CM Bhagwant Mann: The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is likely to skip the eighth governing council meeting of NITI Aayog due to the ongoing hostilities between the government at the centre and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Mann stated in a note that he will not attend the meeting because the federal government has not been protecting Punjab’s interests.

On May 27, the eighth Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog will be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The centre hasn’t been looking out for Punjab’s interests, so attending this meeting is pointless until the problems are resolved. If the recommendations presented during this meeting are not carried out, there will still be food available, said CM Mann in a message. At the NITI Aayog meeting in August of last year, Chief Minister Mann spoke and brought up concerns about RDF, stubble, and farmers.

NITI Aayog’s Eighth Governing Council Meeting to Focus on Key Development Topics and Collaborative Policy Ideas
All chief ministers, lieutenant governors of Union Territories, and a number of Union ministers are represented on the council, which is the top body of NITI Aayog. NITI Aayog’s chairman is Modi. Eight important topics, including Viksit Bharat@2047, the thrust on MSMEs, infrastructure and investments, minimising compliances, women’s empowerment, health and nutrition, skill development, and Gati Shakti for area development and social infrastructure, will be covered during the day-long meeting, according to an NITI Aayog official release. Select Secretaries from the Government of India and Chief Secretaries from all States/UTs participated actively in the 2nd Chief Secretaries Conference, which was attended by the Prime Minister. They shared theme best practises and policy ideas. An official announcement noted that India, the fifth-largest economy in the world and the most populous country, is at a point in its economic development trajectory where it can experience increased growth over the next 25 years.
