Weather Update January 17 2026: The India Meteorological Department has predicted bone-chilling cold for Northern states and rain for Southern states.

Western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, eastern Rajasthan and Punjab may notice moderate rainfall. Chamoli and Uttarkashi are likely to receive moderate rainfall. Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar are likely to witness bone-chilling cold waves, especially during the early morning and late evening/night hours.

Weather Update January 17 2026-Delhi NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan

Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Sonipat, Panipat and Karnal may face extreme weather conditions. Dense and thick fog is likely to be witnessed in Hoshiarpur, Patiala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur and Kaithal may notice unprecedented, bone-chilling cold waves.

Yamuna Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and Delhi-Meerut Expressway commuters are advised to observe a sense of care and diligence.

Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Delhi, Meerut, Bijnor, Hastinapur, Saharanpur and Panipat may experience cold that would be tough to beat even with heavy blankets.

Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand

Isolated regions in Western Himalayan Region Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit Baltistan-Muzaffarabad along with several parts of the Northern India states are likely to receive fresh bounty of snowfall.

West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha

The states of West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha are likely to witness thick and dense fog.

Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam

Moderate to heavy dense fog is likely to be noticed in the states of states of Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

Southern States, Puducherry and Daman & Diu

Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Mahe and South Interior Karnataka may receive moderate to heavy rainfall. Puducherry, Karaikal and Tamil Nadu may witness thunderstorms and moderate rains; Yanam and Rayalaseema may witness slight to moderate rainfall.
