Pakistan economic crisis: Amid the ongoing inflation crisis in Pakistan, the government officials have been asked to donate 50 per cent of their salary to Turkey-Syria relief fund. According to the local media reports, Grade 19 to 21 officers in Balochistan have protested against the salary cut. These officers have cited that they are already having a hard time in feeding their families as the prices of essential commodities shot up by 33 per cent.

Officers forced to take pay cut

Amid the ongoing inflation crisis in Pakistan, Grade 19 to 21 officers are facing another wrath from the government. The officers also inquired if officers in other provinces have also been asked to cut off their salaries or is just Balochistan government taking forceful action.Ā

They are also planning to approach the federal government and suggest that they could donate one or two daysā€™ salaries instead of steep 50 per cent pay cut.Ā

Army unable to feed soldiers

Recently, it was reported that the rising inflation has affected the Pakistani Army with soldiers not being provided proper meals. A top government source had said, ā€œWe have already cut the soldiersā€™ food fund, which was doubled and approved by General Raheel Sharif during the Operation Zarb-e-Azb in 2014.ā€Ā  It said that the increase in price of groceries and meat have made the Army cut in logistics and supplies.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday admitted that there will be more inflation. Citing the reason for inflation, the Pak PM said that IMF has reduced some subsidies, and asked to facilitate the poor only.

ā€œTime is calling for us to adopt restraint, simplicity and sacrifice,ā€ he said while addressing the meeting.

He stressed that ā€œeveryone including the ministers, advisers and bureaucrats will have to be part of the austerity campaign,ā€ adding that the government ā€œhas tried its best to fulfil its dutyā€.
