Tourism, Trade and Logistics Set to Soar as CM Yogi Adityanath Expands UP’s Mega Airport Network, Check

Uttar Pradesh is adding new terminals and airports across Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Aligarh and more. Here is how this aviation push can lift tourism, trade and jobs for common people.

CM Yogi Adityanath: Not long ago, catching a flight in Uttar Pradesh meant a long drive to a handful of airports. That picture is changing. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state is building new airports and enlarging existing ones, with the stated goal of boosting tourism, trade and logistics. Here is what is happening and why it matters.

From Two Working Airports to 16

Before 2017, only two airports in UP were fully operational and two were partly working, according to the Chief Minister. Speaking in the Assembly in December 2025, he said 16 airports are now functional, four of them international. For India’s most populous state, that is a big leap in air access.

Jewar Airport Takes Off

The headline project is Noida International Airport at Jewar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it on 28 March 2026, and its first scheduled passenger flight, an IndiGo service, arrived on 15 June. The first phase can handle about 12 million passengers a year. It is also expected to ease the load on Delhi’s busy airport. Officials say international operations are expected by the end of 2026.

New Terminals Across the State

In June 2026, the state’s Civil Aviation Department outlined work in six cities: CM Yogi Adityanath, Agra, Kanpur, Aligarh, Moradabad and Shravasti. A few highlights:

  • Gorakhpur: A June 2025 agreement covers the transfer of 42.14 acres of Indian Air Force land, and construction by the Airports Authority of India has reached about 60 per cent progress.
  • Kanpur: The new terminal is already inaugurated, and about 100 more acres are under consideration for expansion.
  • Aligarh: The state has decided on a major expansion, and technical work on the land is underway.

How Airports Help Tourism, Trade and Logistics

  • Tourism: Easier flights to places like Agra, Gorakhpur and Shravasti can bring more visitors and keep them longer. That helps hotels, guides and local shops.
  • Trade: Businesses get quicker access to customers and suppliers. Investors also look at air links before choosing where to set up.
  • Logistics: Airports close to expressways make it simpler to move time-sensitive goods, from medicines to electronics.
  • Jobs: Airlines, terminals, cargo and hospitality all create local employment.

What to Watch Next

CM Yogi Adityanath: Buildings alone do not guarantee results. Regular flights, fair ticket prices and good road and rail links will decide how much these airports help ordinary people. Keeping them well staffed and maintained will matter just as much.
