Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written yet another letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this time urging the government to prioritise the needs of farmers and the middle class over the rich. Kejriwal has called for a stop to waiving off loans of wealthy individuals and instead suggested focusing on farmers' loans and home loans for the middle class.
Loan Waivers for Farmers and Middle Class
In his letter, Kejriwal highlighted that if the loans of the rich are not waived, tax rates could be reduced by half. He stressed that the middle class, which already bears a heavy tax burden, would benefit significantly from such a move. He noted how individuals earning around ₹12 lakh annually end up paying a major share of their income in taxes, which is a growing concern.

Kejriwal emphasised that loan waivers should focus on those who genuinely need financial relief, such as farmers and middle-class families struggling with home loans.
Arvind Kejriwal's Recent Proposals to PM Modi
This is the third letter Kejriwal has addressed to PM Modi within the past two weeks. On January 19, he proposed a joint housing scheme for government employees, particularly sanitation workers in the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). He highlighted the housing challenges faced by these workers, especially after retirement.
Earlier, on January 17, Arvind Kejriwal had suggested a 50% discount for students traveling by Delhi Metro. In the letter, he pointed out that the Delhi Metro is a joint venture of the Central and Delhi governments, and both should share the financial responsibility to ease the burden on students.
Timing Amidst Delhi Assembly Elections
Arvind Kejriwal's latest appeal to PM Modi comes just weeks ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5. The political landscape in Delhi is witnessing a fierce triangular contest among the AAP, BJP, and Congress, with all parties making ambitious promises to win voter support.
While Congress has promised subsidised LPG cylinders, free ration kits, and electricity, the AAP has pledged free healthcare for senior citizens, financial aid for temple priests and granthis and expanded welfare schemes. The BJP, too, has made commitments such as free electricity, bus rides and monthly financial aid for women.
As the election date approaches, Kejriwal's letters to PM Modi reflect his focus on addressing pressing issues for the middle class and farmers.
