Confirmed and Suspected Deaths

A PTI report states that three deaths from rain-related incidents have been confirmed, and three more deaths are suspected. According to the IMD, isolated areas of Puducherry, Karaikal, and northern Tamil Nadu were expected to see light to moderate rainfall. Due to the recent intense rainfall, many residential colonies were covered in sheets of water, and roads, bridges, and paddy fields were all submerged. Following lake breaches and flooding, several road links were severed.

Power Outage Due to Rain

Rain caused the electricity supply to be cut off beforehand. Normalcy was severely disrupted as public transport was completely affected and mobile phone connectivity was lost in several areas. Due to severe flooding in the area, 500 passengers on the Tiruchendur-Chennai Egmore Chendur Express were left stranded at the Srivaikuntam railway station. There were eight hundred people on board the train on Monday night when it became stuck at Srivaikuntam station, officials said. Although 300 of them were saved and relocated to a government school nearby, a submerged rail bridge prevented the evacuation of the other 500 people.
