To her surprise, the bike captain replied that if all bike captains are called bhaiya then whose wedding will they attend as a groom. The bike captain asked the girl not to call him a brother.
Interestingly, the word bhaiya or big brother is usually used for vendors, drivers, low income earners and uncles like. It is a respectful word but many may get offended on hearing it.
This clip exploded on Instagram Reels and X (formerly Twitter), racking up millions of views. Why? It’s peak desi humor -relatable, cheeky and a sly commentary on shifting gender dynamics in gig work. Rapido riders aren’t just chauffeurs but “Captains,” a term the app itself promotes to boost morale and professionalism.
In recent years, ride-hailing apps like Rapido, Ola, and Uber have empowered millions of young men from small towns, turning bikes into breadwinners.
Social Media Reactions
A user commented, “Bhaiya is like friend-zoned forever.” Another user commented, “The bike captain doesn’t want to get boxed into eternal siblinghood as that means you ignoring their swagger and single status.” Another commented, “Next time you book a Rapido, skip the bhaiya and say Captain.”
