First Beneficiary of PM Surya Ghar Scheme in Poonch

The PM Surya Ghar Scheme recently launched in Poonch, and Satpal Sharma from Power House Mohalla, Ward No. 8, became the first beneficiary. By installing a 3-kilowatt rooftop solar panel system, Sharma has ensured uninterrupted electricity for his household.

The solar panel, costing Rs 1.68 lakh, was heavily subsidized under the scheme, with Sharma receiving a subsidy of Rs 94,000. Elated with the change, he said, “I am the first person to install this solar induction under the Prime Minister’s scheme. Earlier, we faced frequent power cuts, but this is no longer an issue. I encourage all residents of Poonch to benefit from the PM Surya Ghar Scheme.”

Addressing Long-Standing Power Challenges

For years, power disruptions have disrupted daily life in Poonch, especially affecting children’s education and essential activities. Speaking about the relief brought by the PM Surya Ghar Scheme, Satpal’s relative, Nishchal Sharma, said, “In Poonch, electricity was a major problem. Power cuts disrupted children’s studies, motors stopped working, and inverters often failed. Now, thanks to this initiative, solar panels of 1kW, 2kW, and 3kW are being installed with a 25-year warranty. It’s a life-changing step.”

This scheme has brought hope to many families living near the border, improving their quality of life by providing a reliable and sustainable electricity supply.

PM Surya Ghar Scheme - A Bold Vision for Renewable Energy

Launched on February 15, 2024, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the PM Surya Ghar Scheme is the world’s largest domestic rooftop solar initiative. Aiming to provide solar-powered electricity to one crore households by March 2027, the scheme envisions a future where reliable energy is accessible to all.

Residents in Poonch are embracing this transformative step, with many expressing gratitude. “We live near the border and are thankful that PM Modi thought about us. This scheme has solved our electricity problems and changed our lives,” said another local resident.
