standards set by the ICC. And ICC’s consent is extremely important in finalizing the venues.

Shukla further stated that Mohali got Virat Kohli’s 100th match. And the Mullanpur Stadium is still getting ready in Mohali. It would have gotten matches in the tournament if it were ready before the World Cup.

He also stated that every stadium had been considerably chosen, and they have tried adding as many venues as possible. Shukla further stated that grounds like Lucknow and Guwahati never got the chance to host a World Cup match before, and now they are doing it.

Mohali hosted the 2nd semi-final of the World Cup 2011 between India and Pakistan. And according to BCCI Vice President, it would have got matches again if the stadium was ready.

Will Get Other Matches

BCCI Vice President further stated that Mohali does not meet the standards set by ICC, but that does not mean they won’t get any matches. They will be given bilateral series in the future. This gives the Sports Authorities a reason to fast-track the work on Mohali Stadium.

With T20 World Cup 2026, Mohali can be given a chance. Considering the stadium is completed before the tournament.
