Bhagwant Mann: Punjab Police marked Day 519 of the Bhagwant Mann government’s “Yudh Nashian Virudh” (War Against Drugs) campaign with the arrest of 85 alleged drug smugglers, as the Anti-Narcotics Task Force and district police units carried out coordinated raids across multiple locations in the state.
Heroin and Cash Seized in Raids
The operation led to a substantial recovery of narcotics and cash from the accused. Officials confirmed that police teams seized 5 kilograms of heroin, 4.5 kilograms of poppy husk, and 443 intoxicant pills, along with ₹12,320 in suspected drug money, during the coordinated action.
Focus on Rehabilitation Alongside Enforcement
Alongside the enforcement drive, Punjab Police said 12 individuals struggling with substance abuse were counselled and persuaded to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment, underscoring the campaign’s dual approach of strict legal action paired with support for recovery and reintegration.
Part of a Sustained, Long-Running Campaign
The latest action adds to what has become one of the Punjab government’s longest-running enforcement drives. Officials say the campaign combines intelligence-based raids, public awareness efforts in schools and communities, and expanded de-addiction infrastructure to tackle both the supply and demand sides of the state’s drug problem.

Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to sustaining the campaign with equal focus on dismantling trafficking networks and supporting those seeking to overcome addiction, while appealing to citizens to share information on drug-related activity to aid ongoing operations.
With the campaign now well past its 500-day mark, authorities say raids and rehabilitation outreach will continue on a daily basis, as the state government works to make good on its pledge to build a drug-free Punjab.
