Haryana News: The state government of Haryana is presently exploring a possible partnership with Glydways and Suzuki Motor Corporation to position itself at the centrestage of the country’s next-gen urban mobility leap. The state is presently evaluating the concept of driverless pod taxi systems across key cities of the northern India state to redefine how urban India travels.

The proposal was discussed during a high-level meeting that was spearheaded by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at Sant Kabir Kutir in Chandigarh.

Haryana News-What’s Special?

The proposal signals the state’s relentless commitment to facilitate smooth and seamless transition from conventional infrastructure expansion to tech-led, future-ready transport systems.

Interestingly, the Glydways transit system is a seamless network of autonomous, compact pods that could operate on dedicated gateways to offer non-stop and on-demand travel. Unlike traditional bus or metro systems, the Glydways transit system’s model assures reduced wait times, point-to-point connectivity and lower infrastructure costs, all of which makes it highly suited for rapidly urbanizing corridors of the state and India.

Evaluation Process

Critical aspects of the pod taxi services such as route identification, execution timelines, feasibility and Public-private-partnership (PPP) based investment structures were reviewed by senior officials including Urban Local Bodies Commissioner & Secretary Ashok Kumar Meena and Chief Principal Secretary to CM Rajesh Khullar. The presence of Glydways leadership – Chris Riley, Dave Manu and Alberto Fernandez Lopez – and Suzuki’s Kento Ogura further underlined the engagement’s seriousness.

The technology behind Glydways transit system is designed to optimize traffic flow, cut travel time and minimize carbon emissions and footprint. All these benefits collectively would make it a viable and environment-friendly alternative to both high-cost mass transit systems and private vehicles.

If executed, the project could reshape intra-city travel across Faridabad, Panchkula, Ambala, Chandigarh, Gurugram and other emerging urban hubs of the state.
