Pak PM proceeds with umbrella, leaves women officer stranded in rain; internet fumes

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif landed in Paris on Thursday to attend New Global Financing Pact Summit in France. In a viral video shared by Pakistan Prime Minister’s Office, Shahbaz Sharif says something to a woman officer and leaves after taking umbrella from her. The woman officer is left drenched in rain as PM Sharif proceeds to walk well ahead of her. The video has sparked controversy over the internet and earned PM Sharif significant backlash over his actions.

The incident

After PM Shareef leaves the car after disembarking from the airplane, a protocol officer is seen standing outside with an umbrella. As they proceed forward, PM Sharif says something to her and then takes umbrella away from her. After snatching the umbrella PM Sharif starts to walk ahead of her leaving the woman officer stranded in the rain. Many users called the incident as an ’embarrassment’ as Sharif’s shameful behavior reflects badly on his nation. Shahbaz Shareef is otherwise known for his general modesty.

New Global Financing Pact 

Pakistan PM arrived in France for the two day New Global Financing Pact Summit in Paris. The summit scheduled to be hosted by President Emmanuel Macron of France is hosting 300 high level participants of Heads of States, representatives frim International Organizations and private sector, as well members of the civil society. The event aims to lay groundwork for reconfiguration of international financial system which is better suited to the common challenges of 21st century. The arenas of climate change, global poverty and erosion of biodiversity are primary focus of this summit.
