Four Wheelers to soon have an inbuilt collision warning signal? All we know

A moving off information system (MOIS) is a device that alerts the driver when there are cyclists and pedestrians in the area and can also alert them to possible collisions if the manufacturer determines it is essential.

Collision warning signal: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has suggested that some four-wheeler passenger and commercial vehicles be equipped with an integrated “moving off information system” (MOIS) to lessen the likelihood of a collision with nearby cyclists and pedestrians.

What is a MOIS?

MoRTH, in a draft titled ‘Approval of motor vehicles with regard to the Moving Off Information System for the Detection of Pedestrians and Cyclists, has established the MOIS standard for the automobile sector and will be informed following a public consultation.

The term “Moving Off Information System” (MOIS) refers to a system that may identify and alert drivers to the presence of cyclists and pedestrians in the immediate area. If the manufacturer determines that it is essential, the system can also alert drivers to the possibility of an impending collision.

According to the report, “Since collisions with these characteristics still occur and advanced driver assistance systems have been introduced in a lot of vehicle segments, it is obvious to use such assistance systems for avoiding accidents between subject vehicles and VRUs.”
