Jaishankar Raises LAC Issue With Chinese Foreign Minister Qin

India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and China’s Foreign Minister Qin Gang held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Conference (SCO) in Goa. In this, India-China LAC and border issues were discussed. In fact, this is the second bilateral meeting between the two leaders in the last two months.

The Chinese Foreign Minister had come to India in March to attend the G-20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting. During this, S Jaishankar had told Qin Gang that the situation of India-China relations is ‘abnormal’ due to the long-standing border dispute in eastern Ladakh. In June 2020, after a fierce clash in the Galvan Valley, relations between India and China became very tense.

India-China LAC and border issues discussed

India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar tweeted, “Had a detailed discussion on our bilateral relations with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang. Our focus is on resolving the remaining issues and ensuring peace in the border areas. Along with this, we also discussed SCO, G20 and BRICS.”

Earlier, S Jaishankar had a meeting with General Secretary Zhang Ming. In this regard, he tweeted, “My meeting began with a fruitful conversation with Secretary General Zhang Ming at SCO CFM.”

Earlier information had come that China’s Foreign Minister would participate in this meeting in a virtual way, but on Tuesday (May 2) China’s Foreign Ministry had said that Qin Gang would visit India. This meeting was considered important regarding the ongoing tension between the two countries regarding the border dispute. At the same time, Foreign Ministers of all SCO members India, China, Pakistan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan are physically participating in this meeting.
