Zirakpur Bypass: In a major step towards easing traffic congestion in the Punjab-Haryana region, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by PM Modi, has approved the construction of a 6-lane Zirakpur bypass. The total outlay for the project stands at ₹1,878 crore, and it will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM). The 19.2 km long stretch will begin at the junction with NH-7 (Zirakpur-Patiala) and end at the junction with NH-5 (Zirakpur-Parwanoo).
The new bypass is set to transform connectivity and ease travel in the region, especially for those heading towards Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Patiala.

The Zirakpur bypass is a crucial piece in the larger plan of developing an integrated transport system under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. It is strategically designed to reduce congestion in the densely populated towns of Zirakpur and Panchkula. The bypass will help vehicles avoid urban traffic snarls, ensuring smoother and faster movement.
This project also supports the Punjab Government Master Plan, aiming to streamline transport and reduce travel delays for long-distance commuters.
Where Does the Zirakpur Bypass Start and End?
The 19.2 km long bypass will begin at the Zirakpur-Patiala (NH-7) junction and conclude at the Zirakpur-Parwanoo (NH-5) junction in Panchkula, Haryana. This will allow vehicles coming from Patiala, Mohali Aerocity, or heading to Himachal Pradesh, to bypass the congested internal roads of Zirakpur.
