Kremlin says President Putin met Wagner chief Prigozhin after suspended mutiny, details

President Putin: The Russian government has stated that President Vladimir Putin met with leader of Russian Militia Wagner Yevegeny Prigozhin and few other members of the group after the short-lived Mutiny. The Kremlin has forwarded the claim that the meeting took place on 29th June, 5 days after the Wagner rebelled against the Russian authorities.

After a peace deal was made, Wagner’s leader and troops were supposed to make their way to Belarus. Wagner troops had surrendered their weapons to Russian authorities and many among the ranks had made their way to Belarus including leader Yevegeny Prigozhin. Recently, Lukashenko stated that Prigozhin is not in Belarus anymore.

The Meeting

The meeting took place on June 29th and went for more than 3 hours. “The president gave his assessment of the events of June 24,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in reference to mutiny. He also said that President Putin heard claims made by Wagner Commanders and also gave them options for other employment including military ones.

Dmitry Peskov further added “The commanders themselves presented their version of what happened. They underscored that they are staunch supporters and soldiers of the head of state and the commander-in-chief, and also said that they are ready to continue to fight for their homeland.”

The Mutiny

On June 24 Wagner leader Yevegeny Prigozhin proclaimed ‘march of justice’ against top brass of the Russian military leadership. The militia took control of military base in Rostov on don and marched towards Moscow. The group made its way to the capital while the government fortified city for a prospective battle. The march was halted 200 kms outside of Moscow when a truce was brokered by Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Prior to this the Russian military and Wagner group fought alongside in Ukraine. The initial strides made by Russia at the start of War are hugely credited to work done by Wagner.
