The investigation is being led by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) under the US Department of Labor. Officials say the probe focuses on alleged misuse of H-1B and PERM visa programmes, including fraudulent applications, labour trafficking, coercive wage kickback schemes, and practices that may disadvantage American workers. The authorities have reportedly begun issuing multiple subpoenas as part of what they describe as one of the most aggressive enforcement efforts targeting foreign worker visa abuse.

As reported by The Times of India, the Inspector General for the US Department of Labor, Anthony D’Esposito, has revealed that whistleblower claims revealed that companies such as “Cognizant” were involved in information under scrutiny from the investigators.He pointed out that every credible tip received during the course of the investigation is being investigated.
