Delhi Pollution: Air Quality Remains ‘Severe,’ Ministers proposed artificial rain may help amid air emergency

The Delhi government imposed a ban on out-of-state app-based cabs following Supreme Court remarks, allowing only Delhi-registered cabs to operate within the city

Delhi Pollution: The air quality in Delhi continued to stay at the ‘severe’ category on Thursday morning, with an overall air quality index (AQI) of 421 at 6 am, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). South and West Delhi were the most polluted areas.

Artificial Rain to tackle Delhi Pollution:

Gopal Rai, the environment minister of Delhi, met with an IIT Kanpur team on Wednesday to discuss the possible use of cloud seeding to create artificial rain in order to lower the city’s air quality index (AQI). Following the discussion, the minister announced that in the event of overcast weather on November 20–21, artificial rain might be utilised in Delhi.

AQI in across city:

Multiple air monitoring stations across the city recorded AQI levels above 400, including Anand Vihar, R K Puram, IGI Airport, Moti Bagh, Dwarka, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Punjabi Bagh, Ashok Vihar, Patparganj, Okhla, India Gate, and ITO.

Ban on out-of-state app-based cabs amid Delhi pollution:

The Delhi government imposed a ban on out-of-state app-based cabs following Supreme Court remarks, allowing only Delhi-registered cabs to operate within the city.

In the National Capital Region (NCR), Greater Noida had the highest pollution level with an AQI of 455, followed by Faridabad, Gurugram, Noida, and Ghaziabad.

Air quality in Mumbai:

In contrast, Mumbai enjoyed ‘good’ air quality with an overall AQI of 33. Areas like Chembur, which had an AQI of 300 in recent days, saw an improvement with an AQI of 98, while Worli recorded an AQI of 59. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is set to chair a meeting to assess the pollution situation in the state at 11.45 am today.
