A major fire broke out once again at the Maha Kumbh 2025 site, causing significant damage to several tents. The incident occurred in Sector 22, located between Jhusi's Chatnag Ghat and Nageshwar Ghat, in Prayagraj. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as people managed to evacuate quickly, preventing a greater tragedy.
Fire Causes Chaos in Maha Kumbh 2025
A sudden fire broke out in the Maha Kumbh 2025 area, catching many off guard as it engulfed several tents. The blaze started in an unauthorised tent in the Chatnag Ghat Police Station area, located near the bustling Kumbh site. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and quick action by both devotees and firefighters prevented a larger disaster.
Pramod Sharma, an official from the UP Fire Department, spoke to ANI, confirming the fire occurred in 15 tents. He added, “We got information about the fire today and took immediate action to bring it under control. The SDM confirmed it was an unauthorized tent, and the situation is now under control.”
Previous Fire Incident at Maha Kumbh 2025
This is not the first fire to hit the Maha Kumbh 2025. A similar incident occurred earlier on January 19, when a fire broke out in the Geeta Press tents. That fire was far more intense, leading to a gas cylinder explosion and thick smoke engulfing the site. The explosion caused panic among the devotees. The authorities have since implemented additional safety measures, but the recurrence of another fire raises concerns about fire safety at such large gatherings.
Maha Kumbh 2025: Challenges Continue Amid Tragedy
While the Maha Kumbh 2025 continues to witness large crowds and intense spiritual fervor, safety concerns are on the rise. Along with the recent fire incidents, a tragic stampede occurred during Mauni Amavasya, leading to the death of 30 devotees and injuries to several others. The overcrowding at Sangam Nose is believed to be the cause of the stampede.
The government has announced financial aid of ₹25 lakh for the families of the victims, while the administration works to ensure better safety measures moving forward.
