Apple iPhone: Tech giant looking to shift 50% of its smartphone production in India by 2027 | Details here

Apple iPhone: By 2027, Apple is expected to relocate 50% of the manufacture of the iPhone to India, a significant departure from its present Chinese suppliers, according to reports. The IT giant has been attempting to reduce its reliance on its Chinese contract manufacturers, citing declining demand.

After China, India is presently the second-largest production hub for Apple worldwide. Apple has stated that it aims to relocate 25% of the world’s iPhone production to India by 2025, according to JP Morgan analysts, who were cited in an another source.

Apple looking to begin more production in India

According to renowned Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities, “The iPhone 14’s mass production schedule in India is still about six weeks behind China, but the gap has improved significantly. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that India and China will be able to produce the iPhone 15 at the same time next year.”

In light of the current geopolitical scenario and uncertainties, according to a report by the news agency Bloomberg earlier this week, Apple will increase its production capacity outside of China. Southeast Asia is a part of Foxconn Technology Group and Pegatron Corp.’s development ambitions for this year, two of Apple’s largest contract manufacturers and partners.

Young Liu, Chairperson of Foxconn’s flagship unit Hon Hai Precision Industry Co was quoted saying, “We will continue to grow our scale in mainland China, the Americas and Southeast Asia, and these efforts will blossom in 2023.”

Problems in China plant

Recall that the tight Covid-19 regulations in China caused workers’ agitation, which recently stopped the production of iPhones at Foxconn’s factory in Zhengzhou, Apple’s largest contract manufacturer. 6 million iPhone Pro models may have been lost by Apple as a result of the interruption at Foxconn’s largest iPhone manufacturing facility, according to reports.

Last year, demand for the most popular phones—the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max—was higher than that for the standard iPhone 14 models, which helped to offset declining sales.
