Punjab Police: In a major success for law enforcement, Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in close coordination with Batala Police, Central Agencies, and Nagaland Police, has arrested two key accused in a high-profile murder case. The accused, identified as Harmanpreet Singh alias Harman and his cousin Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi of Batala, were nabbed from Kohima, Nagaland, after weeks of technical surveillance and intelligence sharing between multiple agencies.

The duo was wanted in connection with the brutal killing of Jugraj Singh alias Jugga on September 9, 2025, at Village Cheema Khudi in Batala. After obtaining transit remand from a competent court in Nagaland, the Punjab Police is bringing the accused back to the state for further investigation.

According to preliminary findings, the target killing was not a standalone act but part of a larger conspiracy hatched at the behest of foreign-based gangsters. Instructions for the execution reportedly came from Jaswinder Singh alias Manu Agwan, currently operating from abroad, along with associates Mohammad Yasin Akhtar alias Jeeshan Akhtar and Gopi Nawanseharia. These individuals have been under the scanner for orchestrating a series of targeted killings in Punjab through local modules.

DGP highlighted that the successful operation reflects the state police’s increasing reliance on inter-state coordination

The Punjab DGP highlighted that the successful operation reflects the state police’s increasing reliance on inter-state coordination, intelligence-driven operations, and technological tracking to dismantle organized crime. “@PunjabPoliceInd remains resolute in its mission to root out gangsterism and ensure peace and communal harmony across Punjab,” the statement read.

The Anti-Gangster Task Force, set up by the Punjab government in 2022, has been instrumental in neutralizing several high-profile gang networks and arresting dozens of operatives involved in extortion, smuggling, and contract killings. The arrest of Harman and Gopi marks yet another achievement in the ongoing crackdown against foreign-backed criminal syndicates that continue to exploit local youth for violent activities.

Police officials added that further interrogations may reveal deeper links with international handlers and cross-border networks. More arrests are likely as the probe expands.
