But it will never become… pic.twitter.com/shD8ZeLXlD
Following the viral video and Farkade complaint, Superintendent of Police Nischal Jharia promptly took action. "Sub-Inspector Sunil Sareyam has been suspended and a probe by a gazetted officer initiated, he confirmed. Further disciplinary measures will be determined based on the investigation's findings.".
Farkade, a tea and snack stall owner at the Multai bus stand, alleged he was arrested on the night of September 18. According to Farkade, the police accused him of trading narcotics; however, he denied these allegations. It has been again highlighted that despite his repeated claims of being innocent, he was physically tortured by the police. People have condemned this incident, and demands accountability and reforming measures within the local police.
The video caused extreme outrage after a Twitter post by NCM India Council for Men Affairs. Questions regarding the conduct of police and their handling with the citizens while in custody have been questions over this incident. Oversight and accountability are more than needed for law enforcement concerns so that these violations of human rights can be dealt with quickly and justly. Of course, as the investigation unfolds, many will be waiting for the outcomes that could lead to some huge changes in the handling of similar cases in the future.
